So where are all the middle class parents buying their drugs these days?

Best friend of twenty years had a 'cheeky joint' last night. Sister in law regularly takes coke in social situations. Other sister in law is still a raver and takes MDMA on the reg.

Am I living under a rock or something? Where does one procure such things? I'm genuinely curious. And sheltered, obvs.

God knows how it works but I used to work with someone who was very open about his smoking weed. He told me once that you can buy it on the regular internet, not the dark web as I'd kind of assumed up to then, and that it's so organised he even gets a receipt! Shock

mugcupwhatever · 11/09/2021 22:11

Pre dc we used to get it from a dodgy neighbour 🤷‍♀️ There's always one around, especially if you're in London.

Flipping heck! Was he middle class?
WhoIsPepeSilva · 11/09/2021 23:33

Was your response sarcasm or something? @Plumtree391 I honestly can't tell.

My point was more that drug dealers give people receipts these days which I find somewhat amusing because it seems so bizarre to get a receipt for something illegal. Also that drugs can apparently be procured relatively easily via the internet these days, when I was a teenager people bought weed from a dodgy guy out of his house or off the street.

I'm not entirely sure where class actually fits in or has relevance in my post. I know the OP mentioned the middle class specifically but quite frankly I wouldn't know how to categorise the people I know into their respective "class" coz I'm pretty unsure of my own to start with. Ask some and I'd be middle class, others lower middle class and to others I'd be considered working class.

AcrossthePond55 · 11/09/2021 23:37

@Bobsyer

If you're serious, if you're at a large gathering scope out the crowd then just work the subject of 'legalizing weed' into a conversation and IF the people seem non-judgmental mention that you are curious about trying it 'someday'. 😉

Ugzbugz · 11/09/2021 23:39

Really not interesting, coke dealer from over 20 years ago still going.

Everyone knows someone who can get it easy without knowing.

@Ugzbugz seems like they may have a reliable supply of something or other.
eeek88 · 11/09/2021 23:47

Go to their house on way home from work, drink herbal tea, listen to them chat shit about whatever conspiracy theory they’re into, leave with drugs?

faithfulbird20 · 11/09/2021 23:47

Eww how disgusting. How can you bear to be around them?

Branleuse · 11/09/2021 23:51

Im sure they just ask people they know.

@HappyVagabond why is eating cheap meat worse than using drugs ? [asking for a friend]

They probably mean imported meat which doesn't have the same animal welfare standards as in the UK. It is cheaper, as are factory farmed chickens and battery farmed eggs - which of course I would not knowingly buy but I might share a joint. However at my age I'm not around dope smokers so don't get the opportunity Wink.

Plumtree391 · 12/09/2021 00:10

My poor attempt at humour, WhoIsPepeSilva, mainly because this thread started off about middle class people happily doing drugs. Like yourself, I don't really get that. From my experience, admittedly years ago, people from all strata of society 'did' drugs if they wanted to, class didn't enter into it.

Coke is expensive so you'd have to be well off to use it regularly but it's not about class, it's about how much disposable income you have; you could be a lawyer or a taxi driver. That is a seriously dodgy drug though, the damage it can cause to the delicate linings of the nostrils is dreadful.

Heartofglass12345 · 12/09/2021 00:11

None of my friends take drugs and probably wouldn't even know where to get them from and we are very much working class. I just don't get it! Why would you? Do they think it makes them cool or something?

Coke doesn't smell as far as I know, not like weed.

Fair enough @Plumtree397 Grin My experience has been the same, drugs seem to pervade all walks of life.

From my interesting conversation with the work colleague ages ago, it sounds like weed is really expensive these days too.

It's all changed from when I had a few joints as an older teenager. Back then it seemed to be all solid brown stuff sold cheaply and often with plastic running through it Envy

WhoIsPepeSilva · 12/09/2021 00:39

Oops sorry @Plumtree391 got your username wrong!

Slippy78 · 12/09/2021 01:18

but from what work guy said it goes for more than double the price of
what we could get our hands on as wild 19-20 year olds
Cigarettes have increased 5x in the same timeframe...

OhWhyNot · 12/09/2021 01:32

Ask the people you know that use drugs

Go to the pub and the guy that has so many friends come over and greet him briefly but don’t hang around

AmelieLovesAutumn · 12/09/2021 08:32
@NeverDropYourMooncup weed was immensely helpful to my mother as she was dying of cancer, it absolutely did help with her pain and, importantly, with her appetite. She used a vaporiser (which heated it up enough to release the thc but not enough to make harsh smoke) and sometimes edibles. She was, luckily, in a place where it was legal. It also helps my friend with MS - it relaxes her and helps with muscle spasticity. You have absolutely no idea what you're on about and would do well to shut up and listen to people who do.
Weed was always more expensive than solid brown.
It is probably as cheap today especially when the Irish punt changed to euro.
A £100 pound became €130 euro, eventually the price dropped to €100.
It is available everywhere.

Macncheeseballs · 12/09/2021 08:36

I'm not a big fan of weed in general (for myself), but look forward to it being legalised

AngelDelight28 · 12/09/2021 10:11

@Theluggage15 Yep, I had some housemates years ago who were stereotypical middle class arty hipster types...they went on and on about being vegan and lectured me when I bought bottled water, because of the plastic waste etc. Yet happy to get off their faces on coke most weekends. They had no answer when I pointed out the damage the drug trade does all around the world.

If the OP is "square" then I am too. I've smoked weed as a student but wouldn't touch drugs now and wouldn't have a clue where to get any. Most of my local friends are parents, I guess you'd call them middle class, and as far as I know none of them take drugs.
Is this an English thing? I'm in Scotland, there are lots of young people taking drugs and plenty of drug addicts on dodgy estates, some of them parents...but they're not exactly middle class.

Ozanj · 12/09/2021 10:41

According to my best friend there is a group of local pharmacy students who make cocaine & pay local people (usually foreign students) minimum wage to deliver it. They charge huge amounts for both the quality and the way it is distributed. I can believe local pharmacy students make it, but I don’t believe the people delivering aren’t being exploited.
