Do they mean US size 6? The lady is in Wales.
I’m only 2 inches shorter and weigh 9st 6lb and wear size 10-12.
Well done to her for losing the weight though. Just confused by her clothing size.

(mine is 24. I don’t think 4lbs would take me down to a size 4-6 from a mine is 24..
No it wouldn't. I'm 7st12 5'4 and wouldn't fit in a 4-6 nor would my slim 12 y.o DD since age 10.
It very well might be an American size.

Sunnygold · 23/08/2021 16:21

I’m the same weight as the woman in the article and I’m 2 inches taller. I’m also a size 14 with a 32 inch waist. So I don’t believe she can be the same weight as me but 2 inches shorter, and be a size 4-6 with a 24 inch waist!

bananamushy · 23/08/2021 16:21

but a 24" waist is an 8 isn't it?

bananamushy · 23/08/2021 16:21

sorry i meant it's a 6

Young, unmarried Italian women, yes.

Sunnygold · 23/08/2021 16:23

UK size 4 is a 24 inch waist afaik.

That is true for many Mediterranean countries.

Vanity sizing is even worse than I thought in that case - a 24 inch waist always used to be a 12.

Also true for Spain. Maltese people are fat in general though I think.

I’m pretty sure it is a six. I have the mythical 24” waist for most of the month.

A 12? When I was young it was an 8! How old are you?

😆 yes I was born in the 80s & my high school skirt was a 24" waist & was always in the underweight BMI category

bananamushy · 23/08/2021 16:29

I was

I was born in 1953. It was definitely a 12 in the 80s.
StrongCoffeAvalanche · 23/08/2021 16:33

I'm 5'2" and weigh 9.5 stone. I'm a size 10-12

bananamushy · 23/08/2021 16:34

I was modelling in the late 90s & was defo not a 12.

CornishGem1975 · 23/08/2021 16:42

I'm 5ft 2 and currently 8st 13 and I am basically a 12, 10 in the odd thing but I'd never an 8 over my boobs or bum!

To be honest, I buy what fits. If jeans that are a size 14, who cares? Nobody knows but me.

(She's also MASSIVELY sucking in for that slim waist on that first photo. Nothing wrong with that we all do it but she'd look a bit different if she wasn't)

I'm 52 had a 24 waist in the 80s and was a 12. Now have it again and it's a 6.

tbf shapes & waists have changed over the decades.

I'm a bit younger. I've never had a small waist, but in my teens I weighed around 8 stone and wore a 12. Now in my forties I weigh 9st and wear a 10!

yes, we've gotten a bit taller and a lot fatter
bananamushy · 23/08/2021 17:11

I think even slim people are straighter

emilylily · 23/08/2021 17:23

At 5ft 6 and 10 stone (so a couple of pounds heavier but with a lower BMI) I was a size 10.

I imagine this lady is a size 10 (maybe varying 8-12 depending on the shop) but that Yahoo is looking for Clicks from people who notice that this lady is a slim size 10-12 rather than a superskinny 4-6!

Bellend101 · 23/08/2021 17:25

I'm 5'3", 9st 9lbs and wear an 8-10. And she's way more toned than I am so I think it's realistic.

RickJames · 23/08/2021 17:27

I think its a fair trade - we all get a bit bigger but no typhoid or rickets Wink

In the 90's I was skeletal and I remember still wearing Diesel/ Armani/ Replay in size 8-10 or 34-36. I have a couple of bits from that time and they are like children's clothes. Sizes have definitely increased. But that's probably a good thing or we'd all have to wear togas or flour sacks because nothing in the shops would fit anyone.

My friend was friends with a very successful model in the 90's, not Kate Moss level but all the magazines and on album covers. We were astonished that she was a size 16. She was just so tall and beautifully proportioned that we all assumed she was really skinny. Probably a modern day 12 now though... aargh.. I hate this policing bodies through clothing sizes probably dictated by fat old men. Can't deny I am negatively affected by it though Sad
