To find it irritating when people refer to their child as “letter” only?

Am I the only one that finds this irritating?

So if my child was called Henry I’d refer to him in messages as “H”. I don’t see the point in shortening.. my whole NCT group does it, I find it bizarre when the name won’t take long to write!? Just me?

Somewhat like DC on here Wink

Bumblenums1234 · 30/08/2021 19:08

Ah I do it, no idea why just habit

SunbathingDragon · 30/08/2021 19:08

I think you must have little going on in your life that is irritating if that bothers you.

Hyppogriff · 30/08/2021 19:09

I do it

PieMaster · 30/08/2021 19:10

I don't mind it any more than a nickname.

MichelleScarn · 30/08/2021 19:10

It's their initial? Whys it annoy you so much?

maxineputyourredshoeson · 30/08/2021 19:11

I do it as do most of the people I know.

malmi · 30/08/2021 19:11

"NCT"? Do you mean the National Childbirth Trust?

Bookaholic73 · 30/08/2021 19:11

It doesn’t bother me at all. Honestly, I refer to my kids as L and A all the time, just to shorten the typing.

freelions · 30/08/2021 19:11

But the full name will take longer to type

Can you honestly type Elizabeth as quickly as E?

xyzandabc · 30/08/2021 19:12

It is quicker. How does A, B, C, take as long to write as Arabella, Bertie and Charlie?

LukeEvansWife · 30/08/2021 19:13

When messaging my friend about specific people —boss— I always use his initial as it’s quicker and less likely to be identified

Notlostjustexploring · 30/08/2021 19:14

It irritates me too, but I accept it's just me being irritable as I think it's a practice that is probably as old as the written word.

Nonetheless it still annoys me...

ATieLikeRichardGere · 30/08/2021 19:14

I can’t stand this! It comes across somehow as self absorbed. It probably isn’t but that’s how it reads to me.

BlusteryLake · 30/08/2021 19:14

I am with you OP. I find it irritating too, not particularly sure why. Especially if you're in a group with people whose children are called Harriet, Henry and Hugo 😂. Those were three of the names in my NCT group, very confusing.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 30/08/2021 19:15

Depends on whether or not I can be bothered to type full names. I only do it with people who know exactly who I’m referring to anyway and I don’t just do it with my DDs’ names.

Ah yes, maybe that's why it's annoying.

😂
MirandaWest · 30/08/2021 19:17

I refer to mine as A and B quite often.

IWasBornInAThunderstorm · 30/08/2021 19:18

I just assumed it's always been that way from the days text messages and twitter had low text limits

Cookiecrumblepie · 30/08/2021 19:18

I loathe it. Especially when people sign off their emails as N and I’m not sure who that is. Unless you know them really well, I think it’s odd to assume everyone will know precisely who you are referring to.

Karwomannghia · 30/08/2021 19:18

Mines a G, we called her baby G when she was a baby and it stuck sometimes. Some letters sounds better than others- my older two are never initials only!

pinkcattydude · 30/08/2021 19:18

If it’s a baby group I guarantee by time they are adults they will be called by many things worse than their initial.

Sirzy · 30/08/2021 19:18

I picked a name for DS that couldn’t be shortened but then I discovered that locally the name is often shortened to H. Although I never call him that to his face I do use it when writing now sometimes
