How often do you and your dc eat McDonald's?

I don't drive and there isn't one within walking distance so for us it's a rare thing on day trips. I'd have one more often as I'm rather partial to a McFlurry or a veggie deluxe meal and dc think it's the height of excitement Grin and think I'm a bit mean that we can't have one as often as their friends. Is it a treat? A regular thing? Just something quick and cheap to grab? No judgement from me, just curious as to what's normal as apparently I'm not normal 😂

Oh, totally forgot about the Turkish Kebab place! That was a favourite. Beautifully cooked lamb, and plenty of it. But they stopped doing the proper yoghurt and garlic sauce because most customers preferred garlic mayo 🤢🤢 so then there wasn’t much point in getting it anymore. Sad times.

That's actually quite sad to read. A Turkish restaurant / takeaway no longer making / offering a traditional sauce because people want garlic mayo (which is completely different)

PrincessOfTheDork · 09/09/2021 15:24

At most every 3 months I'd guess? I know DD goes there with friends sometimes in addition to that.

Hlgwsbytktu · 09/09/2021 15:30

Once a week during the holidays, once a fortnight term time. Going by the huge amounts of people always there and the just eat/ delivery people waiting there at all hours I'd say McDonald's is still very popular

Yes that’s exactly how we felt about it. Firstly it’s such a shame to lose the traditional elements that have come together so well for centuries. Secondly garlic mayo just doesn’t work on a kebab. It completely ruins it.

@Parker231

For those not a fan of McD’s- what is your fast food alternative?
We have a weekly takeaway so curry, pizza, Chinese, fish and chips, KFC if ds can talk me into it. I don't like burgers so burger chains don't appeal and DH and DS would rather have a proper burger (or Burger King) rather than Maccy D's

Chinese is the firm favourite in our house. The other options in our small town are Indian, two chippies and an Italian that does takeaway.
evilharpy · 09/09/2021 18:07

But even if we did have a McDonalds on our doorstop we would hardly ever go. If we had a KFC next door we'd probably go once a month.

ILoveAnOwl · 09/09/2021 18:22

We used to go once a week after swimming as it was a Friday night and meant I didn't have to cook. Now it's probably every other month.

skyisblue21 · 09/09/2021 18:44

Regular thing in our house. Kids love the filo fish meal with extra Tatar sauce. Its definitely quicker to grab a maccies drive thru than go anywhere else as other places near us take forever to cook the food, and mine usually complain when it's something else, maccie is the only thing they eat with absolutely no fuss 🙄 one of my child will only eat fries from McDonald's, no other fries or chips is acceptable to him

BrilliantBetty · 09/09/2021 18:53

Burger king of macD once a month on average.

I was never allowed to try it or any fast food (or meat) as a child. Sugar v tightly controlled. So as soon as I got a taste of freedom I went crazy for all of it. I don't like any of it much any more but don't want it to feel 'forbidden' (and so super desirable) to my kids

NotMyCat · 09/09/2021 23:03

I want a McDonald's now Grin
We are lucky to have fantastic takeaways around including a burger place that does the best burgers. But sometimes I just want the cheap pleasure of a quarter pounder with cheese

SeoultoSeoul · 09/09/2021 23:15

About once a year until I discovered the chilli chicken wrap for £1.99 on the wrap of the day deal. Now it's once a fortnight Grin

Briony123 · 09/09/2021 23:31

They had it once aged 5 &2 on a long road trip when there was nothing else. They didn't think much of it and haven't had it since, that was 8 years ago. If you don't eat it regularly then it actually isn't very appealing.

SoManyPaws · 09/09/2021 23:39

Kids and partner, once a month maybe. As a vegan, I wouldn’t eat anything from there.

Guineapigbridge · 09/09/2021 23:44

Once a year, max. I think it's gross and overpriced. I go there if the kids get a voucher from sport or whatever but I spend the bare minimum. When they were toddlers I used to take them there on rainy days for an ice-cream.

Guineapigbridge · 09/09/2021 23:45

They ask for sushi and KFC burgers rather than mcDs anyway.

douliket · 10/09/2021 00:03

Why just Mac Donald's? Or are we including fast food?? If fast food then definitely once or twice a week, convenient when busy and exhausted, kids love take away nights. Mac Donald's maybe once a month or two!

Xmasbaby11 · 10/09/2021 00:18

Only once a year I think, for DD's birthday because she loves it.

If we eat out there are just so many cafes, pubs and restaurants to choose from, and likewise, with takeaway, we really have everything as we live in a city. The kids are fussy but will find something we like if we order from Turkish, Chinese, Indian, Italian or chippy. I must admit they would prefer McDs, but I'm not keen!

KeyboardWorriers · 10/09/2021 00:23

A couple of times a year probably. Usually if we are traveling/get stuck in traffic.

SoloISland · 10/09/2021 00:25

I have never ever had a Macdonalds, or any other fast food. Trying to remember even when I last had fish and chips. Many many years. Oh I occasionally had a sausage roll at a garage when out for the day, but that was several years ago.

Living in far flung Co Mayo and not off the island for a few years... and no car now

Boomkin · 10/09/2021 00:34

I haven’t eaten McDonalds for about 15 years. It’s too unhealthy and fattening. DC have one as a treat maybe once every couple of months. But in general we’re not the sort of people who eat that kind of stuff.

Siameasy · 10/09/2021 02:13

A few times a year as I’m not massively into it and see it as emergency food

And what are the sort of people that eat that kind of stuff?
AdriannaP · 10/09/2021 08:04

When we are traveling on the motorway so maybe 2-4 times a year. Definitely don’t make it a treat for DC.
