Love Piers

Of course you're free to think whatever you like - but as yet you (and the others on here who have cried racism) haven't been able to point to any post which is actually racist.

I'm glad people have challenged the claims of racism - it's a serious allegation that should stand up to scrutiny, not simply one that should be bandied about when there's a difference of opinion.

CBUK2K2 · 03/09/2021 16:55

Trying to regulate speech is a very scary prospect because who decides what is offensive.

We've had laws making speech inciting crime for decades and that seems very sensible.

Beyond that, I say leave well along. If you don't like Pierce Morgan turn it off.

WinTheNight · 03/09/2021 17:02

I would happily tell you which posters I believe to be racist based on what’s written here and previous posts but I’d be deleted because as I’ve said, people know how to stay within the talk guidelines.

So either they need to trip themselves up and break guidelines. Or mumsnet would have to make it within talk guidelines to accuse someone of it.

Until then, I shall keep the posters names on a shit list in my own head. Thankfully my unspoken and unwritten thoughts can not be policed.

BrozTito · 03/09/2021 17:11

Have you told your boss that, CBUK?

If posters keep them in their head then that's absolutely fine - but the incessant cries of racist on this thread demonstrates that hasn't happened here. A difference of opinion does not warrant such a serious accusation, whether that's a generalised 'so many racists on here' or otherwise, and should be prepared to call out posts or posters - whether directly or via the report button. Staying within the talk guidelines works both ways.

I think we’re allowed to say there’s may be some subtle racism on the thread or say say I’m suspicious of some people’s agenda, as long as no one is named. I’ve definitely seen people post that on other threads and not be deleted so assume it’s within guidelines.
My observations are not about a difference of opinion, it’s what’s actually written. Mumsnet wouldn’t exist without differing opinions afterall but would certainly be better without racism,

mustlovegin · 03/09/2021 17:45

Amounts to 'Your reality isn't what you see right at the end of your nose, it's what I tell you it is, despite all evidence to the contrary'

Both 'sides' are guilty of this actually

MaMelon · 03/09/2021 17:48

Oh come now - subtle racism? That's hardly been the case on this thread - "ignorant racists" was said earlier iirc (with nothing to back it up, of course) Grin Racism is racism, and if you see it have the courage to call it out for what it is. The talk guidelines don't make a distinction between racism and subtle racism, MN deletes all forms of racism - so if it's written down and it's racist make a stand and report it. Otherwise cries of racism when there is none, or when there's a difference of opinion, does nothing more than stifle discussion.

And on that note I'm off to Ikea. Oh joy.

Haywirecity · 03/09/2021 17:58

I love IKEA. Never buy anything but they have great ideas.

You’ll notice I haven’t said this.

I agree, but some of it is more hidden. Do you really believe all racism is obvious and blatant?

Go on the black mumsnetter section and ask if they believe mumsnet deletes all racism on here. I think they’ll disagree with you saying that they delete it all, in fact I know they will.

Enjoy Ikea, rather you than me. 😬

VladmirsPoutine · 03/09/2021 18:25

I think people are sick of having to exert the mental energy to be subtly racist - they'd much prefer to just say it without consequence. I actually prefer the out and out racists as at least you know where you stand with them instead of having to dance around it. But I suppose the racists enjoy that too because then they get to wax lyrical about how they "DiDn'T saY aNyThInG rAcIst."

Whydidimarryhim · 03/09/2021 18:31

Yes he’s been cleared - he’s still a wanker - 🤣🤣
Dear Piers - let others talk and be allowed to express an opinion.
If the opinion doesn’t match your - you can be mature and agree to disagree.
It’s so telling as soon as he was challenged - he had a tantrum and walked off set!!!
I couldn’t watch GMTV due to him.
He hates Megan M - not healthy either.
Yes also to wondering what his wife thinks of his obsession with MM
Love and hate are closely linked.
I wondered why he hadn’t started his new job - he is still being paid!!
Interesting Suzanne Reid hasn’t met him since he left - they are “waiting for the dust to settle” - she could have popped in for a cup of tea - it doesn’t need to be a social outing.

Naptimenow · 03/09/2021 18:32

He’s such a horrible man but free speech is not something we should allow to erode. I have no issues with MM, do not understand why she makes him so rabid.

WinTheNight · 03/09/2021 18:36

It’s so telling as soon as he was challenged - he had a tantrum and walked off set!!!

Quite ironic considering he talks about free speech. He made himself look like a spoilt child. Silly little man.

ohtobeyoungagain · 03/09/2021 19:55

@CathyorClaire

I know 3 couples who class their wedding date as a date before the legal bit. They have that date on photo frames, one has a tattoo of the date for example. I don’t see the problem.

Not a problem at all when they're footing the bill themselves.

Almighty PR problem when a tax-payer funded bloated circus is casually dismissed as not the real deal.

Another one that keeps on being repeated, that DM will never correct ofcourse.

The wedding cost around 2.5M of which Charles covered 'out of his pocket' (yes, I know) because the actual father of the bride could understandably not cover. With H&M reportedly contributing a smaller sum of it.

The huge amount was on security by the Met - so covered by the taxpayer. But you really cannot blame H&M for this, as everyone in the RF was there, and I bet the other 6 in line cost way more than he does.

During that time, it was reported that H&M wanted a small , intimate wedding (especially due to MM previously being married), but were not allowed. It was also reported that the wedding would was a distraction for a divided Brexit UK.

CathyorClaire · 03/09/2021 20:15

Given Charles's history of dipping his extraordinarily sticky hands as deep as he can into the taxpayer's pocket that's not as selfless as it might be.

Yep. Bloated circus and even if H&M really and truly had their hands rammed up their backs over taking part the actual point about dismissing it flippantly (and all on global TV) still stands.

SallyLockheart · 03/09/2021 20:22

Is there a source to say Harry and Meghan wanted a smaller wedding. Media at the time reported that they wanted the same money spending on the wedding as William and Kate, and that would tie in with Harry’s attitude and expectation of being treated the same as William

ohtobeyoungagain · 03/09/2021 20:23

I am one of those who tuned off GMB because of him and started watching after he left and it was a breath of fresh air to actually hear people really talk and politicians given space to sink or swim.

His wife also writes vile about MM. H&M are some sort of Morgan family income with a dash of obsession for them. Also his wife was caught on a married cheating website (and claimed it was for research). So you do the maths.

This is what PM son twitted once. A strange family.

I thought Meghan wasn’t happy about the chapel not smelling how she wanted it to and the wedding cake tasting of egg. That doesn’t square with her wanting a low-key wedding. If that’s what she wanted though, and she had to have a fancy one, I feel bad for her.

ohtobeyoungagain · 03/09/2021 20:32

Ok,
Its the Express, but they hate MM, so don't see why they would make any excuses for her.

EmeraldShamrock · 03/09/2021 20:32

I'm glad piers was challenged.
There was definitely racism used on/against Meghan however "drum roll" if the trailer is real Meghan lies under a crashed car for escaping the Palace I've lost any respect I had for her and wouldn't defend her again.

Millicentsparty · 03/09/2021 20:35

Honestly, all of them, PM, PH and MM, must be three of the most boring, self-obssessed, self-important, tedious people going. If they all floated off an iceberg together, I couldn't find it in myself to care. But they all have a right to an opinion and, within the law, to express it. And I have a right not to look or to listen. For those of you who are really incensed about any of this, maybe you should just switch off.

EmeraldShamrock · 03/09/2021 20:37
Escaping the Palace trailer. Shock
Earlydancing · 03/09/2021 20:38

Public demand? Who were the public who demanded that? I love the royal family and I never heard anyone demand they have a big wedding. All public commentary I heard was condemnation of the cost!
