Overused phrases on social media

The one I dislike most is 'and just like that'

'And just like that I have a (2, 12, 18 insert number) year old'

'And just like that she's off to university'

Am I alone in finding this exceedingly annoying?

It's not the only one.

'This dress is everything'
'This cake is everything'

Why do people copy these irritating trends? It's not young people either!

Siameasy · 08/09/2021 07:50

I hate “needs gone” so much

LondonladyTTC · 08/09/2021 07:51

I hate it when people call their partner 'my person' 🤮 like a possession...

WineInTheBlood · 08/09/2021 08:01

I'm generally not too bothered by the same regurgitated phrases in status updates, I might do the odd internal eye roll at most of the ones already mentioned. But for me it's when reading comments and you always see the same stupid responses. Two that stand out are:

"I bet you're fun at parties" and
"You sir, won the internet".

Gah! They're both two of the most used phrases online but people seem to think they're somehow being original and funny!

WineInTheBlood · 08/09/2021 08:06

@RincewindsHat

Photos accompanied by: "Because Tuesday." "Because Wednesday." "Because cake." "Because sunshine."

Urgh, stop it!

Oh god yeah "Because" - ugh! I take it back, reading through more of these I think most of these overused phrases really annoy me.
ShellfishLove · 08/09/2021 08:11

I struggle when people tag themselves at an A&E in an attention-seeking post for a minor accident

WorryMcGee · 08/09/2021 08:12

“This one”. Confused

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 08/09/2021 08:43

Oh and when people buy something with their own money and post a picture captioned "thank you (insert company)" like it's been gifted to them for free when it hasn't and they have paid for it?!

Yeah,in the hope they'll get free stuff in exchange for advertisingHmm

LindaEllen · 08/09/2021 09:03

"It's a kinda day."

So .. it's a new shoes kinda day
It's a new hair kinda day
It's a new nails kinda day.

Is it????

FFS.

LindaEllen · 08/09/2021 09:05

@Westerman

'Living my best life' is the one I dislike the most. I also can't bear the Americanisms, especially when something is 'super' eg I'm super-excited. Argh!
Agree with the best life thing. I strongly believe that if someone was genuinely living their 'best life', they wouldn't be posting about it on social media. Because IMO sharing things for attention isn't and shouldn't be a part of any perceived 'best life'.
pangolina · 08/09/2021 09:10

Oh I thought of another one.

"It's a no from me" It just sounds so pompous and self- important. And like they're Simon Fucking Cowell.

Nonbio46 · 08/09/2021 09:47

‘Blessed’ makes me cringe ( sorry if it’s already been mentioned).

Geminijust · 08/09/2021 10:26

Om nom nom. Or, even worse, just nom.
Arghhhhh!

BlotBangRub · 08/09/2021 15:12

People typing ' oh bless you '.
It sounds so condescending.

Op. My toddler just cut the cats whiskers off and scribbled on my new sofa. I'm knackered.
Response. Oh bless you op, toddler's are such hard work.

I have visions of bloody Mary Poppins tapping her wisdom out on a keyboard while dispensing spoonfuls of bloody sugar!

Oh and soon, we'll have 'it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas' accompanied by generic photos of Christmas trees or mugs of hot chocolate or bags of shopping.

'Journey.'

My weight loss journey
My DIY journey
My scrapbooking journey

'Announce.'
Excited to announce....

Plus status updates that read like an acceptance speech at the Oscars.....

I do love seeing people's decorated Christmas trees though 😁

LBirch02 · 08/09/2021 18:42

Plus I think the only thing that should be put in Xmas Eve boxes is loads and loads of popcorn so one can watch the bun fights follow over Xmas Eve box snobbery

LBirch02 · 08/09/2021 18:43

Anyone love seeing everyone in the entire family in identical matching pyjamas? Grin

sweatervest · 08/09/2021 19:14

some wee has come out! (that's not a FB expression - that's what has just happened to me when i'm reading this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

it's threads like this why i heart mumsnet.

Iknownothing · 08/09/2021 21:07

Just thought of another one - ‘tribe’
Either used to describe a family that has pictures of them undertaking some kind of Enid Blyton type activity or a group of friends drinking together that gives off school clique vibes.

Housewife2010 · 09/09/2021 07:42

How about the hideously misspelt "Devine"?
Also "I've just been sick in my mouth" - I hate that!
