So where are all the middle class parents buying their drugs these days?

Best friend of twenty years had a 'cheeky joint' last night. Sister in law regularly takes coke in social situations. Other sister in law is still a raver and takes MDMA on the reg.

Am I living under a rock or something? Where does one procure such things? I'm genuinely curious. And sheltered, obvs.

From friends or friends of friends.

Plumtree391 · 11/09/2021 15:26

@AdriannaP

On the internet. Install a tor browser and there are amazon type pages with reviews for dealers.
Show me, I've never seen them. You can't even buy Co-Codamol on Amazon!
Plumtree391 · 11/09/2021 15:30

Sorry, Adrianna, I see you suggested installing a Tor browser and that there are 'Amazon type' pages, not Amazon. It all sounds too complicated for me.

User4378645 · 11/09/2021 15:30

Isn't it friends of friends like it always was.

VestaTilley · 11/09/2021 15:34

I’ve no idea where you’d buy them, or why any allegedly responsible parent would wish to.

My friends and I (35, m/c professionals) do not take drugs.

ApplesAreTheBaneOfMyLife · 11/09/2021 15:35

I wouldn’t have a clue. It’s so outside my sphere of reference.

Threads like this are an eye-opener into another world for me!

Eeve · 11/09/2021 15:36

People saying snap chat - how on snap chat? Surely you'd have to know the person to have their details??

NiceGerbil · 11/09/2021 15:42

Round here the old school way, local dealers.

I did have a poke around using tor/ onion because I was interested to see what all about. Looked for drugs as that's what everyone says is all over the place. Found some marketplaces that were incomprehensible. No drugs. I wasn't going to get from random internet just nosy!

I've heard Snapchat etc but no idea about that. Plenty easy to get stuff from bog standard young men in traditional manner. Numbers circulated friends of friends etc.

HemanOrSheRa · 11/09/2021 15:43

They'll be getting their coke from the same dealers who use teenagers to run their crack and heroin lines. So these people don't feel bad about a 14 year year old turning up on their mountain bike with the delivery the older dealer will to it themselves.

butterpuffed · 11/09/2021 15:44

There's a shortage on the Tesco shelves recently. I think it must be to do with the falling numbers of lorry drivers.

That's brilliant! Never ask for "Coke", say "Pepsi".

(From the film, 'Yesterday', which is excellent escapism._

LowlandLucky · 11/09/2021 16:06

Seemingly you can now buy "organic coke" at a premium price, surely nobody would be gullible ?

OrangeBananaFish · 11/09/2021 16:06

I'm another who wouldn't have a clue where to start. No-one I know does drugs as far as I'm aware.

Its like a whole other world to me. Like the darkweb. How is that different to the normal internet? Is it not just webpages that are a bit darker than I would normally look at. I've only really heard of it in relation to terrorism or drugs etc.

Wroxie · 11/09/2021 16:14

@NeverDropYourMooncup weed was immensely helpful to my mother as she was dying of cancer, it absolutely did help with her pain and, importantly, with her appetite. She used a vaporiser (which heated it up enough to release the thc but not enough to make harsh smoke) and sometimes edibles. She was, luckily, in a place where it was legal. It also helps my friend with MS - it relaxes her and helps with muscle spasticity. You have absolutely no idea what you're on about and would do well to shut up and listen to people who do.

iloveeverykindofcat · 11/09/2021 16:19

@MorrisZapp

My work colleague buys weed online and leaves reviews like bloody trip advisor.

I'd personally like to buy zopiclone or valiums but I have no idea how. The local news tells us that the streets are awash with the stuff, well I wish I knew which streets and how to go about getting it.

Until a few years ago people bought valium and zopliclone online, quite legally, from 'private pharmacies'. You could basically fill in a form and get an online prescription from outside the EU sent to a UK pharmacy, who then filled it, with no contact with your health records. That legal loophole was closed a while ago though.
Wroxie · 11/09/2021 16:21

I don't use coke (I'm more of an MDMA once a year and mushrooms on a camping trip sort of girl) but it always cracks me up to see people moralise about the drug supply chain while wearing clothes bought at Zara which were probably made by children, and/or while sitting comfortably in a house full of electronics made by imprisoned Uyghurs.

The dark web is a subset of the deep web. The deep web is everything that is not indexed by search engines (actually the vast majority of the internet. What you access through search engines is the tip of a very large iceberg). So in order to reach a deep web site, you have to know the address and often use a specific browser like Tor. Most things on the deep web are not illegal, but most illegal things happen on the deep web. The criminal sections are colloquially known as the dark web, and this is where the really bad stuff happens, like human trafficking, arms deals, arranging hits, and so on. There is no formal definition of the dark web though.

It's from people who grow their own in a big greenhouse.
TatianaBis · 11/09/2021 16:26

@MurielSpriggs

Darknet marketplaces are popular for drugs (using TOR). You can also buy them through Telegram, which is a bit like Whatsapp, but encrypted, anonymous, and has a market of its own.

It's quite complicated requiring various types of high-level encryption software, subterfuge and cryptocurrencies.

Telegram is not E2E encrypted. It’s only encrypted for private messaging if you select that option.

WhatsApp is E2E encrypted but their cloud backups fall outside that. So it is claimed Apple can access chat if it’s backed up to iCloud and Google can access chat if it’s backed up to Google drive. Whatsapp. could potentially restore your chat on a fresh device. You can disable cloud backups and ensure 2FA is set up (anti hijacking) to prevent your chat being installed elsewhere.

Signal is the one that is E2E encrypted.

That’s Apple dark mode😂 I have no idea where proper dark web is though
Burnamer · 11/09/2021 16:27

@Wauden
Just why?! I think it’s safe to assume that everyone who is reading mumsnet and also possibly a recreational drug users is old enough to know the risks and we all know what county lines are.
This isn’t a discussion where people are asking to be educated about the risks. We already know them.
Maybe find a different forum for the preaching (aka very odd copy and paste posting)

mathanxiety · 11/09/2021 16:28

Marijuana is legal where I live. The stink is something else.

...it always cracks me up to see people moralise about the drug supply chain while wearing clothes bought at Zara which were probably made by children, and/or while sitting comfortably in a house full of electronics made by imprisoned Uyghurs.
There is no Chinese clothing or electronics or any other items of dubious origin in your house then?

You don't have to save the world in every single choice you make. Just avoid the entirely avoidable infliction of human suffering by not buying substances which you 100% know to be supplied by criminal enterprises.

Same place as in the old days + the internet! People here claiming all wide eyed and innocent know nothing about any drugs - I hope you're not parents! [fake shock face] Grin I think it helps a to know just a little about whats happening around you and your kids. Drugs are like rats in the U.K never ten foot away, or something like that. Grin

I referred a friend's mum here

she is in her 60s and had done her back in. They are treating her and she thinks its wonderful

You don't think I've used it myself?

The stuff you get over here these days isn't the same as medical grade cannabis dispensed legally. A 'curious to try illegal, unregulated versions from a dealer' is a good way to have a whitey. And it definitely did not help me even though I knew when to put a spliff down - somebody keeping on going or blithely using a vaporiser because it doesn't feel like you're doing anything until it hits you like a truck and hasn't actually stopped the chronic pain in any case by that point is almost guaranteed to spin out.

I'm glad it gave your mother some relief, but the OP isn't suffering from the same illness as her and topping up on something like Oramorph.

You would equally do well to listen to other people who have actually used it themselves and think it would be a really shit idea to have a go at it under completely different circumstances.
