Let me explain. I need a new measuring jug. The measures have been washed off my glass ones and my plastic one is not easy to read. They're cheap yet I have been struggling for about 2 years and never really sure I've measured correctly meaning some failed bread and the odd annoyance most days. Why haven't o bought one? I fear it's symptomatic of other flaws
Tell me yours and make me feel less of a weirdo

StarryStarrySocks

Been in this predicament for 6 months. FINALLY ordered a new one after a friend drove past and saw me stood on a chair winding it up by hand and massively took the piss.

SeoultoSeoul · 24/08/2021 20:36

Nail brush.
Egg rings (to make perfectly round fried eggs).

Appleofmyeye05 · 24/08/2021 20:44

A frying pan. I threw my old one away to replace with a £5 B&M one which was my first mistake now I’m in the same position but wishing I kept the original pan as this one just burns everything!

CostaBlancaChica · 24/08/2021 20:45

Loads of things; a USB, a new frying pan, highlighter pens, a new ruler, hairbands, knickers, nail file, some bluetack...I do this all the time, until I need so many little things, it actually becomes expensive!!

kennycat · 24/08/2021 20:52

I battled on with a tin opener that made me sweat blue murder every time I used it. Eventually I gave in and bought a new (not at all pricey) one. Now I almost cry when I encounter a tin with a ring pull because I don’t get to use the life-changing device!
It’s official.
We are all lunatics.

coodawoodashooda · 24/08/2021 20:54

You've all made me buy new pants!

torchh · 24/08/2021 20:55

Kitchen towel rail. Needed one for about 7 years now.

My husband earns 6 figures. What is wrong with us?

Turningintoastalker · 24/08/2021 20:56

@Cynderella Just looked at your razor link - gosh that took me back, I remember Mum having one of those in the 70’s!

Thanks to this thread I’m now awaiting delivery of a new washing up bowl and drainer, a little bin thing to put the used teabags/coffee packets/general bits of kitchen detritus in and a previously unidentified, but now met need of Pyrex baking trays that I can stick in the dishwasher (rather than curse every time that I didn’t wash the tray properly after it was last used as I didn’t get round to it). Ta!

polkadotpjs · 24/08/2021 20:57

I'm off to IKEA on Friday. I'm buying:
Measuring jug (hurrah!)
Bags
Garlic press
Drawer dividers
Small storage boxes
Shelf risers if they do them
Scissors
Meatballs
Oh and more dessert and teaspoons
What else do I need?

I am terrible for putting off buying something like a new bra for £20 for months because it's too much.

Then dropping £80 on a completely unplanned lunchtime shopping spree and coming home without the bra I actually need 🙈

Cynderella · 24/08/2021 21:03

I like Ikea's roasting tins, knives, bag clips, set of plastic fork, whisk, slice etc for cooking, tealights, napkins (we don't use kitchen roll and Ikea cotton napkins are cheap and wash well), white cotton sheets ... glasses, plates, bowls ... plants, vases ... I love Ikea!

Bookloverjay · 24/08/2021 21:13

I agree Flash mops are rubbish.

mcmooberry · 24/08/2021 21:29

I bought some night dresses from Primark to use for when I was in hospital having my first child and I have been using them for the last 12 years. I finally put one in the fabric recycling last month but the other one is practically threadbare but still can't bring myself to buy a new one (and not for any sentimental reasons either).

Dragonsmother · 24/08/2021 21:33

Oven gloves Grin
We keep saying we need new oven gloves. No matter how many times we go to the shops we walk straight pass the aisle Blush

MrsKJones · 24/08/2021 21:36

Ikea cotton napkins......... ooh I feel an IKEA trip coming

baffledcoconut · 24/08/2021 21:41

@SheSaidHummingbird

The def do- ours has a little clothing section with a few kids bits (mainly underwear and night clothes and baby grows), knickers socks and tights.

They are the best knickers ever.

Yesitsbess · 24/08/2021 21:45

I am feeling the need to do some kind of oven glove air drop to various MNers after reading this thread.

Including myself Blush

rosegoldwatcher · 24/08/2021 21:46

We frequently, and randomly, think about our 'wants' but only consider our 'needs' at the point of use.

So I only realize that I need a working can opener when making a tuna melt. Then it goes out of my head, until the next time.

Just off to write, 'can opener' on the shopping list.

Cynderella · 24/08/2021 21:56

I've gone through loads of oven gloves and cloths - all end up with holes and everyone else in the house would use tea towels. I tried silicone gloves too but couldn't get on with them. These work for us: www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07NPZDMRH/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?psc=1&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&ie=UTF8 - they have a silicone layer but you can slip your hands in. They do get mucky but wash and dry quickly. Have two pairs and everyone uses them. No more starting to dry a glass with a tea towel and realising someone used it to get the lasagne out of the oven.

Ourlady · 24/08/2021 22:18

Oh haha Cynderella, the lasagne stuck to the tea towel is the worst.
You happily tuck into the Lasagne and then settle for the night completely forgetting about the sticky mess (which then turns into a hard glue like mess) on your lovely tea towel.
Next morning it's a battle to pick/scrape the god forsaken clumps from said tea towel until you eventually say "Ah sod it" and just shove it in the washer and hope it dissolves nicely in the cycle.

Riolou3 · 24/08/2021 22:21

@Beer2bed

A flash mop! Walk past it every week in the supermarket and just cant bring myself to buy it. Spend ages each week on my hands and knees cleaning the kitchen and bathroom floors thinking I should have bought the mop.....and then I dont! It's crazy.
This Grin I do EXACTLY the same! White tiled floor Confused Why???
polkadotpjs · 24/08/2021 22:25

Oh the lasagne tea towel. My husband uses yew towels like dish cloths. And even as I delightedly presented him with a set of "cloths" cut from old tea towels he looked scornfully at them and STILL uses a tea towel. The nice ones usually.

DroopyClematis · 24/08/2021 22:49

A complete 'no' to the Flash mop.

Am now thinking about Pyrex baking trays.

I have a Mason Cash jug which has the measurements on the inside. Game changer.

I need recommendations for a foot scrubby mat for my shower. Looked at loads on Amazon but they have varying reviews.

QuestionableMouse · 24/08/2021 23:05

Just a quick tip on the Pyrex baking trays - stuff will cook differently on them than on metal. They heat up more slowly than metal but hold on to the heat longer and I found it can make stuff cook unevenly.

househousehousefox · 24/08/2021 23:08

@PumpkinPie2016

A vegetable peeler. Ours is ancient and quite blunt now. Can't really sharpen it due to its shape.

No idea why I don't just buy another Confused

@fringeneedsatrim I definitely wouldn't buy a new feather duster but then I don't have an old one. Really odd but I can't stand them Grin

You can sharpen it! role a piece of foil into a ball and just rub the edges along the foil ball. quick easy, works on scissors and other bits like pizza cutter etc
