Husband had son's head shaved

We agreed he needed a haircut before school starts and he has had nice short cuts in the past which is what I expected but, to my horror, he brought him home from the barber with a practically shaved head. He is only 4 and I would only shave his head if he had lice or ringworms or some other disease of the scalp. It's also getting colder so I wonder why he thought this was a good idea. AIBU to be really annoyed by this?

Depends how short the hair is.

My DS2 has a number 2 all over. He's 6 and autistic and it's just easier than faffing.

If its a skinhead though I'd be annoyed simply because school may class it as an extreme cut.

PlanDeRaccordement · 01/09/2021 14:21

It’s the kind of thing that would annoy me, but not much. It’s just hair and will grow back and pretty soon your DS will be old enough to decide how he wants his hair. Perhaps your husband was trying to save money by having it cut really short so it would last longer?

KittenKong · 01/09/2021 14:22

Sounds a bit of an extreme haircut. What does the wee fella think of it?

ofwarren · 01/09/2021 14:22

Is he in reception?
The headmaster at my sons school would send him home with a shaved head.

SusieBob · 01/09/2021 14:24

It's done now and it's just hair, it'll grow back.

KittenKong · 01/09/2021 14:24

Why? It’s not like he can do anything about it, is it? Plus it wasn’t the child who did it. Why punish the child?

Abracadabra12345 · 01/09/2021 14:25

I’d be fuming but unfortunately there’s not much you can do

tttigress · 01/09/2021 14:26

How shaved is shaved, if number 0 could be a problem!

If pretty short, like number 3 or 4, probably won't look too bad in a week or 2

Babyiskickingmyribs · 01/09/2021 14:27

It will grow back surprisingly fast. Tell your DH you dislike this hairstyle and would prefer at least 2,3,4cm of hair or whatever.

Shirleyphallus · 01/09/2021 14:28

And be off school until it grows back? That’s nuts!

That's not totally ridiculous at all.
GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 01/09/2021 14:30

It’s annoying ! But it’ll grow back. Not sure what school will think about it…

My ex MIL (generally nice) cut my Dd a wonky fringe just before my brother’s wedding. It’s in all the photos!

youdoyoutoday · 01/09/2021 14:33

I insisted my son get a number 2 all over once when dropping of DP and son at the barbers!
Yeah my bad for not realising how short that is but it grew back really quick so hopefully it will for your son too.

? Would they want him to wear a toupee? Confused
WomanStanleyWoman · 01/09/2021 14:35

As an aside, I hate this fear of and desperate reverence for ‘The School’ some parents seem to live by. If schools concentrated on teaching rather than pupils’ appearance, maybe we’d have a better education system.

CBroads · 01/09/2021 14:40

There has been soooo many threads like this before. Why can't men be trusted to take children for a simple hair cut ? Honestly like I've never heard a mother taking the kids for a hair cut and it ending in disaster, like what's up with Dad's?

Whatinthelord · 01/09/2021 14:42

Define shaved. You mean very short rather than fully shaved.

I understand it might have annoyed you a little but I’d let it go. Hair grows so fast it won’t be like that long.

NiceGerbil · 01/09/2021 14:43

Why did he do that?

Like pp says it might not meet school rules.

It'll grow fast. But what a strange thing to do.

What did he say? Why he chose that cut?

It's a very strange thing to do. Wanted to piss you off?

Dahlietta · 01/09/2021 14:43

Practically is definitely the key word here. How short is it?

Seriously. What sort of school is your son at? I’d kick up one hell of a stink if a head teacher tried to keep my young child off school for a one off bad hair cut.
Pendhxa · 01/09/2021 14:44

Depends on how short. My dh and ds have theirs all over grade 3. No combing required ever. Zero maintenance until getting it shaved again.

There are at least 2 people in my family with names that weren’t the ‘agreed’ ones because the dads registered the births. I think a dodgy hair cut getting off lightly. (Irritating but gone in a couple of weeks).
SukonthaM · 01/09/2021 14:45

@Tataru no, they’d either suspend the pupil until the hair grows back

SukonthaM · 01/09/2021 14:45

Or put them in isolation.

What are you going on about? Nowhere does it say she is punishing the child. It's clear she is annoyed at the father NOT the child.
