to complain about upside down dairylea add

I've seen this appalling ad a few times

Two young children dangling upside down by their knees, eating cheese in the hope that if they eat it upside down it will feed their brains

It took me a while to catch what it was actually advertising, but now I know, I am making a formal complaint

I cant believe how utterly stupid and irresponsible this is an as example to junior school aged children

I camembert threads like these.

I camembert threads like these.
Yeah, they're really Gouda-y

It’s not the adverts job to parent your children. That’s your job.

Children see stuff all the time that not recommended for them to do, it’s our job as parents to teach them not to do stupid stuff. Not blame the source.

RaskolnikovsGarret · 23/08/2021 15:02

Op, I think you’re right. Choking can kill. The upside down cheese thing may hopefully not kill many, but even if one child dies to death as a result, that is one child too many.

Thank you

If only they had used bats instead of children in the advert...

If anything OP has helped increase the sales of Dairylea cheese from all the commenters going to test the theory.

So that's actually a great advert they've achieved themselves.

@LavenderAskew

Cheese chocking aside. What patient-facing job does a biologist do in A&E?

Feel like I missed a trick, I loved ER.

Great minds Lavender Wink

@54321nought
You do realise that if a child is choking, if they’re small enough you turn them upside down to help dislodge the food? Because gravity means being upside down helps move the food out of the trachea

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 23/08/2021 15:20

OP you sound like a barrel of laughs.

I was asking if IWBU to report it

I was not asking if it is a dangerous example to show children, that goes without saying

There are a number of people on here who have stated that it is not dangerous for children to eat while upside down on a climbing frame

I expect they do actually know that it is stupid and dangerous, because any normal parent would know that ( and that wasn't the AIBU)

The problem is, you don't know who is reading these threads.

The poster might be thinking "ha ha! this is a funny joke, I am going to pretend I think it is safe for children to eat while swinging upside down, and of course its ok for me to pretend that because everyone will know its a funny joke, and I am pretending"

Actually, someone more vulnerable who reads that might not realise the poster is only joking,

and so hence why I have pointed it out several times quite clearly

Loving this thread, has brightened my Monday right up. It’s awesome when an op writes something mad then doubles down on it. Even throwing out qualifications to make the statement, “I worked in a&e dealing with this dontcha know”

I think as well as asa, watchdog and the police you should also contact your mp, get in there. And thank you.

😂😂😂

Queenoftheashes · 23/08/2021 15:23

I wonder if dairylea is still disgusting.
Will kids still do anything for it?

titchy · 23/08/2021 15:25

There are a number of people on here who have stated that it is not dangerous for children to eat while upside down on a climbing frame

But it isn't dangerous - that's kind of the point people are making Hmm
Where have you demonstrated that eating upside down is unsafe?

pinkcircustop · 23/08/2021 15:26

YABU. It’s a joke. You are being overdramatic and your complaint will go straight in the bin, but they’ll get a laugh out it first Smile

Guavaf1sh · 23/08/2021 15:27

YABU. Using this logic most adverts should be banned

SusieBob · 23/08/2021 15:27

Is it dangerous to eat a bit of dairylea hanging upside down?

Is it, really? Your stomach isn't gravity fed.

Kids have been doing it for years. I was always to be found upside down as a kid, eating everything from ice lollies on, 😂
SusieBob · 23/08/2021 15:30

Apparently chickens can't eat upside down.

OP, if you see an advert featuring a chicken eating soft cheese hanging from a climbing frame, then I'd definately complain because that's just an accident waiting to happen.

@BoredZelda

have worked in A and E and seen deaths from this sort of thing

Sure. I’ll bet you couldn’t move for deaths from people hanging upside down eating cheese triangles.

SusieBob · 23/08/2021 15:31

@Bluntness100

Did you ever choke to death when you ate things upside down?

PineapplePanda · 23/08/2021 15:33

Do we now need to also report Mumsnet to the Trading Standards Agency. In case MNers also lack the capacity to understand a joke?

Do you think the whole population just lacks common sense?

Pedalpushers · 23/08/2021 15:37

I'm also curious what this 'biologist' job located in A&E is.

VeganVeal · 23/08/2021 15:37

I blame the start of child obesity on the old shredded wheat advert 'I bet you cant eat three'. Totally irresponsible
