Is identifying as an age really a thing now?

My friend works as a lecturer in a collage. There have been quite a few different identities, but at least two have identified as different age groups - a woman in her 40 identified as a 2 year old and another has 'several' identities, man and woman, ages 2-30.

I'd like to say I'm making it up, but I'm not. And I'm really not sure if it's supposed to be ironic or deadly serious. It must be ironic, right?

@Anordinarymum

I am sorry. I must be thick. I just do not get any of it
You don't get it because there's no bloody sense to any of it, not because you're thick. I'd be more worried if I did get it, tbh!
IveGotASongThatllGetOnYNerves · 09/09/2021 17:42

In fact, I believe I am 67. I will claim my pension now

GreyhoundG1rl · 09/09/2021 17:42

@romdowa

Can I identify as 6 weeks post birth instead of being 31weeks pregnant 😅😅
Well, if we're throwing reality out the window - fill your boots!
CatBumJuice · 09/09/2021 17:42

My work recently asked me to attend a course about email signature pronouns. I decided that was probably unnecessary....but am seriously considering making my work email signature pronoun 'it'. I wonder if they'd comment?

If only I could 😅🤣🤣

@Tomatobear

Wow that's mental! How far is this going to go?! I'm definitely identifying as a billionaire soon Grin
To be fair I have always felt as though I should actually be a billionaire. I certainly want to spend money like I am so I must be one surely?
daisyjgrey · 09/09/2021 17:46

@QueenPeary

Fetish/kink is not the same as identity politics.

They may not be the same thing but they often seem to overlap in the same person.

I would be interested to see the research on this. In the least inflammatory and more interested way possible, are you saying they often do based on knowledge or assumption?

QueenPeary · 09/09/2021 17:46

I do wonder if, when this all finally gets done with eating itself and just becomes unsustainable as we realise that society can no longer function, science, common sense and empirical reality will have some kind of faddy fashion moment instead.

All the cool woke people will be talking about statistics and logical fallacies.

boreda09 · 09/09/2021 17:46

I hope it is ironic.

Thatsplentyjack · 09/09/2021 17:46

@HesterAndPearlInBrightSunshine

So, let's say a 35 year old man gets a 15 yo girlfriend. All ok though because really he's 15 as well?... yikes.
It really does look like that's the way it's going.
WhereYouLeftIt · 09/09/2021 17:48

And OP, your lecturer friend might want to have a read at this and maybe raise with HR how the staff can be protected from adult babies. THere's lots of info out there about this case and others, most are far more salacious than this article!

I identify as an occasional table, but only when I am in IKEA, at all other times I am a red Ford Fiesta with a dodgy headlight.

Was that the one who tried to get other students to change his nappy?

I remember my dad saying that he still felt the same way as he did when he was 18 (he was 70 then). If only he knew...

shinynewapple21 · 09/09/2021 17:51

I identify as 22 years old and it's still the 1980s.

Mirror disagrees though . And my body when I stand up Sad

QueenPeary · 09/09/2021 17:51

I suppose it's a combination of things that are coming to light such as the pushing of kink as part of Pride, and the evidence for AGP where fetishising women's clothes/looks has become a reason to adopt a "trans" identity. We have seen that being an adult baby as referred to below can be a sexual fetish, but if your fetish involves pretending to be something/someone else, and we live in a world where that's taken seriously and often praised, people are incentivised to turn a fetish into an "identity".

Haskell · 09/09/2021 17:52

@LynetteScavo

I think school children should identify as OAPs to get free bus travel to school.
OAPs can't use their pass before 9:30, so no use for school Wink
PhilCornwall1 · 09/09/2021 17:52

I wouldn't mind identifying as being in my 20s. My body says otherwise and I'd rather be in bed than the pub at 10pm.

As someone in their 20s goes, I'd be shit.

14/16/22: My friend works as a lecturer in a collage.
.......
He has to blend in with the surrounding fixtures.

grin

Annoyingly I noticed just after posting but it adds to the surrealism I think.

Coincidentally, my username has nothing to do with age identities smile
....
Grin

Good job your friend is not a lecherer.

I hope so too

thinkingaboutLangCleg · 09/09/2021 18:03

some people actually suffer from a medical condition, & some people appropriate that condition to big themselves up & have something to talk about, which I thought was pathetic, dishonest & disrespectful.

This, 100%. And I’m not going to pretend I respect people who do that.

KittenKong · 09/09/2021 18:06

Ah - the Tourette’s copycats from tiktok? Bonkers.

EmotionalSupportBear · 09/09/2021 18:06

@QueenPeary

Its outdated thoughts like that that give the whole thing a bad name.

What whole thing? Making up all kinds of identities, claiming to be things you cannot be and demanding other people take you seriously? That whole thing, getting a bad name? Surely not.

nope, was talking purely about people who believe that furry is a kink, not the rest of it.
WhereYouLeftIt · 09/09/2021 18:13

@KittenKong, not the other students, he tried to get the staff to change his nappy. Succeeded at least once .
