@MaMelon

NOT IN A FORMAL SENSE IT ISN'T. She knew perfectly well what the difference was - they weren't married 3 days prior, they exchanged vows privately. She's a consummate communicator, she knew exactly what she was saying.

Your claims of racism are becoming really tedious. Is that really all you've got at this stage?

Of course she knew not in a formal sense! That's what I'VE BEEN SAYING ALL ALONG! She used the term because THAT IS WHAT IT'S CALLED IN HER CULTURE!

It is so tedious that posters are still so willfully racist that I have to KEEP using the term!

FreddyKreugersWife · 03/09/2021 15:02

@Janiiejones

But Freddy you are missing the important bit, context. They didn't just say they'd exchanged vows or got married, they said they'd got 'married' 3 days before the 'public spectacle'. Kind of suggesting we'd all been hoodwinked.

Just agree to disagree! You think it was an innocent comment, most of know they were suggesting we'd all been fooled.

I've no idea why anyone can still defend this pair. I mean Harry going on about anti vaxxers being brainwashed by the media when the mainstream media are all actually pro vax. He makes a tit of himself every time he opens his mouth.

No I'm not missing the context, you are. There is nothing wrong with what she said. She simply was blunt, that's all. Of course a formal wedding is a spectacle, certainly that sort of public wedding they had. It was. We all knew it. She simply said what we all knew. I don't get the outcry.

A lot of the media in America are anti vax. Anyone who has followed American news knows this. So what he said was correct, as far as the American media (mainstream and non-mainstream) goes.

MaMelon · 03/09/2021 15:03

No it isn't!!! You keep making that up - her Californian background means she is perfectly well aware of the difference between a private exchange of vows and marriage because there is a clear difference there too.

And while we're on the subject of making stuff up - crying 'racists' doesn't mean it's true, it's just an offensive term you're bandying about which makes you look ignorant. You don't have to keep using the term and if you genuinely think someone is being racist then you know the drill - report.

Blossomtoes · 03/09/2021 15:04

Her culture is Californian show business so I don’t know how that works. 🤷‍♀️

MaMelon · 03/09/2021 15:04

Actually - I'll help you out here. Point to the racist comments and we can both report.

Yes she is perfectly well aware of the difference between a private exchange of vows aka marriage, and a LEGAL marriage. That's WHAT I'VE BEEN SAYING ALL ALONG! She knows there is a LEGAL difference.

However BOTH can, and are, still referred to as.....marriage. Just one is legal, the other isn't. Is that clearer to you now?

The fact you cannot understand that there is legal marriage AND a non-legal marriage makes you look ignorant - and racist. So I will keep calling it out for what it is. Either wilful ignorance, or racism. One or the other. You choose.

Denying that marriage has two definitions in other cultures is racist. Denying that there is any definition other than the UK definition is racist. Clear and simple.
ohtobeyoungagain · 03/09/2021 15:08

Does this 'California background' discount her 'Black background'. ?

Just asking as I knew a fourth generation black family in Cali. As American as (black) American Pie, and one of the girls fashioned herself as Beyonce. They most certainly followed some of what I recognised to be Haitian and West African traditions, right down to one of the marriages.

The holding on to ignorance on MN is worse than the ignorance itself.

SueSaid · 03/09/2021 15:10

Freddy. There isn't an 'outcry. You are being corrected that is all, they didn't get married before they got married and that is being highlighted.

He was making a 'speech' at the UK awards though wasn't he? British man of the year award infact. Surely the 1st rule of public speaking is to know your audience. Wtf has US media got to do with anything in this country.

No, the UK media aren't anti vax at all. Maybe he could wang about the US media when he's appearing there?

His award was to the creators of a Vaccine, so quit relevant all over the world.

No, you are the one that is being corrected. There are TWO definitions of marriage. Legal, and non-legal. They consider they were 'married' by their private exchange of vows beforehand. Therefore, they were married. It really is that simple and it's only wilful ignorance, and/or racism that means you won't accept a black woman explaining the non-UK reality to you.
SueSaid · 03/09/2021 15:15

Yes the award was to creators of the vaccine but his audience was the uk where the media aren't anti vax! Harry must do something about the mahoosive media chip on his shoulder.

MaMelon · 03/09/2021 15:15

Are you accusing me of racism? If so, I trust you have you reported my post?

SueSaid · 03/09/2021 15:16

You keep saying it is racist Freddy but it isn't.

They both had an agenda with their OW overshare.

WinTheNight · 03/09/2021 15:18

I know 3 couples who class their wedding date as a date before the legal bit. They have that date on photo frames, one has a tattoo of the date for example. I don’t see the problem. Meghan obviously sees it like that so she referred to it as getting married.

Piers is obsessed. He bullies women like Meghan. He’s done it to Simone and Naomi too.

The ruling was only what it was because apparently the other presenters challenged him and showed an opposing view.

Now he’s saying, let’s think of the Queens mental health. This from the phone hacking man. I would imagine he’s affected a lot of people’s mental health in a negative way over the years and doesn’t care less. The mans a narcissist. The people I know who like him in real life are the ones that are either racist or just quite unpleasant people themselves.

I’m not a particular supporter of Harry and Meghan or the RF but I absolutely hate bullies and that’s what Piers is.

It seems your agenda is to dislike them and therefor assume the worst, even when you are wrong about cultural terms.

Of course I dislike them, I dislike Morgan too. All as bad as each other. Demanding the right to say what they like then waaaahing on when anyone challenges them. Pathetic.

WinTheNight · 03/09/2021 15:27

I can't stand him but he's entitled to an opinion.

He is. On TV however that has to be balanced by an opposing view. The ruling found it was which is fair enough. I don’t think it takes into account that Piers Morgan’s opinion would unfortunately hold more weight than other presenter. However, the rulings been made.

He’s shown himself and is still showing himself as a complete bully though. The princess Pinocchio name calling, whipping people up on twitter, he even tried to make out that the report didn’t say that the ruling was made only because there was an opposing view. The only reason his rant was ‘ok’ was because other presenters challenged him.

WinTheNight · 03/09/2021 15:31

Demanding the right to say what they like then waaaahing on when anyone challenges them. Pathetic.

It’s how he’s done it. He’s launched a bullying long campaign to get the nation to hate her. That’s not just him challenging them. It was daily for a long, long time.

WinTheNight · 03/09/2021 15:32

And he’s still going. The man doesn’t know when to stop.

luckylavender · 03/09/2021 15:32

I think you can dislike Morgan but be pleased about this ruling. And also believe MM lied and not be a racist. You can also not like either of them. Anyone who thinks I hold racist views, please report me.

Absolutely this.
