Is identifying as an age really a thing now?

My friend works as a lecturer in a collage. There have been quite a few different identities, but at least two have identified as different age groups - a woman in her 40 identified as a 2 year old and another has 'several' identities, man and woman, ages 2-30.

I'd like to say I'm making it up, but I'm not. And I'm really not sure if it's supposed to be ironic or deadly serious. It must be ironic, right?

What is their biological sex?

Tangledtresses · 09/09/2021 16:51

I'm going to identify as 68 and retire 😀😀😀😀😀😀

ACPC · 09/09/2021 16:51

Sign me up. I'm 40 but want to be 13 so I don't have to work, study too much or do any adult shit. I'll just sit in my room listening to the Smiths and gazing at my shoes thanks.

MsFogi · 09/09/2021 16:51

Well at least it will make people give some thought to why it is okay to identify as a woman but not okay to identify into another group (whether age, disability, ethnicity etc).
This option is quite attractive though - I think I'd do quite well at school if I could identify as an 11 year old and start again in year 7.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 09/09/2021 16:52

Yes, 'identifying' into oppressed groups and into other people's disabilities and mental health issues is very popular now.

Tourette's and DID are simply the latest.

HermioneKipper · 09/09/2021 16:52

God I hope this is serious. Then everyone will be able to see what an utter nonsense self identification is.

Right side of history my arse!

@worstdaughter

Faking disassociative identity disorder (multiple personalities) is quite trendy at the moment especially in teenagers so I'm not surprised it's rife in a 6th form to be honest.
I took a walk on the wild side when this came up before, & checked out what was being said by those who claimed to have it. There seemed to be a split between people who have trauma-based DID & those who don't have any trauma - I forget the terms they used for it.

To me it seemed like some people actually suffer from a medical condition, & some people appropriate that condition to big themselves up & have something to talk about, which I thought was pathetic, dishonest & disrespectful.

356calligrapher · 09/09/2021 16:58

I wonder if they actually “identify” as those things or take part in the whole baby fetish thing or have something like DID Hmm strange people out there

EmotionalSupportBear · 09/09/2021 17:00

love that so many are taking the piss, rather than realising the illegality of what the OP and her 'friend' are doing by sharing her students private medical information for people to use as something to laugh at.

TheRebelle · 09/09/2021 17:00

@ifIwerenotanandroid people have always made shit up to make themselves feel/appear more interesting, it’s just that it’s socially acceptable now.

Natsku · 09/09/2021 17:00

Well my 3 year old has been insisting that he is actually 10 years old for the last few months so I guess he's doing it too.

They haven’t been identified. And if anyone recognises them irl - that’s because they go around acting ‘as if’ they are 2.
EmotionalSupportBear · 09/09/2021 17:03

@KittenKong that doesn't make it ok, its breach of GDPR.

KittenKong · 09/09/2021 17:06

No it’s not - it doesn’t give out identifying information

MuggleStudiesResearchProject · 09/09/2021 17:07

Looking forward to the workplace email signature mandates for your preferred pronouns, age, species, race, star sign, wealth/class status, kink, and disability...

SommerTen · 09/09/2021 17:07

I would be interested to know if those people who identify as various ages are those who purport to suffer from DID (Disassociative Identity Disorder 1 - the disorder that many attention seekers like to claim to have)??

People who suffer from DID are known as a 'System' with 'Alters' of various ages & personalities who have formed due to Trauma, including Alters known as 'littles' who are child Alters.
Some Alters can be animal or fictive Alters... these tend to be found in the fake Systems however.

If you want to see the fake weirdness in action go to the subreddit 'fakedisordercringe' on Reddit.

Obviously a minority of people do suffer from DID but they find it very difficult to lead a normal life with the disorder.

MadamBatty · 09/09/2021 17:07

Breach of GDPR? If they go around telling people that they identify 2 & somebody repeats that it breaches GDPR?

So if I tell somebody I’m from X place & other person repeats it to somebody else it’s a breach of GDPR?

Identifying as something is not a medical issue? Unless it’s diagnosed gender disphoria, I thought that doesn’t exist anymore.

EmotionalSupportBear · 09/09/2021 17:08

@KittenKong

No it’s not - it doesn’t give out identifying information
so you'd be perfectly fine with drs and nurses coming on here to take the piss out of their patients, sharing peoples private medical information?

It doesn't matter that its not identifying, i've worked in education, you're not allowed to talk about your students private information.

OneTC · 09/09/2021 17:08

Gonna identify as 126 going straight into GWR and then kick off if they don't backdate my pension

SommerTen · 09/09/2021 17:09

@KittenKong I saw the death camp dress up 'victims' made my blood boil.

MintyCedric · 09/09/2021 17:11

@AnnaDyne

I identify as a 45 year old man and demand a 20% payrise immediately

The animal thing isn't that new is it? My dds were telling me about the furries at their school who all identify as different animals.

I think furries are quite different to lycanthropes or otherkins.

The latter identify as animal or part animal/part human.

Being a furry is more of a sexual paraplegia.

MintyCedric · 09/09/2021 17:11

Ffs paraphilia
