How often do you and your dc eat McDonald's?

I don't drive and there isn't one within walking distance so for us it's a rare thing on day trips. I'd have one more often as I'm rather partial to a McFlurry or a veggie deluxe meal and dc think it's the height of excitement Grin and think I'm a bit mean that we can't have one as often as their friends. Is it a treat? A regular thing? Just something quick and cheap to grab? No judgement from me, just curious as to what's normal as apparently I'm not normal 😂

Never. Dcs prefer kfc or subway.

Evesgarden · 08/09/2021 14:15

About once or twice a week. Its on the way home from after school care on the two late nights I have at work. I dont feel bad about it either. The kids are starving, they like it and it frees up some time when I get in.

Alliolly · 08/09/2021 14:15

I've had McD only a handful of times and don't really like it, so it has never crossed my mind to take DC to one.
Our go to convenience/rubbish take away food is pizza, which depending on our shifts (both shift workers) we have anywhere between once a month to twice a week.

Mamadothehump · 08/09/2021 14:18

Maybe 4 times a year for actual food but over the summer we did pop out some evenings just for a McFlurry. Nearest to us is within a mile. DH and 2 younger DC enjoy it but me and DC1 not particularly fussed. Only thing I'd really have is a chicken wrap and I can make nicer at home.

AnnaDyne · 08/09/2021 14:19

I never do. But my teen dc are regular consumers via Uber Eats.

(my younger dc don't eat it at all because I don't like or approve of it).

StrawBeretMoose · 08/09/2021 14:22

We don't eat McDonald's, Burger King, KFC, Nando's etc.
Go to treat food is pizza or Chinese takeaway, in case anyone thinks it's just a general aversion to junk food.

EmpressSuiko · 08/09/2021 14:22

A few times a year, we live rurally so fast food isn’t readily available to us unless we are going out to a town or having a day out somewhere

tellmehonest · 08/09/2021 14:22

@peboh

Probably once every few months. DD only eats nuggets and a couple of fries so it's just a waste of money and I prefer other places.
This is the thing, if they don't eat it, it's such a waste of money. Can easily do nuggets and chips at home for pence and include some vegetables 😜

So incredibly rarely, sometimes DH has been given an amount food money ( he claims back) on one of his jobs and brings it home for all of us. Personally I'd prefer he went to supermarket.

KurtWilde · 08/09/2021 14:23

Once a week, as a treat at the weekend. Sometimes we pop in while we're out shopping on Saturday afternoon, sometimes we have it delivered on the Sunday evening if we've had a busy day and I don't fancy cooking. Occasionally we get kfc instead.

MrsScrubbithatescleaning · 08/09/2021 14:26

Pretty much never.
I don’t like them anyway and we live about 90min drive from nearest McD’s / city. DS prefers Nando’s on the rare occasion we visit the city.

However, there’s a few independent fast food places that are a bit nearer and I don’t mind going to occasionally because the food doesn’t taste like it’s reheated mush. Even then it’s probably about 4 times a year max.

We rarely get a takeaway for the same reason, nothing remotely nearby. The last Indian meal I bought was dreadful and I can make much better curries at home. I did buy fish and chips from a takeaway shop last weekend when we were coming home from a trip as it was on the way home and we sat and ate them in the car, as home was another 30mins away.

I’ve certainly had to improve my cooking skills in the last 10 years. Grin

butterry · 08/09/2021 14:29

We only go to a service station one, usually on the way back from somewhere if it’s a long drive 3hrs + so maybe 2-4 times a year

JurassicShay · 08/09/2021 14:29

We don't have one close and I don't drive so its when we go into town which is a 45min bus ride away. This could be twice in one week or not at all for 6 months.

Getting one tomorrow as the DC have dentist, I can't wait Grin

Chikapu · 08/09/2021 14:31

Never.

AuntieMarys · 08/09/2021 14:32

Never had one

AlexaShutUp · 08/09/2021 14:32

Never, because dd has always hated McDonald's. She likes her fair share of junk food, but not that!Grin

Doomscrolling · 08/09/2021 14:35

When on a long drive starting in a morning - visiting family or taking the youths to/from university - my DH and DD get a McDonalds breakfast. DSs and I don’t like them, so we get pastries or a Marmite toasty from Starbucks/Pret.

NotAnotherBloodyNameChange · 08/09/2021 14:36

Once in a blue moon tbh.

The last one I had was when the drive through opened up after the first lockdown.
I think DH may had taken them a couple of times since then though.

TellySavalashairbrush · 08/09/2021 14:36

I have the coffee regularly, but when I crave the food I am nearly always bitterly disappointed afterwards. It just doesn't taste as nice as it used to in the 80s/90s imo.

Iflyaway · 08/09/2021 14:39

Never.

NichyNoo · 08/09/2021 14:40

Possibly once a year.

irregularegular · 08/09/2021 14:42

Me and DH - pretty much never. I can't remember the last time. Because I think they are pretty vile. The kids do like it so we had a thing for a while where, once a year if we were driving a long way for a holiday we would get one on the way as a "treat". Usually in France, where they did seem very slightly nicer!

DD is now 19 and buys them fairly often I'm afraid. Usually after a long work shift as she is starving and there is one just next door. Up to her. DS 17 will buy them occaionally but prefers other options.

Peanutsandchilli · 08/09/2021 14:43

A few times a year, usually as a treat as part of a day out. It seems to have really gone downhill recently though, and last time we went they only had two choices of drink.

irregularegular · 08/09/2021 14:43

Recently we were on a long drive to a UK holiday and we stopped at services. DS had McDonalds. DH and I had nice salads from M&S!

DocAutumn · 08/09/2021 14:45

My oldest is 12 and we have had it twice. We do eat plenty of fast food (too much) but go for fish and chips or pizza or Chinese food and never really think of burgers when we are having a take away.

FrancescaContini · 08/09/2021 14:46

Never. It smells so awful 🤮🤮
