Is identifying as an age really a thing now?

FourteenSixteenTwentyTwo · 09/09/2021 15:28

My friend works as a lecturer in a collage. There have been quite a few different identities, but at least two have identified as different age groups - a woman in her 40 identified as a 2 year old and another has 'several' identities, man and woman, ages 2-30.

I'd like to say I'm making it up, but I'm not. And I'm really not sure if it's supposed to be ironic or deadly serious. It must be ironic, right?

Can I identify someone else as something?

So I can now identify you as being a cat. Or I identify as someone who believes that you are a cat. This could get confusing. But I I’d stiff as someone who has complete clarity in thinking.

@FourteenSixteenTwentyTwo

How is this actually manifesting, OP? As in, are people putting in their email sign-off 'please treat me as a 3-year-old' or whatever? Or is it more like those quizzes where you answer multiple-choice questions and it tells you if you're Marlene Dietrich or Bettie Page?

I didn't see this post but just wrote something similar about those quizzes. As far as I know it's part of their applications (please state your 'identity') and the meet and greet. I presume they are welcome to put it in their email signatures but beyond that, I can't see what the goal is.

I supposes it's likely that it is a bit of a joke and one-upmanship: "Jean identifies as x so I'm going to go one better and be Y".

I know at least one of the ages and the animal was in the application stage. Take that as you will.

I see. It's weird to say the least, isn't it?

(And typing)

AnnaDyne · 09/09/2021 16:32

I identify as a 45 year old man and demand a 20% payrise immediately

The animal thing isn't that new is it? My dds were telling me about the furries at their school who all identify as different animals.

LynetteScavo · 09/09/2021 16:33

I think school children should identify as OAPs to get free bus travel to school.

No, I don't think the animal thing is, actually. And without being too revealing it is a 'cutesy' type animal so I guess it would be part of that type of thing.

I'm ignoring both my lockdown birthdays so technically I'm 28 again...

SmashingBlouson · 09/09/2021 16:37

I am identifying as an affluent 70 year old, so at least now I feel supported by our government instead of royally shafted instead.

GoogleWhacked · 09/09/2021 16:37

I think I'd like to identify as 10 when booking my train ticket (nearly half the price of adult ticket!) and as 25 when ordering alcohol. Then I'll be 70 when I go to the theatre to get my OAP discount.

It’s got nothing to do with trans people.

You cannot be serious.

this isn't anything to do with trans.

I suspect the older women practises something called 'age regression' which is to do with trauma, where they 'regress' into a safe space to do with a particular age before the trauma to help process stuff.

The other one, if serious, is something called Disassociative Identity Disorder, which is a recognised mental health/medical condition.. which again, is often associated with Trauma, where the peron manifests several different personalities with differing names/gender identities/mannerisms/accents... sometimes the 'main' personality can disappear during times of stress/trauma and one of the others will come to the fore. The word they use for themselves is often 'System'

OF course they could also be talking bollocks, but if your 'friend' is sharing peoples mental health conditions to take the piss, they ought to reconsider their job.

Sorry I don't understand your question.[/quote]
Which is unsurprising as I meant to quote another poster! Sorry!

It was this one: "Our psychology lecturer would show us old Hollywood films depicting DID and rip them the shreds. I wonder what she would make of all this (actually she was very down to earth ‘take no shit’ so I suspect she would laugh them out of the room, in a kind way)." Kittenkongs I think?

Grin

Annoyingly I noticed just after posting but it adds to the surrealism I think.

Coincidentally, my username has nothing to do with age identities Smile

I'm going to go and hide under the sofa cushions until it's all over.
What the fuck is going on out there??
Right now I want to live on another planet!

AGirlCalledJohnny · 09/09/2021 16:41

As in what is DID? Or am I just having a hard time walking and chewing gum today? 🤦🏻‍♀️

worstdaughter · 09/09/2021 16:42

Faking disassociative identity disorder (multiple personalities) is quite trendy at the moment especially in teenagers so I'm not surprised it's rife in a 6th form to be honest.

AveryGoodlay · 09/09/2021 16:44

Ohh I'm a black woman but I'd really like to experience being a white man. Can I self identify tomorrow?!

SisterBeaverhausen · 09/09/2021 16:44

@MyCatEatsPrawnCrackers

If transwomen can demand smears etc maybe I'll identify as 67 and demand my state pension 13 years early. I'm all for it.
Transwomen can demand smears? Why? Surely the cells wouldn't be the same? That seems like a waste of time and resources?
GreyhoundG1rl · 09/09/2021 16:44

quite trendy at the moment
This sums up the whole ludicrous mess, really. A fad. May it pass soon rather than bloody later, I've had more than enough of it all now.

InpatientGardener · 09/09/2021 16:48

Reminds me of the film Split

MadamBatty · 09/09/2021 16:50

SS I identify as a beautiful 6 foot 25 year old
