@luckylavender

You keep asking to be reported for racism, comfortable in the knowledge that you avoided the trap of name calling etc. But make no mistake, most people are not fooled about your dog-whistling, least of all people of colour.

Why don't you just report yourself.

Alwaysfuckingsick · 03/09/2021 15:41

@Samcro

that is a shame, the man is a creep.
Agree
luckylavender · 03/09/2021 15:41

@ohtobeyoungagain - it's the first time I've mentioned it.

Blossomtoes · 03/09/2021 15:44

Why don't you just report yourself.

There’s nothing to report. Accusations of racism have been thrown round this thread like confetti yet there are no deletions. Either MNHQ is asleep at the wheel or nobody’s found any racism to report.

WinTheNight · 03/09/2021 15:45

And I’m not sure how much Piers should be celebrating. The ruling called his comments potentially harmful to viewers. I guess he’s ok with harming people though as he’s made a career of it.

WinTheNight · 03/09/2021 15:48

People can become very skilled at keeping within talk guidelines, especially those who may have certain views. It’s ok though because by these comments being left on, people get to see exactly what’s going on.

DottyHarmer · 03/09/2021 15:54

This is ridiculous.

The ruling said that all things considered to rule against PM would have “chilling” implications. I dislike PM, but he has the right to speak, just as Meghan and indeed Harry do. And, when people speak, others are entitled to question what they say or denounce it as a load of twaddle.

Blossomtoes · 03/09/2021 15:54

Racism is racism. If you’re going to accuse people of It, perhaps stop making those accusations if talk guidelines haven’t been breached. And report if they have.

Namechangetimeagain · 03/09/2021 15:56

This thread has disintegrated into an(other) anti Meghan thread. The Ofcom decision was NOT judging Meghan or what she said. It was assessing whether Morgan should have expressed such views in a TV news programme.

On balance, they concluded it was a finely balanced decision and ITV were not sanctioned because the programme also had strong voices to push back against Morgan and counter his views.

Piers alongside the media, has gaslit all of us.

I'll repost.

There are always accusations of racism whenever negative views about MM are expressed. There’s no doubt that there has been some racism, which sadly isn’t surprising. The monkey jibes about Archie being an obvious example of this.

But some of the hostility is because of her being American; it isn’t all that different from the reaction against Wallis Simpson. It’s also because she’s a celebrity in her own right and speaks her mind, I suspect.

Who are these “people”? If you’re going to make such a serious allegation then name names and report - don’t hide behind vague statements and baseless claims in an attempt to shut down discussion. Own them.

I’ve made no allegations, just observations from various forums and social media.
People = posters on forums and social media

Piers alongside the media, has gaslit all of us.

He's certainly tried. Sounds not dissimilar to Trump shrieking 'Rah, rah, rah, I WON!' even after the decisive swing states returned final counts indicating exactly the opposite. Amounts to 'Your reality isn't what you see right at the end of your nose, it's what I tell you it is, despite all evidence to the contrary'.

Why this ploy isn't absolutely transparent and can't be seen from a mile away is a rather more worrying question.

'Don't contradict me or you are racist' is also a line of argument I'll be bypassing. No one can have a civilised discussion on those terms.

whatthejiggeries · 03/09/2021 16:08

@Lockheart I disagree. Feeling like you have to keep quiet and not be able to voice your opinion because you might get fired for having one is limiting freedom of speech, particularly in the media

MaMelon · 03/09/2021 16:09

Nice try Win.

Let's say we're talking about these comments that are being left on - which ones in particular from your observations might come from people with certain views who skilled at keeping within talk guidelines on this particular forum?

Y'know, the actual racist ones.

Blossomtoes · 03/09/2021 16:12

Very succinct and absolutely spot on.

mustlovegin · 03/09/2021 16:13

Tedious for trying to educate some who are determined not to understand that different cultures have different vernacular and turn of phrase

Freddy the word marriage has the same meaning in the USA and in the UK

Anyone who got married twice would know fairly well what the word 'marriage' means, don't you think?

DottyHarmer · 03/09/2021 16:22

Saying Meghan didn’t know about the marriage rules is making her out to be a nitwit, which she definitely is not. Her fans on this thread are shooting their argument in the foot by accidentally implying so.

WinTheNight · 03/09/2021 16:23

Why would I name the people who I think may be racist, but have stayed within talk guidelines, just. That seems like a very silly thing to do and a way of me getting deleted as I’m also aware of talk guidelines.

By a combination of seeing posts which are staying just within talk guidelines and also making use of the advanced search to look at posting history, I suppose it’s possible people feel they can get a good feel for people’s views.

mustlovegin · 03/09/2021 16:24

And anyway, this thread is about anyone's right to publicly say that they are not prepared to take what someone else is saying at face value

Nothing to do whether someone actually lied or not, that's irrelevant

Viviennemary · 03/09/2021 16:25

If a person is confused and thought they were already married in a previous ceremony then the validity of the actual legal marriage could be questioned.

CathyorClaire · 03/09/2021 16:33

I know 3 couples who class their wedding date as a date before the legal bit. They have that date on photo frames, one has a tattoo of the date for example. I don’t see the problem.

Not a problem at all when they're footing the bill themselves.

Almighty PR problem when a tax-payer funded bloated circus is casually dismissed as not the real deal.

Hdhdjejdj · 03/09/2021 16:35

I liked MM to begin with and thought she would do a huge amount of good for the UK. Gradually I started to have my doubts. I am a believer in the saying, if someone shows you who they are, believe them. She is estranged from her father and siblings, a lot of her old friends, the people who helped her when her first came to the UK (including PM) and now her brother in law, sister in law, father in law and the Queen. Harry is estranged from his brother and sister in law who he was once very close to and many of his lifelong friends. A lot of people in the US now despise the UK because they think we are all racist. The Obamas have distanced themselves from her. And yet, she says she wants to spread compassion. It’s hard not to think she is the common denominator in all of this.

What's also silly is throwing around vague accusations of racism when none exist. Of course, you don't have to name names - you could report but I doubt you'd get far as there isn't an actual racist post on here, just a difference of opinion.
WinTheNight · 03/09/2021 16:43

But there are some posters with views that I can choose to believe are racist, based on what’s they’ve written on here and previous threads. I’m free to have that opinion as you are free to have yours.
I wouldn’t ask for them to be deleted because I can see they’ve stayed in talk guidelines. Also I think it’s good that the views are left on so that people can see what others really stand for.
I haven’t accused anyone in particular of racism, but I am free to think someone is racist.
