Do they mean US size 6? The lady is in Wales.
I’m only 2 inches shorter and weigh 9st 6lb and wear size 10-12.
Well done to her for losing the weight though. Just confused by her clothing size.

@bananamushy

I think even slim people are straighter
Maybe. I haven't read anything on that though. Have you got anything?

Nope, just an observation that taller people with long limbs in general tend to have a straighter torso as opposed to an hourglass shape. Plus better nutrition, different diet & changing fashion has likely made waists thicker. We are bigger in general with bigger feet for example or bigger boobs due to the pill.

Ilikeviognier · 23/08/2021 19:00

I’m 5 foot 2 - 7 stone 6 ish. I’m a size 6. I’d suggest she means US sizing. Good for her though!

wetpants · 23/08/2021 19:29

I’m 5’4 and weigh 8.3 stone. My clothes are size UK 4-6, sometimes 8 depending on manufacturer. I’m now very lean and lift weights 4-5 times a week. I’m not anyway skeletal or borderline anorexic as so kindly suggested here Hmm I used to be a lot softer size 12-14 with a bad eating habits and low level depression.

My diet is low carb and I eat three square meals a day (no calorie counting). Weight training is so good for your body, mind and health - and it transforms your body composition.

wetpants · 23/08/2021 19:38

Also, what would I wear if there were no size 4 or size 6 clothes? Just as well ban sizes 20 + then too.

I'm 7lbs heavier than you at the same height and size 6/8. I'm very soft though and know I should start weights for my bones (I'm 52) but can't get motivated. How did you get started?

I don't think I've ever seen size 4 clothes.

You probably won’t have to wait long. Four will be today’s six.

Lol. I'm short so if I was a size 4 I could just wear children's clothes.

@5128gap I follow Caroline Girvan’s youtube videos! I’ve only been lifting about 6 months (I think) but started to see some nice definition pretty quickly! There’s a Caroline Girvan group at the exercise section here, have a nose 👍

I’m 48 and at throse of perimenopause. It still works. I’m still quite a weakling what comes to pushups though, still working on those..

Thank you. I'll check that out. Was hoping it would be something I could do at home rather than braving the gym!

WhoKnowsProbsNotMe · 23/08/2021 20:03

I don’t know I think these news story’s fib with realistic sizes after weight loss I’ve noticed it a few times. I’m just over 5ft5 and my size 6 jeans (though I buy Zara Jeans and suspect as they do a size 4 their 6 is closer to an 8) fit comfy at 9st-9st3.

Not that it takes away from what she’s done she looks amazing, but I’m with you that who’s probably an 8 or they have her weight wrong unless she’s super lean x

underneaththeash · 23/08/2021 20:10

Must be a US size. I’m same height, similar build and a 10.

underneaththeash · 23/08/2021 20:10

Oh and a bit lighter.

Coogee · 23/08/2021 20:14

How did you get started?

I lift weights too and am quite “hard”. I used to have a personal trainer and she started me off with weights. Resistance bands are a good home alternative. They are cheap and easy to use at home.

However, I also struggle to be motivated. I have weights at home but don’t use them. I find training with other people helps. There is a degree of competition that pushes me to do better. Weight for weight, I’m one of the strongest people at my (small) gym. Male or female.

wetpants · 23/08/2021 20:18

@5128gap I workout at home incase it wasn’t clear Smile

Its interesting to read what a difference it's made to people. I've lost the weight i needed to and improved my overall fitness with brisk uphill walking but feel my (lack of) strength is the missing piece. Also a bit worried about osteoporosis being on the slimmer side, so its definitely something I need to do. I agree a group would help motivation but I'd need to build my confidence a bit first at home I think.

Yes, thank you. I've been over to the Caroline Girvan thread and its inspiring and terrifying in equal measures!

@5128gap She’s a hard taskmaster but following her does bring results. I started with her 20 min workouts and did those alone in the beginning.
Lifting weights give me the euphoria for the day which I never got when I tried to kill myself with cardio.

You've inspired me. I will look at it tomorrow!

I haven't read anything either from what I can see slim people often have a better posture without weight unbalance in their body.
My Dsis definitely looks taller since she lost a lot of weight.

Not sure but I’m 5 ft 6 and weight up to 9 st 8lbs . I wear a size 10 except in case of M&S where it’s an 8 or occasionally smaller as their clothes are huge .
It’s all vanity sizing . I was skeletal until my late 20’s . Couldn’t gain weight no matter how hard I tried . I still wore a size 10 even when 2 stone lighter .
Sizes have got bigger

Hm2020 · 24/08/2021 04:45

I’m 5ft 6 and at at 9 st 12 was an 8 but as someone said I was very toned unfortunately not any more Blush

CecilyP · 24/08/2021 07:12

If someone weighing 9.12 (which, not to take away from her achievement, isn’t really all that slim) is wearing size 4-6 what on earth could someone who weighs 7.12 be wearing? At that weight, I was a size 12 to14. I know sizes have got not that much bigger, surely.
