AIBU to think iPhones are really disappointing?

My whole adult life I thought iPhones were a luxury extravagance and I made do with mostly Samsungs especially as I was partying in London in my twenties and half my thirties with high risk of having it stolen on a night bus or lost when drunk etc.
Treated myself finally at age 39 to an iPhone 11 and I am bloody disappointed! There is no in built beauty mode so I look like sh** in all my photos, it takes 3 bloody hours to charge fully (and It didn’t even come with a plug so I had to buy a charger to even charge it - and now I learn there is another charger I can shell out £50 to charge it faster!), it constantly tells me my iCloud storage is full and I can’t turn off the notifications, loads of things seem really clunky. Worst smart phone I have ever had.
AIBU?
YABU - iPhones are the holy grail of smart phones
YANBU - you shoulda stuck with Samsung, you disloyal fool!

I really don't like them either. Other phones have done more development to be more user friendly while iPhone seems to just live off its name.
I have one for work and I hate it using it. Much prefer a Samsung or Huawei.

EnglishGirlApproximately · 10/09/2021 09:43

I went back to Samsung after a few years of IPhones and have no regrets, much prefer Android. When my ipad finally dies I'll probably go for an Android tablet too. Its the constant updates that drive me mad

seaandsandcastles · 10/09/2021 09:44

YABU. iPhones are the best on the market.

SylvanasWindrunner · 10/09/2021 09:47

Personal preference really. I tried a Samsung a few years ago and hated it. Apps crashed all the time and I just found it really unintuitive so I went back to iPhone. It's funny you mention the beauty filter - DH and I creased ourselves with the one on the Samsung as it made us look like we had been embalmed! I've still got a really creepy pic of him with no pores.

But it's really just what you like/are used to. DH likes his Huawei, but it has got really slow and isn't that old.

I agree completely with this. They are not at all intuitive. Other brands certainly seem to concentrate on improving the features and making their phones work for the user so people buy them whereas Iphones definitely seem to default to the fact people will buy them simply because it's an IPhone.

I think if most people blindly tested phones not knowing which was an iPhone they would soon see they are being shortchanged in comparison to what other brands offer.

Beauty mode had me 🙂
Personal preference I’d say

FiveGs · 10/09/2021 09:55

I have an iPhone for work and a Samsung for personal use. Much much prefer the Samsung/Android systems, I find iPhones harder work than they need to be.

YANBU!

TakeYourFinalPosition · 10/09/2021 10:07

It’s personal preference, completely. They’re no more “luxury” than Samsung or Google or whatever.

If you love them, they’re worth the cost. If you prefer other things, they’re not.

If you liked Samsung specific features like beauty mode, you should have stuck with that, especially if the OS worked for you.

Are you within the returns period?

Caspianberg · 10/09/2021 10:13

I think you just have the settings wrong or something.

Charge - mine charges in about 30mins
Notifications- you can turn these off
Photos - seem great
Storage full - what with? Are you using iCloud back up?

Coldilox · 10/09/2021 10:16

Try the portrait mode for photos.

I love my iPhone. My work phone is a Samsung and I hate it.

Personal preference I guess.

Not sure why it’s taking three hours to charge though. Mine takes about half an hour max.

kaleidoscopeheartless · 10/09/2021 10:18

I prefer my iPhone to other phones.

Peanutsandchilli · 10/09/2021 10:23

My husband works in IT and will tell you to avoid all Apple products, not just because of their functionality but because of what goes on in the background that you can't see.

He knows his stuff and that tells me all I need to know.

TinnedPotatoesRock · 10/09/2021 10:27

Just all depends what you're used to, I've always had Samsung, I like the operating system, it's intuitive, I like the styling and they just feel better to me. I have an iPhone as a work phone and I don't like it at all, just feels clunky, keyboard is too small for messaging and it constantly crashes. I'm sticking with my Samsung

Aposterhasnoname · 10/09/2021 10:30

Beauty mode Grin

There’s a portrait mode if that’s what you mean, that has flattering light and doesn’t make you look like you’re 14 years old using dog ear filters and doing a duck face.

CounsellorTroi · 10/09/2021 10:31

I’ve got a Google Pixel and I love it. Never been into iphones though I do have an iPad.

alloalloallo · 10/09/2021 10:31

Depends what you’re used to I guess

I’ve had iPhones for years, plus iPads and I prefer them

I have a Samsung for work - I hate it, can’t get along with it and find it clunky and really awkward to use.

BasicDad · 10/09/2021 10:41

I have an iPhone ONLY for the integration with Apple Watch, which I love.

As a device it's got some really nice software features that other non Apple devices don't (or at least don't work as well). Also, Apple are top notch at managing privacy.

Historically iphone has been such a locked off system that struggles to integrate with anything non apple, which is not the case any more. So for advanced users, they've been great for the last 2 years.

My only issue with it, is the keyboard and auto correct are utterly shocking compared to Android keyboards. It seriously hampers the experience.

JaneJeffer · 10/09/2021 10:43

I don't get what people mean by intuitive? I much prefer iPhone to Samsung. It's way easier to use.

HarrietsChariot · 10/09/2021 10:45

It's all down to personal preference. In my view iPhones only do about 90% of what Android phones can do, but the 90% they do do they do better.

My iPhone feels like a premium product (bloody well should for the price) whereas all the Androids I've ever had felt cheap as shit (even though they weren't).

Androids are more flexible but they go obsolete so quickly. Buy an iPhone and you can be sure it'll still be getting updates in four years. Buy an Android and you'll need a new one next year.

NotReallyAPrincess · 10/09/2021 10:46

I am biased as I’ve always had iProducts and don’t find Android as intuitive, but “beauty mode” is creasing me. Now I know why my Samsung-using friends look like they’ve been filed and polished!

RobinPenguins · 10/09/2021 10:46

I have a Samsung for work and I absolutely hate it. Nothing is intuitive. It really irritates me. No idea if the camera is better than my iPhone though.

billyt · 10/09/2021 10:53

I've had person iPhone for years and Sony work phones.

I have an MacBook and iPad so very happy with the Apple interfaces. , When they renewed the company phone scontract last year I asked if I could have an iPhone instead an dit wasn't a problem.

I found the Sony phones so unfriendly.

TurdCrapley · 10/09/2021 10:59

It is personal preference but some of your issues will be solved by learning to use it properly. Mine charges in 30 mins, I have all notifications off unless I want them and portrait mode is great for good selfies! You just need to play around with it. Do you back up to the cloud? How much storage do you have?

I've had androids and iPhones on and off for years, I go through stages of loving and hating both but I've realised iPhones are what I prefer mostly so I'm never going back to android.

discombobulatedonion · 10/09/2021 12:31

I prefer iPhones because they’re much more simple for me to use compared to Android. But generally, yes, Android is better. I probably wouldn’t change back to Android though.

LeafOfTruth · 10/09/2021 12:33

I think it's just what you're used to.

I had a Samsung a couple of years ago after having iPhones - I found that clunky, unintuitive and a pita. I was glad to switch back.

I'm not right and you're not wrong - it's just what we're used to.
