Is identifying as an age really a thing now?

My friend works as a lecturer in a collage. There have been quite a few different identities, but at least two have identified as different age groups - a woman in her 40 identified as a 2 year old and another has 'several' identities, man and woman, ages 2-30.

I'd like to say I'm making it up, but I'm not. And I'm really not sure if it's supposed to be ironic or deadly serious. It must be ironic, right?

That’s just... nasty 🤢
@KittenKong, not the other students, he tried to get the staff to change his nappy. Succeeded at least once .
Wtf?

CatsArePeople · 09/09/2021 18:16

why do educational establishments even accept this shit? Some financial incentives?

KittenKong · 09/09/2021 18:17

‘So how was your day today?’
‘Fine - worked on a new campaign, has lunch with my boss. You?’
‘I changed an fully able bodied man’s nappy... he’d been eating carrots...’

Yes! My brother was an accountant in a uni - he said that the students acted like little hitlers (and were always moaning and whinging ‘I pay your wages! I am the customer!’ Etc).

My guess? Identify in the in-thing amongst youths and most people in policy making decisions understand very little about it: but being socially aware is part of the job. You need to ‘look’ like you’re in the know - it’s academia and part of that is being at the forefront of knowledge. So for now, it’s probably easier to grin and accept to fit in with other peers (who are likely also rolling their eyes about the whole thing).

Peak capitalism. Student is the customer. The customer is always right.

So, let's say a 35 year old man gets a 15 yo girlfriend. All ok though because really he's 15 as well?... yikes.

The end game is to erase consent. Especially of women and children.

KittenKong · 09/09/2021 18:24

I worked in a shop as a student. Yes, the customer was always... ‘something’

There is of course the delightful Stefonknee in Canada. 52 year old AMAB who identifies as a 6yr old girl.

I really don’t want this to turn into a trans debate, but ultimately yes - the other reason I suspect this is accepted is because once again it only matters to children and women. Taking the article above about the adult baby - it was a woman who was affecting by the nappy change. Did anything similar happen to a man (and more interestingly, would a woman go out of her way to humiliate herself to gain power (and would she even achieve such a thing) by getting a man to change her nappy)?

Well I definitely feel fucking old. I just can’t choose a number.

KittenKong · 09/09/2021 18:28

The Canadian one must be over 60 in human years by now.

The tone of this thread and the ridiculing of those with potentially mental health issues is a little unpleasant.

My mother spent her life working with people who have dissociative identity disorder. It is a horrific thing to live with and mostly brought on by absolutely unimaginable trauma that you wouldn't wish on anyone.

She had various patients all who had a variety of 'identities' in their system that were mostly created to protect their child self from whatever trauma they experienced

The 'kinky furriness' asside, we don't know these peoples mental state and it is entirely possible to 'identify' as someone of a different age as part of your system.

It is not as simple as posting on mumsnet 'ohhh, I identify as a 25 year old then 😂'

montysma1 · 09/09/2021 18:35

I identify as a multimillionaire and demand my right to be treated as such.

ikeepseeingit · 09/09/2021 18:36

Those people are mentally ill. It’s not really a case of identification, they’re sick. No sane person would tell people they were a two year old.

@MarleneDietrichsSmile

I hope it is serious

It will make people rethink the trans issue

Yep!
Annoyedanddissapointed · 09/09/2021 18:37

I think I am goimg to identify as Elon Musks wife. Because I strongly believe he is actually a villain and will kill us all so I need to be close to him😂😂😂 Now someone needs to tell him

Laiste · 09/09/2021 18:42

Where is it all going? What's the end point?

''You can BE whatever you want - and do and have whatever you want''.

It was meant to be an encouraging message. But they're taking it literally now!

I'll be 25 please...or 17 so i can make better life choices

Naunet · 09/09/2021 18:57

You’re all such terrible bigots. It’s all fun for you, but no one would ever go through the hell of being transage just to get their pension early or to be served in a pub. That would just never happen…
