I’ve just re-watched A Star is Born and sobbed like there’s no tomorrow. Made me think about other films that have hit me hard.
Green Mile is another real sob fest.

Any others? I’d like to build a ‘I need a good cry’ collection Grin

The Fault in Our Stars. I sob all the way through it every time.

LadyFannyButton · 21/08/2021 18:57

A monster calls.
There was lots of sniffing and nose blowing all around the cinema.

HeadNorth · 21/08/2021 18:57

Black Beauty - the ultimate sob fest.

FartleBarfle · 21/08/2021 18:57

Great list of films, especially About Time, Coco, Up, Star is Born, and Green Mile

Forrest Gump always gets me everytime too.

Most recently I watched In The Heights at the cinema and was sobbing into my sleeves at the Pacienca Y Fe. I don't cry in public so was not expecting to be floored emotionally by the screen but it really hit me.

LookItsMeAgain · 21/08/2021 18:57

The film version of Fiddler on The Roof. It's so sad when the daughter goes off to be with her love but Tevye will have none of it and cuts her off and they are both brokenhearted.

Steel Magnolias

Armageddon
Awakenings (even sadder because it was based on a real story)
Dead Poet's Society (Oh Captain! My Captain!)
Forrest Gump (both uplifting and heartbreaking)

Scenes in movies that really tug on those heart strings:
The end of Titanic
That scene in Toy Story 2
The end of the Iron Giant

Mostly I just shed a year. But I rarely cry irl. I'm probably a bit repressed so if I need an emotional blow out I might put on a sad film and sob. I suppose my subconscious needs the excuse.

elbo7 · 21/08/2021 19:00

@WorraLiberty

I've seen a few films that have brought tears to my eyes.

But I honestly can't imagine actually sobbing or bawling.

Serious question to those who say they react that way. Do you actually 'sob' and 'bawl' or just shed a few tears?

@WorraLiberty I cry like I can't stop crying, proper tracks of tears and mascara smudges. Sometimes embarrassingly audible sobs. I went to see Room in the cinema and did embarrassing sobbing (it's got worse since having kids). The good thing is as soon as I stop watching I return to normal behaviour almost instantly!
eandz13 · 21/08/2021 19:00

I cried at Earthlings documentary as a pp mentioned.
Awakenings (DeNiro and Robin Williams) and Miracle in cell no7 made me ugly cry.

Little Women - the Winona Ryder one. The bit at the end when Friedrich says 'Jo - such a little name for such a person' then takes her hand and says 'not empty now'. Welling up just typing it!

And obviously 'Daddy, my Daddy' 😥

I'm useless for hours after it😭

CandlesBlanketsandTea · 21/08/2021 19:02

The end of Moulin Rouge gets me every time! Also Armageddon, Titanic and Steel Magnolias. I also cried hard at the end of Judy and Bohemian rhapsody, knowing they were true stories just made me weep. I cry quite easily though.

saveforthat · 21/08/2021 19:03

Yes Marley and me. My goodness I went to the cinema to see it with my son just after a blazing row with my partner. I really sobbed loud wet and snotty. I couldn't control myself. My son was absolutely mortified.

Coffeemakesmehappy · 21/08/2021 19:03

Watership Down (the 1978 film) … at the end, with Hazel! Sad

SleepWoof · 21/08/2021 19:05

What Dreams May Come
And another fan of About Time and Truly Madly Deeply (Juliet Stevenson is amazing in that counselling scene, proper snotty angry crying)

I’m choked just thinking of that scene in The Railway Children, when Bobbie is on the station platform and sees a figure through the steam. “Daddy! My Daddy!” Gets me every time….
