Is identifying as an age really a thing now?

My friend works as a lecturer in a collage. There have been quite a few different identities, but at least two have identified as different age groups - a woman in her 40 identified as a 2 year old and another has 'several' identities, man and woman, ages 2-30.

I'd like to say I'm making it up, but I'm not. And I'm really not sure if it's supposed to be ironic or deadly serious. It must be ironic, right?

@GoogleWhacked

Thank you *@TableFlowerss*. I found that very thought-provoking.
Thank you. That’s very kind of you to say.

The problem with 'self id-ing' as a whole is that they don't REALLY want the whole package.
Your two year old fully grown woman doesn't REALLY want to wear nappies, go down for a lunchtime nap, eat baby portions of food, have no say in anything, have no right to vote, not be paid for work, not be able to drive, not have a bank account or a house, etc.
It's all bollocks.
One might say that the same applies to sexual identity. They want the 'frilliness' of womanhood without the shit that goes along with it.
PLEASE give me worse pay for the same job, FGM, disrespect, periods, child birth, endometriosis, menopause, etc.
I don't think so.
Unless they embrace every aspect of their chosen identity then its all lip service and total crap. Cherry picking the fun bits.
We all know self id-ing is only words. It doesn't change anyone's reality.

Precisely!

No it won't unless they are already biased against them and looking for excuses like you. Also I suspect OP has similar Reasons for posting this.

How is it any different though really, on a rational level?

QueenPeary · 10/09/2021 10:21

So true RVN123. And that's what makes me so angry when people can't seem to see that some male person isn't somehow "just as much a woman as I am" just because he says he is. There is so much about being a woman / 2-year-old / squirrel / whatever that cannot be experienced by the self-IDer.

QueenPeary · 10/09/2021 10:23

toconclude If you think this, please explain why it's fine to ID as the opposite sex and everyone has to take that seriously, but not as a different race, which will get you cancelled and shunned? What about a different age or species? If not OK, why not?

I won't hold my breath though as I seem to recall asking this a number of times and getting no answer strangely enough.

NashvilleQueen · 10/09/2021 10:34

Rachel Dolezal was absolutely vilified for her actions. No one thought she was stunning and brave. Or living her authentic sense. White pop stars who have corn row hairstyles are accused of cultural appropriation.

It's either ok for everything or it exposes the fallacy that you can choose to be a different age or sex.

The age and the sex raise more safeguarding issues than race ID.

It is inconceivable that an adult could self identify as a child and be considered to be one for the purpose of accessing children for nefarious purposes, yet, it is acceptable for a man to identify as a woman and gain access to women and children and it is bigoted to question it. Men are self IDing as women for nefarious purposes (see the Wi Spa incident recently) and women and girls are collateral damage.

This is not an anti trans issue it's a safeguarding issue. The erosion of safeguarding that Self ID enables is harmful to women and children. The same goes for id-ing as a younger age. What's the difference?

@Lweji

It's tempting for me to identify as a 70 year old and demand to be allowed to retire.
Seriously, if I do this will I be able to retire and claim my pension?
Whatsnewpussyhat · 10/09/2021 11:01

There was one a couple of years ago in Canada or America where they let the adult male attend ballet class with little girls to 'affirm' an identity because they missed out on all the girly things growing up. Hmm
Pics of this male in a bloody leotard acting like a child and we all must pretend it's all perfectly normal and in no way fetishistic.

Safeguarding goes out of the window because some males want access.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 10/09/2021 11:05

I've been saying this for a while, but I'd like to identify as European please, and get my European passport back.

I was raised European, always thought as myself as European, and still feel European inside.

FOJN · 10/09/2021 12:38

The tone of this thread and the ridiculing of those with potentially mental health issues is a little unpleasant.

What is more unpleasant is that clearly delusional people are being taken seriously rather than being treated and if you are unwilling to buy into the delusion you are called a bigot.

The push to give feelings primacy over facts has huge implications for drafting workable legislation and therefore society as a whole.

Don't be surprised if people mock when they feel powerless to halt the madness, it's a coping mechanism for the epidemic of toxic batshittery now taking over the western world.

Raggedyanabell · 10/09/2021 12:46

@forinborin

but am seriously considering making my work email signature pronoun 'it'. I wonder if they'd comment? I know someone who got into trouble for putting he/his into the signature, while being a very feminine woman, married with children. Well, not a massive trouble as in disciplinary, but was told off for mockery.

Yes, it was done as a statement, but there was literally nothing else - just adding pronouns when the company issued a guidance for everyone to use them in signatures.

So if you comment on she/her pronouns for a biological male with a full beard etc you're a bigot, because that person is stunning and brave...but a feminine female gets told off for using he/him? 🤔

Yes, thankfully the tide seems to be turning and people are feeling more able to speak up

NemesiaPinkLagoon · 10/09/2021 13:27

Maybe it isn't literal but more about 'embracing your inner child'?

Charleymouse · 10/09/2021 13:37

Raggedyanabbell I know right.

It made an interesting conversation starter with my teens when we've watched this.

Can a 5'9, White Guy Be a 6'5, Chinese Woman?

MarleneDietrichsSmile · 10/09/2021 13:45

Quote: “ Safeguarding goes out of the window because some males want access.”

That’s it

Way back in the seventies, there was a lot of sympathy and support for peadophiles

We now know what that led to

A very vocal group of biological males want access to vulnerable women and young children. What could their motives possibly be…

forinborin · 10/09/2021 13:50

Pretty much. Interesting, isn't it. It is a good friend of mine, and she was planning to move on from that place anyway (left in less than 6 months, unrelated reasons). Was quickly told she is taking the pass with her preferred pronouns, and I think someone might have even complained formally that it makes them uncomfortable (may be wrong here).

I am too much of a wuss to attempt something like that, just secretly admired her. Gave me a lot of food for thought.

KittenKong · 10/09/2021 13:54

I did a clock and collect and accidentally called myself Mr Kitten Kong. Not an eyelid was batted when I collected my parcel. Hurumph

I can just imagine the 'WTF' look on my 6YOs face if I asked him that 😅 it's crazy that adults are seriously behaving this way. I can't get my head around it.

My sister sent me a birthday moonpig package addressed to 'Madame Tinklebottom' and no eyebrows were raised 😅
KittenKong · 10/09/2021 16:16

My sister probably would send me something with that exact name on it!

@Westerman

Is it just my impression or do some young people nowadays seem to be having trouble accepting who they are?
They're very confused. They spend hours agonising over identities, whether they're lesbian, or bisexual or pansexual or panromantic(?) etc. Or if they aren't really interested in sex yet, does that mean they're asexual? And that's before we get onto the gender identities. They don't feel girly every day, so are they a boy, non-binary, gender fluid, demi-girl/boy, agender? The list goes on. I'm being completely serious. I have seen online conversations where young teenagers are genuinely distressed and confused about which of all these adjectives they are.

One told me the other day she had finally decided she was an omni-lesbian I have no idea.

When I was young all you had to think about was whether you were straight or gay, and even then, there was no pressure to be able to declare it with certainty. I pity teenagers today.
