AIBU to think iPhones are really disappointing?

My whole adult life I thought iPhones were a luxury extravagance and I made do with mostly Samsungs especially as I was partying in London in my twenties and half my thirties with high risk of having it stolen on a night bus or lost when drunk etc.
Treated myself finally at age 39 to an iPhone 11 and I am bloody disappointed! There is no in built beauty mode so I look like sh** in all my photos, it takes 3 bloody hours to charge fully (and It didn’t even come with a plug so I had to buy a charger to even charge it - and now I learn there is another charger I can shell out £50 to charge it faster!), it constantly tells me my iCloud storage is full and I can’t turn off the notifications, loads of things seem really clunky. Worst smart phone I have ever had.
AIBU?
YABU - iPhones are the holy grail of smart phones
YANBU - you shoulda stuck with Samsung, you disloyal fool!

Yep! iPhones are shite. Bought my kid one for secondary school. Lasted less than a year and is now using an Alcatel for £50. It's got a better battery life, more storage and charges quicker.

Overpriced and overrated I'd say.

WildBluebell · 12/09/2021 22:34

Time to get used to how you naturally look Grin

I love iPhones.

HalzTangz · 12/09/2021 22:51

iPhones are a load of overpriced crap, I don't get why people still buy them

BlaiseAnais · 12/09/2021 22:51

Until 3 years ago I'd only cycled between Android phones (LG, Sony, Samsung) and once a Blackberry. Then I got an iPhone which I initially liked. Its is shiny and feels solid. I liked it so much I ordered the same model for work. But after about 18months both phones started to have significant reductions in performance. On contract renewal I got the latest Samsung for my personal phone and latest iPhone for work. Looking at them objectively the Samsung gives me better specifications, I don't have to create an iCloud account, it is easier to customise and the phone has a much nicer screen. But it does feel plasticy compared to the metal chassis of my iPhone.

@Angrymum22

Queen bee it’s an auto filtering setting on the camera. So all those friends who seem to look fabulous in selfies, it’s all smoke and mirrors. Unless they have an iPhone.

wow ... that can't be healthy ..

thank you.. Ive literally never heard of it .. 🌸

minionese · 13/09/2021 03:28

@mafted

Bingo for the highly knowledgeable, IT expert DH, who won't use Apple products for mysterious reasons which are so complicated he couldn't possibly offer the slightest hint of an explanation to his wifeHmm
Hahaha I thought that
BunnytheFriendlyDragon · 13/09/2021 04:26

I like my iPhone but I expect theyre v similar to many other phones

What I dubs annoying is when I need a new phone I am reluctant to spend to buy a new phone that is almost identical to the last

minionese · 13/09/2021 07:58

It's always android owners that say how awful iPhones are. iPhone owners seem not to care about which phone people have.

icedcoffees · 13/09/2021 08:07

It's 100% down to personal preference. Performance wise they're all pretty much the same nowadays.

Personally I can't stand android phones and really struggle to use them whereas I find iPhones (and Apple in general) much more intuitive and easy to use.

They are by far and away the most secure ecosystem. I do a lot of travelling and like to bank while I travel. There is no way I’d do that with an Android phone - especially with the new fraud typologies emerging. All the spoofing attacks you see get mentioned, all the time fraudsters trick people into thinking they’re calling from a company? They ALL happen on Android phones.
Buttons294749 · 13/09/2021 08:12

I prefer Samsungs. I hated my iPhone but I don't really like my iPad either so Apple just isn't really for me

SuperstoreFan · 13/09/2021 08:21

I've used iPhones and Android devices, right now I'm using the S21 Ultra but I happily bounce between the two eco-systems.

They both have their pros and cons, iPhones are expensive for what you get but they are very secure, my S21 is fantastic but I've had friends and family buy cheaper Android devices expecting them to perform the same as high end devices which isn't the case.

Well you'd hardly expect someone who has paid silly money for an iPhone to slag it off.

Although the OP has.

Stircraazy · 13/09/2021 08:39

I have an iphone - it's great for what I need it for - audiobooks, podcasts, radio, emails, watsapp, occasional photos - but I don't even use an icloud, just delete stuff when I get a warning - How on earth have you filled it. I also haven't needed the beauty mode (WHat?????) being married for 40 years and planning to stay that way.

DoormatBob · 13/09/2021 08:49

@Peanutsandchilli

My husband works in IT and will tell you to avoid all Apple products, not just because of their functionality but because of what goes on in the background that you can't see.

He knows his stuff and that tells me all I need to know.

There's always guys like this. Is he into all conspiracy theories? The alternative is controlled by Google!

I don't like the iPhone setup but use one at work as previously mentioned. We use these at work because they are MoD accredited devices!

DiamondLily4 · 13/09/2021 08:55

Love mine, and my IPad. Wouldn’t have anything else. 👍

Ajl46 · 13/09/2021 11:30

I have an iPhone, my husband has android. His phone seems to suffer from more bugs / app reliability issues than mine. iPhones are very secure which is one of the main reasons I like them.

Etulosba · 13/09/2021 13:28

As I said in the other thread, I recently switched to ab iPhone and wished I had done it sooner. I particularly like the way that it integrates with my iPad meaning that I can make and receive phone calls on that.

ThatSunnyCorner · 13/09/2021 13:30

@HarrietsChariot

It's all down to personal preference. In my view iPhones only do about 90% of what Android phones can do, but the 90% they do do they do better.

My iPhone feels like a premium product (bloody well should for the price) whereas all the Androids I've ever had felt cheap as shit (even though they weren't).

Androids are more flexible but they go obsolete so quickly. Buy an iPhone and you can be sure it'll still be getting updates in four years. Buy an Android and you'll need a new one next year.

Why do Androids become obsolete after a year Confused
QueenBee52 · 13/09/2021 14:10

such a pointless debate...

its all personal preference 🤣

Polkadotties · 13/09/2021 14:23

I’ve got an iPhone, about to order a 12 pro max shortly. I also have an iPad and an Apple Watch. OH has a personal iPhone, a work iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Mac book and Apple TV. So I guess we an Apple house.
I would never move to Android. Their security is very weak compared to Apple. In addition to their they do not have as rigorous requirements to what they allow to be uploaded to their App Store.

QueenBee52 · 13/09/2021 15:28

I use the 12 Pro Max.. cameras good..

I only use Whatsapp... Strava... Imessage .. Viber... Mumsnet ..

christ Im a TECH FAILURE 🤣

minionese · 13/09/2021 15:41

Yeah cos Samsungs are cheap as chips aren't they 🙄

ManifestDestinee · 13/09/2021 15:47

YABU - I love my iPhone, it’s streets ahead of all the other options out there IMO

Only true devotees still use that line! Apple are masters of marketing but not much else.

Shade17 · 13/09/2021 15:51

I work for one of the largest financial tech companies in the world. As you can imagine digital security is absolutely insane. The only phones issued by the company are iPhones.
