So where are all the middle class parents buying their drugs these days?

Best friend of twenty years had a 'cheeky joint' last night. Sister in law regularly takes coke in social situations. Other sister in law is still a raver and takes MDMA on the reg.

Am I living under a rock or something? Where does one procure such things? I'm genuinely curious. And sheltered, obvs.

Within my circle (or’´‘square’?) mostly 40+ Middle class I’ve noticed much less drug use as we’ve got older, those who do use do so privately at home. A few who used cocaine a lot have given it up completely. One still has a ‘drugs and sex’ mobile (every now and then I use that no by mistake and he’s all flummoxed Grin initially). Two 70+ who use cannabis regularly (edibles) for cancer and multiple sclerosis related pain and report nothing else comes close to helping as much. They get it from local supplier through friends and we all just wish it could be legalised as medicinal use (let alone recreational).
I don’t use illegal drugs but could very easily get hold of anything. Used to live close to local dealer and now know local pub where contacts could easily be made.

Plumtree391 · 12/09/2021 11:13

AngelDelight: I'm in Scotland, there are lots of young people taking drugs and plenty of drug addicts on dodgy estates, some of them parents...but they're not exactly middle class.
........
It's the same here, Angel, and always has been. People either do or they don't but the doings stretch across all classes.

Many have dabbled in their youth but don't now (I did a bit, not much or for long), there are plenty who have never touched an illegal drug and never would.

If things like weed were legal, it would be much better all round and in some ways, far less attractive.

Macncheeseballs · 12/09/2021 11:13

I think drug taking is fairly spread across the classes

SW1amp · 12/09/2021 11:51

@Ozanj

According to my best friend there is a group of local pharmacy students who make cocaine & pay local people (usually foreign students) minimum wage to deliver it. They charge huge amounts for both the quality and the way it is distributed. I can believe local pharmacy students make it, but I don’t believe the people delivering aren’t being exploited.
It’s highly unlikely it is cocaine they are making

It can’t be grown here, and arrives in the UK ready processed
At best, they are cutting it, which just means diluting it down with other white powders, which anyone could do
It doesn’t need any scientific knowledge or skill

If they are pharmaceutically-minded, they are possibly making something else, like MDMA or one of the formerly-legal highs which are lab-made, if they have access to a lab
(As per the story line of breaking bad)

Local ice cream van

It doesn't work. You'll spin out long before anything stops hurting - if you're lucky, you'll get to a point just before a whitey where you feel that you don't really care quite so much about the chronic pain - so about half an hour or so.If you're smoking it, it's really harsh (and smoking is really bad for anybody), bongs will make you feel like your lungs are about to explode and if you vape it, you will end up feeling OK, fine, fine, fine, fi- oooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh (puke, fall over, sweating like a pig). And if you have baking goods, you're stuck with it in your system and there's no way of stopping until it's all out if you feel uncomfortable. It's far more effective to look at the type of chronic pain issues and look for something that doesn't include stinking of skunk (clue's in the name, by the way)

If you're talking specifically about skunk, you might be right, but why on earth would you use skunk? Some nice mild pure grown weed would do the job nicely...excellent pain relief, easy to smoke or eat, no puking or sweating.

BrendaBubbles · 12/09/2021 12:00

Why not just ask for a prescription?

Good luck. They’ll be suggesting CBT, aromatherapy and herbal remedies first. You can’t outright ask for specific drugs as they’ll put you down as “drug seeking.” And then if you say you’ll just buy them online then, you’ll be down as an addict.

jay55 · 12/09/2021 12:18

There is a dealer who sits outside sainsburys where I live. Supplies cool young things and middle class parents alike, he's not fussy, or at all discrete.

Sometimes you can witness the police arresting his friends who drop off merchandise in the bushes near the tube station.

If it's anything like my town, they'll have their dealer on speed dial and call for deliveries. 3 deliveries last night, and all had some form of drama, including the one at 4am. Deliveries always seem to be between 1am and 3am usually. And noisy.

Based on friends perspectives, usually the internet is a no go, because you never know who is ment to be selling product, especially depending on the country various laws ect, in general, it's a friend of a friend ect, or someone will know someone ect and usually that's how the product gets around or at least how the consumers know how to locate a supply of a particular product they want.

Any south Londoners who remember the Green Leaf cafe..?
It was a cafe near Brixton which was a barely disguised front for selling weed

OhWhyNot · 12/09/2021 12:53

I agree cannabis should be legalised - hash, grass etc. There will still be issues around cannabis but it will be more controlled and money for taxes

But the selling of skunk will never be legalised it’s far too damaging to many many people

The problem is many young people are smoking skunk they are not interested in a soft gentle high. The uptake of other hard drugs has lowered as skunk has become more popular

Journeyofthedragons · 12/09/2021 12:57

@Heartofglass12345

None of my friends take drugs and probably wouldn't even know where to get them from and we are very much working class. I just don't get it! Why would you? Do they think it makes them cool or something?
Because drugs are good fun until they're not good fun anymore at which point most people stop taking them.

How many years we talking? I don't remember Green Leaf but Montego Bay on Brixton Water lane provided a similar service Grin
BatonRouge · 12/09/2021 13:05

@Journeyofthedragons Indeed, until the just novelty wears off and perhaps moral questioning about the supply chain comes into balance too?

OhWhyNot · 12/09/2021 13:56

I think for most of us we just get older, we have more responsibilities and struggle more with the after effects of using drugs. I also have a different lifestyle

I wouldn’t want ds to see me off my face but I would still like to take e or coke at times

I can lament about the morals around taking drugs but after a glass or two of wine it’s on offer I can bet that simply won’t enter my head or the majority of others who have enjoyed taking drugs what I and I think most would consider more is can I now handle this

I'm sure people stop for many reasons but to be honest I would say that supply chain issues are very low on the list.

Shamsa03 · 12/09/2021 14:04

How sad that OP thinks their is something wrong with her because she doesn't know where to buy drugs. Still shaking my head in amazement.

HowToMurderYourLife · 12/09/2021 14:05

I buy my LSD analogues online on the clearnet from the Netherlands where the analogues are legal. It is made in a legal lab and very well respected as to quality and dosage. I pay with Bitcoin and gets posted over. I could get street LSD through contacts but I would have the hassle of testing it and then I couldn’t be sure about the dosage on the tab as well as the ethical considerations. I microdose so accuracy is important. Microdosing really helps my ADHD without the side effects/abuse potential from the prescription medications on offer. It gives my brain just the right little kick it needs.

A lot of people grow their own mushrooms. It’s legal to buy the spores in the UK (for research of course) but illegal to cultivate them.

Not just south Londoners, we knew of it in North London! Had to sit around for a cup of tea before getting what we needed. @BatonRouge it was about 99/2001 in my time.
Tulips15 · 12/09/2021 14:38

OP,
I'm the biggest square going!
Ive never smoked, never tried drugs, I am so unaware of drugs It'a laughable.
I've grown up and still live in, the very sheltered town Im from...!
BUT drugs are rife here-DP works in hospitality and has no idea how Ive been oblivious all these years🤦‍♀️🤣

SW1amp · 12/09/2021 14:44

@DeegeeDee
It was around 2003 for me, but looks like the owner was caught and sent to jail in 2004…
news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/3583349.stm

I started working in the City not long after that, and there were loads of stories of bars and cafes where you could ask for a £50 beer or an extra salty pizza, and it would be served with a wrap of coke attached, but I didn’t ever test it
There was also apparently a taxi office in Muswell hill next to the station where you could ask for the £50 limo and they would give you coke
According to the friend who told me about it, the police knew about it and turned a blind eye because it was an old timer dealer who didn’t cause any trouble, so they didn’t want to bust him and have him replaced by lots of minor but violent small time dealers who would cause bigger problems

It was between Clapham North and Brixton, and I would guess late 90s to early noughties (looks like the owner was nailed in 2004)

It looked like a Caribbean restaurant from the front - I remember it had orange shutters, but it’s a miracle I remember anything at all from the trips I took to it..!
Local minicab drivers knew it - you just asked them to take you to the green leaf and they would ask if you needed them to wait

You had to be introduced by someone they knew, you couldn’t just turn up and say ‘some of your finest drugs please!’ But it was a fairly efficient system from what I remember
