Let me explain. I need a new measuring jug. The measures have been washed off my glass ones and my plastic one is not easy to read. They're cheap yet I have been struggling for about 2 years and never really sure I've measured correctly meaning some failed bread and the odd annoyance most days. Why haven't o bought one? I fear it's symptomatic of other flaws
Tell me yours and make me feel less of a weirdo

@polkadotpjs

Sony serious IKEA list is garlic press, frying pan (but which?), bowls and plates to replace those I've chipped, new fish slice - why do we call it that? I mean a flipper thing for frying pan, storage boxes/ shelf and drawer organiser , scissors, freezer bags, bath mat Anything else OMG- the bloody measuring jug. I'll forget won't i? I think I'm broken
The big one with the glass lid.

@Iminaglasscaseofemotion

Salt shaker. Ive needed one for about 5 years. We all use the plastic one the salt comes in. Which ds 13 seems incapable of using so I have to say his chips everytime! No idea why I don't just buy one!
I just got the Asda salt and pepper set for £1. Nice and retro.
Meraas · 26/08/2021 21:51

Mine is a meat thermometer. Never had one, having been thinking about it for years.

Yesitsbess · 26/08/2021 21:54

@Meraas

Do it. DO IT! I have an old dial style one and a fancy digital one. Much prefer the dial myself but they are a boon.

11/10 would recommend.

Meraas · 26/08/2021 22:09

Will do! Which one do you have?

polkadotpjs · 26/08/2021 22:23

@Meraas yes! I need one of these too. I melted mine. Good shout

@MakeMathsFun the OXO good grips can openers are brilliant. I've had two in the past 20 years? Both brilliant. www.robertdyas.co.uk/oxo-good-grips-can-opener?gclid=CjwKCAjwmqKJBhAWEiwAMvGt6PuzJYfdb4NfsWtYbzBFoupnsUGNH_WCHOhbPi1jcoXLFbBwOmxwIxoCoRwQAvD_BwE

A new wooden spoon

Delphinium90 · 27/08/2021 12:40

Mega thanks!!!

I still use the Boots baby feed measuring jug we bought for making up our DD's bottles 36 years ago.Most of the measuring scale down the side has long since worn off,but it's still really useful in the kitchen.I could never,ever replace it!

polkadotpjs · 27/08/2021 16:51

I've just been to IKEA. Child 1 had hungry meltdown but I did manage to spend £50 on stuff. Including..... fanfare please....a measuring jug. But it's not right. It's Lilliputian (well smaller than my old one) but it's here and I can measure up to 500ml again. Hurrah. Other purchases less successful and I may start a new thread asking for uses for the cutlery pot I panic bought. (I already have one but saw someone had two and thought "mm I need two too". I don't think I do

This is why I don't go to Ikea. I come home with lots of things that seemed useful while I'm inside Ikea and lose their appeal the second I get home. Ikea's responsible for a massive amount of tat and waste.

Yesitsbess · 27/08/2021 21:41

@polkadotpjs if you don't have altogether too many candle holders aswell then I am disappointed.

Also WTF is a cutlery pot? Is it like a salt pig?

ConsuelaHammock · 27/08/2021 22:11

A garlic press

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 27/08/2021 22:23

For ages I wouldn’t buy a decent length extension lead for the garden, to mow the lawn. Kept taking all the short extension leads from around the house and running them together as I didn’t want to spend the money! Have finally got one now though.

A measuring jug is the sort of thing I’d do this with too!

Quitelikeacatslife · 27/08/2021 23:11

not the point of the thread OP but I'd get some scales that measured liquids, (aquatronic) essential for baking Smile

PeaAndHamSoupFromAChicken · 27/08/2021 23:45

I remembered to stock up batteries for our smoke alarms today thanks to this post. I'm not sure I would have remembered otherwise.

danadas · 27/08/2021 23:50

I actually have a 'shit I need but can't be arsed to buy list'. The whole lot would probably only come to about £20...

To ask what cheap item you keep putting off buying?
Cupcakey · 27/08/2021 23:55

Clothes pegs 😆

OK, I need to know what the Bear is wearing that requires its own laundry bag?
Cbd333 · 28/08/2021 00:35

@Riolou3 @Beer2bed get the Lakeland spray mop, it's saved me SO much time. Anyone I've told about it is now obsessed too! www.lakeland.co.uk/24523/Lakeland-Hard-Floor-Spray-Mop

AliensEverywhere · 28/08/2021 03:12

A new set of kitchen scales. Prob cost £10, keep converting to cups and using measuring cups/spoons.

Is it one of those big jar thingies you stuff with the extra long utensils that won't fit in the drawer?

I could do with two of those, mine is a bit tight getting things in and out of so I always end up pulling a load of extra wooden spoons out by accident
