Let me explain. I need a new measuring jug. The measures have been washed off my glass ones and my plastic one is not easy to read. They're cheap yet I have been struggling for about 2 years and never really sure I've measured correctly meaning some failed bread and the odd annoyance most days. Why haven't o bought one? I fear it's symptomatic of other flaws
Tell me yours and make me feel less of a weirdo

Oven mitts.. my old pair have holes and have to be careful to dodge the threadbare bits so I don't burn my hands again!

ShinyHappySummers · 28/08/2021 03:44

@StarryStarrySocks

A new roller blind for the bedroom. It's broken so you can't roll it up with the cord. So every morning I stand up on a stool to roll it up by hand from the top. Hmm
I have this issue in 2 rooms! 🙄😱😂
danadas · 28/08/2021 19:20

Bear is an ever shedding lab and instead of going with the easy option and putting his bedding in a laundry bag, I instead choose to try and scoop all the leftover hair out the machine whilst repeating to myself 'Defo going to order a laundry bag soon' Grin

polkadotpjs · 28/08/2021 20:25

@AliensEverywhere yes. This is why I got it come to think of it. I may divide into metal and wood utensils.

@Shedbuilder

Those Klippit things for sealing open bags of coffee and pasta and nuts and seeds. We used to have loads of them and over the years they've gone and I've improvised with clothes pegs, which fall off the packs and allow the contents to leak.

I've googled them a few times on Lakeland and gone 'whoa' when I've seen they're £13, plus p+p and they sell them in packs of 48. I can't believe they're charging that much for a few bits of plastic and I only need half that number, so I put them in the 'I can live without that' category. But they're useful and I can afford £13. I probably need to talk to a psychotherapist about it!

Look up ikea food clips xx ebay have Them

@Orla1970

Oh yeah just remembered. Batteries for remote controls. For about a year I’ve been taking the batteries out the telly remote and warming them in my hands and putting them back in. Between my husband and I we literally have an Amazon delivery most days yet new batteries escape us both x
I put all our batteries in a plastic take out box. The AA, the AAA, CR2032 and teeny tiny ones I can't remember their name or what they're for. They live with a box of pens.

Home bargains do a Hairy Bikers ceramic non-stick frying pan. It's deep sided, wok-like, not flat but it's excellent and so easy to clean

BarbaraofSeville · 31/08/2021 05:50

Something like 20 years ago, a little clip that acted like a hinge for a flap in the fridge freezer broke and I didn't buy a new one because it was £7 and I was a bit skint and it seemed like such a huge amount of money for a tiny crappy item.

We still have that fridge freezer and have struggled for TWENTY YEARS with things falling out that should be held back by the missing flap and every time it happens I regret not buying it.

A lesson to you all. Buy the cheap thing now. Smile

BarbaraofSeville · 31/08/2021 07:46

@Toooldforthis321

A plastic storage box for the pool to be stored in. The reason why: the size I need has turned out to be not so cheap 🙄
Finally caught up with the rest of the thread. I know it was a few days ago, but I'm confused by this @Toooldforthis321, as I thought 'no wonder a tub to put a pool in is expensive, it must be massive'.

Or is it yet another autocorrect? Although I am a bit Hmm at all the faux naivety about the Land Yard. Surely everyone knows that that poster meant? BTW, if anyone does find themselves short of a lanyard, I seem to acquire them from all over the place, even though I never actively seek them out.

Perhaps I should start another thread 'what cheap items do you save even though they become annoying clutter that you should just throw away but feel too guilty to do so'.

But all of you with knackered baking tray guilt, no need. You put them in the metals recycling skip at the tip, no landfill required.
**@Riolou3* @Beer2bed* get the Lakeland spray mop, it's saved me SO much time. Anyone I've told about it is now obsessed too! www.lakeland.co.uk/24523/Lakeland-Hard-Floor-Spray-Mop
Thank you - ordered! Grin

Cavementality · 31/08/2021 09:14

New underwear! Every morning I promise myself that I'll buy new ones but I never do as my old ones are very comfortable!

Yesitsbess · 31/08/2021 09:36

I bought some the other day because of this thread and then...promptly lost the entire packet during unpacking?

I'd also like you all to know I walked past a reasonably priced mop. Right by the tills. Whilst I was in a long queue and had plenty of time to think about it. It was 9.99

Pray for me.

blueshoes · 31/08/2021 10:08

For food clips, I use bulldog clips. You can get them in different sizes and have dual use as stationery to hold papers together for my WFH work. They can also function as clothes pegs.

Haha! I use these as the pastic stuff doesn't hold well or last and adds to pollution problem. Those bulldog clips hold tough thick materials well.
PeanutCat1 · 31/08/2021 11:23

Baking beans! I've wanted some for years but have never gotten round to buying any. I always curse myself when I have to faff around with lentils Grin. I finally bought some at the weekend as I saw them in a cookware shop and I'm so happy with them.

Curlywurlyswirly · 31/08/2021 11:37

Any links to a spray mop and replacement heads please. This thread had piqued my interest.

Wexone · 31/08/2021 12:03

@Curlywurlyswirly i bought this one. Got it on offer. You can throw the head in the washing machine and use any spray in the top part .

sueelleker · 31/08/2021 17:00

@BarbaraofSeville. I took it to mean an inflatable pool.

icedcoffees · 31/08/2021 17:20

Teaspoons.

I have no idea where all ours have gone, but we only have two left in the drawer. They cost about £2 for five, but I still live in hope I'll find the missing ones somewhere Grin

NorthernSoul55 · 31/08/2021 17:42

We struggled with a crap tin opener for about a year, using a combination of tin opener, knife and a thingy on OHs penknife. When I got covered in tinned tomatoes using this method I bought another, chucking the old one in the bin. OH has today removed it declaring that there's nothing wrong with it and it has been saved as a spare. He has form for this, God help me.....

slug · 31/08/2021 17:56

I have found my people!

We still use the kitchen cloth that was here before I moved in with DH over 20 years ago. It's full of holes and would probably cost 50p to replace.

Dogoodfeelgood · 31/08/2021 18:38

Love these. I read once a good tip which was to make the things you use every day really lovely and fix the issues that cause you pain each day, the pay off for getting these small and often cheap things right is so much more than getting the luxury infrequently used things right. Eg our bedroom door has a god awful juddering sound when being opened or closed, which would probably take 10 mins to sort and yet we have spent the last 2 years waking each other up with the door sound whenever someone needs to open it to go to the bathroom,

pussycatlickinglollyices · 31/08/2021 19:08

@LadyJaye

Not cheap as such, but a new hoover.

I'm in a hate/hate relationship with our Dyson, but out of spite, I'm going to keep using it until it dies.

The fucking thing is apparently immortal, though: I may have to throw it out of a window.

DH...Is that you? I didn't know you were on here...😂

It's the non-bending power lead that will finally cause it to go to the tip. That and it's ability to fall over if you so much as look at the stupid sucky bastard.

ImFree2doasiwant · 31/08/2021 19:10

Plug chain for the bathroom sink.
