The one I dislike most is 'and just like that'

'And just like that I have a (2, 12, 18 insert number) year old'

'And just like that she's off to university'

Am I alone in finding this exceedingly annoying?

It's not the only one.

'This dress is everything'
'This cake is everything'

Why do people copy these irritating trends? It's not young people either!

I read a very interesting book about all this if anyone cares called Because Internet by Gretchen Someoneorother.

Highly recommend it.

Linguistics for days.

@Westerman

'Living my best life' is the one I dislike the most. I also can't bear the Americanisms, especially when something is 'super' eg I'm super-excited. Argh!
A friend of mine used "living his best life" to describe her son in a text recently. I've not heard it used outside a SM platform before and whilst I love her I did an inner eye roll > yup I'm a crap friend Grin

The preserve of the younger social media user perhaps but when they like something eg “X thing.. is life”

I went to befriend someone on fb and her bio said “Lana Del Rey is life..”
ffs get a grip!!

"I feel seen" - when posting some meme about how difficult "adulting" is, etc.

Housewife2010 · 09/09/2021 20:09

I agree with everything on this thread! (That never happens.)

LadyCatStark · 09/09/2021 22:25

I’m on a FB page about Labradors and there’s so many posts where people put, “Show me you have a Labrador without showing me your Labrador” followed by an accompanying picture of a Labrador… 🙈

MLMbotsno · 10/09/2021 02:14

My Fur babies

Hate that. They are 🐕 you didn't birth them

Makes me irrationally angry. Twits

WineInTheBlood · 10/09/2021 17:25

Life hacks. Argh. And they're usually really crap ideas that won't actually make your life any easier!

ReeseWitherfork · 10/09/2021 18:46

Life hacks. Argh. And they're usually really crap ideas that won't actually make your life any easier! Like bloody Mrs Hinch who has somehow made a career on basic cleaning tips?! Sometimes my friends talk about things she's shared on our WhatsApp group and I'm curious how dirty their houses must have been before she existed.

@Batsaboutcats

“So this happened…[photo of what happened]”

Oh yeah, that one is so annoying.

Another vote for "this one"

"Little man"

Posts worded as if the cat/dog/guinea pig wrote them, in a special kind of pidgin English with pointless misspellings and grammar absurdities

Theluggage15 · 11/09/2021 22:54

Yes, fur baby! I’m on a local Facebook dog forum and I think I’m the only one who says ‘my dog’

Notdoingthis · 11/09/2021 22:57

Another 'I can't even'

On the 'making memories', what even is that? I'm not making memories, I am enjoying the moment.

CruCru · 11/09/2021 23:05

I've seen someone on MN post about how annoyed she was because she was trying to "Make Memories" and the children were sulky and uncooperative.

Lincslady53 · 12/09/2021 08:59

I get irritated by the overexaggeration in good reviews on a local page that has over 16,000 subscribers. I say ieeitated, but amused too. The vast majority of reviews are for takeaway food. Someone descrid

Lincslady53 · 12/09/2021 09:07

Hit the wrong button. Someone described their takeaway as 'Spectacular' . It was ducking fish and chips. Now, I like a good chippy tea, and a good one is tasty, but 'Spectacular?' Did dancing girls jump out of the packaging when you opened it? As the paper was unfurled, did fireworks shoot into the night sky adding to the ambiance created by the fading Northern Lights? As you took your first bite, did your tastebuds come alive, leave your mouth and do the fandango on your kitchen table? No, it tasted like fish and chips. Good fish and chips, but that is it.
