Overused phrases on social media

Anon778833 · 07/09/2021 08:36

The one I dislike most is 'and just like that'

'And just like that I have a (2, 12, 18 insert number) year old'

'And just like that she's off to university'

Am I alone in finding this exceedingly annoying?

It's not the only one.

'This dress is everything'
'This cake is everything'

Why do people copy these irritating trends? It's not young people either!

OMG "This One" I hate it! I knew a couple who said it about each other in real life too 🤮
"So this happened"
"You've got this" how the fuck do you know?
"Oh my" you are not out of little house on the prairie, stop saying "oh my" Angry

But agree OP it's not just that the phrases are annoying, it's the way people just mindlessly adopt them and use them instead of thinking of their own ways to express things.

My ex was like this, his social media and texting style would change completely according to the latest in-phrases. I hated it, it was so fake and desperate.

@FoxgloveSummers

I feel bad for the “making memories” people, they don’t realise their tiny kids will forget the picturesque boat trip/lovingly created picnic/wild camping and just remember the bit where they threw up on mummy’s shoes after too many marshmallows.
Grin

I hate 'reaching out'. Say it like it is, you sent them a text message!

Pigeonpocket · 07/09/2021 09:35

I hate all of them. I don't know why people can't just talk like they normally do instead of copying other people.

"about last night" is another one starting to annoy me.

Anon778833 · 07/09/2021 09:43

Agree. Thing is, some people are nice in real life but the way they post on social media makes me dislike them.

Exactly. I want to like their post but the way they posted it put me off.

Absolutely smashed it - why does everything have to be smashed...

CanofCant · 07/09/2021 09:45

@CapitanSandy

“So I did a thing” gives me irrational rage
Argh, yes, I fucking hate this!!!
CanofCant · 07/09/2021 09:47

Oh and 'my world' 🤮

Winecheesesleep · 07/09/2021 09:48

Drinks (etc) with This One.

I don't know why this annoys me so much!

Gatekeeper · 07/09/2021 09:53

I bloody hate 'super' being used all over the place. I hear it in my head as a squeaky, flakey American woman saying it. What's wrong with Very, extremely, hyper, dead, exceptionally , really etc

WheelieBinPrincess · 07/09/2021 09:53

‘Little’

Little shopping trip. Little weekend break. Little get-together with the girls. Angry

lockdownmadnessdotcom · 07/09/2021 09:55

@kittenkipping

Can I also add "a cheeky" anything. Gin, pint, cake, spa day. I don't fucking care Sharon! You're paying for a thing, perfectly polite, and are a fucking adult!!! It's not cheeky you carrot! Nor should an adult woman aspire to cheekiness ffs
Yes this is another one I don't appreciate! Why is a wine cheeky? It absolutely isn't.
Cryalot2 · 07/09/2021 09:56

Dream is my no no.
Everyone has their dream home, dream wedding dream partner dream whatever. I just can't have it. I guess I never had a dream anything and never would want to.
Unique is another, usually in the form of silly tips in magazines. People make something and have nice unique things that everyone wants .

Travielkapelka · 07/09/2021 09:56

And…..relax

Accompanied by a photo of their legs or a view of a beautiful sea / pool. Always said by people who have a million holidays and do nothing more than get their nails done

VladmirsPoutine · 07/09/2021 09:57

What I find terrible are people who use AAVE assuming it's just 'internet speak' Hmm

user1488622199 · 07/09/2021 10:02

“If you know you know…” generally accompanied by a #. I don’t know and I don’t actually fucking care!

Faircastle · 07/09/2021 10:02

"She only went and did it."
"She smashed it."
"And just like that, she's off to uni."

notacooldad · 07/09/2021 10:03

I have a really lovely colleague who I get on with. She is super organized, very kind and great fun. However her fb post dri e me nuts. She does
"A big shout out to all the hard working mama's out there!" Or
"#hardworking mama.
I honest want to post just stop it Angela, no one is listening!

CatMandarin · 07/09/2021 10:04

Spider willies hee hee

IngridTails · 07/09/2021 10:09

'Wouldn't change them/it for the world' did somebody offer you the the world in the first place?

'And so..'

'In terms of' seems to pre-face every point anybody makes. I think it's the new 'regarding'?

MyLeftFootVMyRightFoot · 07/09/2021 10:09

My journey

Pull you for a chat

Catching feelings...what like you catch a cold? Odd

MyLeftFootVMyRightFoot · 07/09/2021 10:11

Comedycook · 07/09/2021 10:16

The new weird trend for calling people "humans" so love spending time with these amazing humans type posts

TheChippendenSpook · 07/09/2021 10:23

I really dislike ' forever home.'

Another one that I see on here all the time is 'its changes the dynamic.'
