Let me explain. I need a new measuring jug. The measures have been washed off my glass ones and my plastic one is not easy to read. They're cheap yet I have been struggling for about 2 years and never really sure I've measured correctly meaning some failed bread and the odd annoyance most days. Why haven't o bought one? I fear it's symptomatic of other flaws
Tell me yours and make me feel less of a weirdo

@PinkyAndALurkyPerky

A mascara, just one from the supermarket, but no, everyday I pump the old one to get every last frigging drop from it
This is me too! I’m not even sure there’s any liquid left actually; my DDs watch me ‘apply’ it as if I’m mad.

I agree about towels. I can’t bring myself to buy new ones when our older ones are still serviceable (albeit a bit worse for wear now).

Moonshine5 · 23/08/2021 22:11

Agree 100%
Way over-rated

A sieve, my husband used the old one to sieve paint last year, and now I am sieve-less

Hellotoallmyfans · 23/08/2021 22:11

Oh, I'm like this with loads of things. The main thing that comes to mind is new pyjamas and underwear. I wear lovely clothes most of the time and spend a lot of money on them but I HATE spending money on underwear and pyjamas. Mine all have holes in/are discoloured.

I detest spending money on "boring" everyday things, that's the problem.

GrrrlPwr · 23/08/2021 22:12

Beer2bed buy the spray mop! A million times better than scrubbing the floor!

Peoniesandpeaches · 23/08/2021 22:12

RyanReynoldsHusband they become miles better if you replace the bottom pads with reusable microfibre ones (though I know for some that defeats the purpose of them).

NoProblem123 · 23/08/2021 22:12

My clothes airer is like the leaning tower of Pisa due to the amount of times is fallen over in the wind and buckled.
I use it a lot and have no line.

Keep swerving the new investment - no idea why !

@aworldofourown

A land yard! I only just ordered one a few weeks ago, it took me 10 years!!!!!!! No kidding!! It's only a couple of quid. Was just one of those things I put off, I'd add to basket and forget to checkout or think I'll do it later. I told everyone about the land yard after it arrived, only took 10 years
A what
viques · 23/08/2021 22:15

A new baking tray. My old one is so manky I have to cover it with foil or baking parchment every time I use it. The cost of the baking parchment and foil would probably have paid for a new one several times.

And hands up, I am another one with a measuring jug that has lost its markings , well, that’s not quite true, 200ml is just about visible, so I do other measurement by eye depending on their relationship to 200ml.

GrrrlPwr · 23/08/2021 22:16

Vileida spray mop, the whole handle length is filled with any floor cleaner. Extra washable heads on Amazon actually better than the original ones. Clean one on each day. End of week do a mops wash. Fab

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 23/08/2021 22:16

The most awful blunt nail scissors ever, and a lot of truly grotty old tea towels.

Moonshine5 · 23/08/2021 22:18

@MelbourneTerrace

This is me, thank you. My kinda people...I even spend ages researching the things I want - and still don't buy.

I was impressed in our 'luxury' holiday home with the quality of the items...the beauty of someone else's choices and expense.
This time the tin opener...just WOW - the ease of use - like 'cutting butter' - as against mine that is similar to using a blunt scissors and needs others to turn for me.

I expected the holiday home version would be a fortune - found it online, delighted and amazed with £7.00 - read about it, available to buy ... and haven't.

Thank you @MelbourneTerrace howling with "cutting butter" ...."£7.00 available to buy and haven't'Grin
Mommybunny · 23/08/2021 22:18

@PinkyAndALurkyPerky Please do replace your mascara if it’s more than six months old. Mascara is such a breeding ground for bacteria and you don’t want an eye infection.

youdoyoutoday · 23/08/2021 22:18

@Beer2bed

A flash mop! Walk past it every week in the supermarket and just cant bring myself to buy it. Spend ages each week on my hands and knees cleaning the kitchen and bathroom floors thinking I should have bought the mop.....and then I dont! It's crazy.
Don't waste your money, it's shite and the pads dry out so quick!! I honestly thought it would revolutionise my world cleaning wise, I'm so disappointed and wish I got a spray mop!

I bought some new pjs in Tesco’s today , they were either £8 or £10.00 , one was euros and one was pounds and I can’t remember which! At least one of my other pairs is filled with holes and knowing my luck would be the pair I would be wearing should I ever need to be removed from my house by paramedics.
mafted · 23/08/2021 22:19

A new toothbrush.

Previously we put up with a holey cutlery basket in the dishwasher for about 18 months, getting annoyed when things fell through it. I finally bought a new one for £3.99 all was right for a couple of weeks then the dishwasher packed up Grin

lannistunut · 23/08/2021 22:21

New cooker knobs, spent ages swapping them back and forth. A full set was only £12 Hmm

Quinque · 23/08/2021 22:21

Not a cheap thing, but I do need a smartphone. I've got a non smartphone, a tiny thing that a friend gave me about 6 years ago when my old phone broke. I keep researching phones and trying to choose one that will last and be easy to use, I get bogged down by reviews I can't undestand and features I don't need. Then I finally decide on one only to find it's been discontinued and replaced by a newer model.
More in the spirit of the thread, my kitchen bowl scraper thing is split and floppy, but most of them are angled for right handers, I need one to suit a lefty.Hmm

sadeyedladyofthelowlandsea · 23/08/2021 22:21

A tray for the cutlery drawer. I still line everything up as knives, forks, spoons, teaspoons, when I put them in the drawer, but they leap about, so it's just a tangled sea of metal.

It would probably cost me £1 to buy the cheapest plasticky cutlery sorter from the charity shop 3 minutes away, but in the 5yrs I've been living here I haven't managed it.

Marmite17 · 23/08/2021 22:23

Various bits and pieces from a DIY store: an S shaped hook to put up a bird nesting box, picture hanging strips, grouting tool. Think this is partly due to putting off the jobs said items are needed for. Also more boxes for cube storage; would need to put together another unit to use them!

Thecazelets · 23/08/2021 22:23

Some of my tea towels are 26 years old. I put clean ones out every day, but they all look absolutely awful, stained and full of holes, particularly as I have never been able to stop DH using them to wipe the worktops. And all our hand and bath towels are thin and scratchy, and all at least 20 years old. We could easily afford to scrap the lot and start again with fluffy new ones, but I can't quite bring myself to do it. It feels wicked and frivolous somehow.

Lysianthus · 23/08/2021 22:23

@ASatisfyingThump

A new laundry basket, one of those small round ones for carrying the clothes. DS2 fell on it and broke it about 3 months ago and I'm still using it! They're dirt cheap, I can easily afford it, but I just can't seem to get around to buying a new one.
Me too! It’s the throwing away such a large amount of plastic that gets me!
giggly · 23/08/2021 22:25

@Beer2bed I was the same but bought one on Sunday 20 quid , I’ve mopped more in the last two days than the last two years.
Mine is measuring cups as well, can’t bloody read them

BrightYellowDaffodil · 23/08/2021 22:25

A spatula. The old plastic one melted a long time ago and the end fell off the old wooden one. I’m fed up of using every other damn kitchen implement in place of a spatula so why the fuck don’t I just buy some new ones?

monkeysox · 23/08/2021 22:26

I love my flash power mop. In fact I just replaced one!
I need one of those foot scrub things.
I definitely need more of those little plastic things full of pegs for hanging undies. Don't know why I've put it off
