Do they mean US size 6? The lady is in Wales.
I’m only 2 inches shorter and weigh 9st 6lb and wear size 10-12.
Well done to her for losing the weight though. Just confused by her clothing size.

I am far from super slim but slightly shorter and and weigh less

2" is not slightly shorter though & would mean someone with the same BMI as someone who's 2" taller would probably need to be 10lbs ish lighter.

Sunnygold · 23/08/2021 15:18

To put this in perspective, a UK size 4 is a US size 0. There’s been a lot of criticism about how dangerous and irresponsible it is for shops to sell size 0 clothing. Many clothing companies have banned size 0 models because they’re too tiny. And now the newspapers are claiming this woman is a size 0. And they’re also claiming she’s achieved this size 0 body at a healthy weight of nearly 10st. Meanwhile other newspapers report on models eating tissues and fainting with hunger to achieve size 0. Something doesn’t sound right here.

The woman in the photos is not a size 0. She can’t possibly be a size zero at that weight and height. And I agree with everyone who has been saying for years that size 0 shouldn’t be presented as the ideal.

I have some size zero clothes with. I have some size ten clothes.

I buy what fits, not what size the label says.

Coogee · 23/08/2021 15:24

Ignore the extra “with”.

Gwenhwyfar · 23/08/2021 15:24

"Since when have models been average heights?"

Ah yes, they weren't average height.

Elephantsparade · 23/08/2021 15:26

I know this is a bit of an odd question but how do people decide what size they are?

Shops vary quite a bit and Ive always struggled to buy a dress as if it fits my bottom its too big for my boobs so i tend to do skirts and tops.

I could say I was a size 10 (sainsburys tops) or a 14 (phase eight trousers)

Gwenhwyfar · 23/08/2021 15:27

"Yes, the likes of Cindy Crawford were bigger than Kate Moss certainly, but their height made them look very slim with those stars, more so than the shorter 50s women."

Magazine and catalogue models weren't as tall as the supermodels though (taller than average of course).

Theres a huge difference between promoting size zero as the ideal (or any size as ideal for that matter) and saying shops are irresponsible for selling the size. There are women who need this size. What would you have them wear? And is it also irresponsible to sell very large sizes due to the dangers of extreme weight?
bananamushy · 23/08/2021 15:28

I have size 8s-14 in my wardrobe but I go by my jeans waist size eg 28" is a ten.

Ponoka7 · 23/08/2021 15:29

My DD started Muay Thai to lose weight after her second. She then started weight training and sparring/pads. She's a six 6, we aren't small framed and weighs just on 9 stone. She shops in River Island, Top Shop. She does buy teen stuff and shops at places like shein. Designer stuff goes small. She's mainly in a work uniform or gym wear.Look at the stats for female boxers etc, they are heavy but small. You don't have to be an elite athlete to be similar. You do have to train regularly and get your eating right, to be heavy (muscle) but have small measurements. The woman in the article has large boobs which will put her weight up. She talks about possibly becoming a personal trainer, so trains seriously. Having very low body fat means that you are smaller, than someone who weighs the same but is in a bigger size.

Gwenhwyfar · 23/08/2021 15:30

"Women who aren’t a size 4 will read that and think size 4 is normal and healthy - which for the majority of adult women it isn’t. It’s triggering for normal BMI women - who may be only a size 8-10 - to think they’re too fat. When the actual fact is that a woman of that weight and height will be more like a size 10-12."

I don't think the article should lie, but on the other hand your comment above treats women like small children or suggests all women suffer from EDs. If you are mentally healthy, you won't be 'triggered' by a magazine article about weight. I doubt the average woman is going to try to be a size 4 after reading that one article, not least because she wouldn't be able to buy clothes anywhere!

bananamushy · 23/08/2021 15:34

I used to model, certainly proper agencies for magazines you need to be a certain height eg 5ft 8 plus. I'm 5ft 9 & was often short on the catwalk.

godmum56 · 23/08/2021 15:34

@countrytown

well someone did the photoshopping! zoom in around the waist area on the two full length pictures....

if that's makes you happy then go with that.

I just don't understand the concept of waking up & being happy with your body & size but then reading about this women & all of a sudden thinking "oh no I'm not happy". Then upon finding out she's lying "I'm happy again". Life must be a challenge with that kind of thinking 😆

you have mixed up a few posters here. I am the one who said that the images were photoshopped and I stand by that. And I mind, I think we should all mind, when media lie about people's sizes and body shapes. Personally I am 67 and fat and don't take much notice of who has lost what but I think that implying that this lady's obvious weight loss is not success enough.....that she needs to be further photoshopped to make her of interest well THAT I mind. I minded it when I was 18 and 38-26-38 and I mind it now. And yes I know that photoshop wasn't invented then....did you know though that photo editing has been around for almost as long as photography has been? And much of it was used to change photographs of women?
RickJames · 23/08/2021 15:38

I'm 5'6" and 9 stone and I'm a European size 10-12. I find most British 10s (obviously not teeny tiny designer clothes) come in around a 12-14 in Euro sizes and around a 16 in Italian sizes. Them Italians must be absolutely tiny Shock

So I think it all depends where she's buying her clothes. She is also generous of nork - they are very heavy apparently (I wouldn't know Sad).

She does look lovely - she's done really well. I didn't like the article saying she was facing "being fat at 40" like as if that's some sort of scandal or something. Piss off newspaper!

I’m 6lbs lighter. Her BMI is 23 and mine is 24. I don’t think 4lbs would take me down to a size 4-6 from a 10-12! 😆

Are you as muscular with a large bust? Her waist does look small, maybe she's a size 6 in stretchy clothes?

Lots of MNs say they have a 24" waist tbf.

bananamushy · 23/08/2021 15:46

I always say on the Kate Middleton threads that she is incredibly slim. But posters always say they look similar & we've just lost sight of healthy 🤷🏻‍♀️.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 23/08/2021 15:58

I don't think the OP, or most posters, are "getting at" or being mean to the woman in the article.
I think most (including myself) are querying the accuracy of the ARTICLE in stating the clothes sizes that the lady wears, and wondering if they have used US sizes instead of UK sizes; and it DOES matter because there are people out there - plenty of them! - who ARE insecure about their weight/size and who may see this as an achievable end result, when it may not be.

Eating disorders are still rife and I believe (although I know I'm not in the majority and the media would never do anything about it) that it is ridiculous how the "ideal female form" is STILL portrayed as being one that is generally unachievable for the majority of normal women. Great for you if you have that perfect hourglass shape! Most of us don't.

They might say that but I don’t believe them!
RickJames · 23/08/2021 16:00

@bananamushy

Oh KM is like a wraith, she looks so tiny and so tall! I also imagine that she gets all her clothes altered so there is no ruching or bunching. She likely wears a support garment too in order to get the best hang on the clothes. This will help a lot with her posture and silhouette.

She looks amazing.. a bit unrealistic but she's the future queen and so I guess we expect a bit of glamour. Everyone would grumble if she was slopping around in mum jeans and a sweatshirt in public Grin She's not a "goals" type figure to me but I appreciate her efforts to be princessy and regal.

Blossomtoes · 23/08/2021 16:06

I think she’s beautiful. Her clothes always fit perfectly.

bananamushy · 23/08/2021 16:09

@Blossomtoes I know! I'm 5ft 9 & to look like that in photos I would be underweight although we do have different shapes buts she incredibly slim.

Blossomtoes · 23/08/2021 16:12

I’m deeply envious. I’d kill to be 5ft 9, that extra seven inches would make such a difference.

bananamushy · 23/08/2021 16:14

For a brief period my figure was "ideal", skinny with a bust but I felt too lanky as teenager & Ill never have a big bum & six pack just not my shape so I understand the pressure. However the fact that this women is a size 6 or not doesn't seem a big deal. It doesn't make me feel any pressure to be a size 6 or an 8 at all & it doesn't make me feel like I'm fat.

bananamushy · 23/08/2021 16:15

@Blossomtoes I love it but always wanted to be 5ft 10! we are never happy😆
