AIBU that our holiday lodge isn't what we booked?

Nicer problems to have and all. I know we're lucky to be able to have a break at all.

Both DP and I are tall, both 6 foot plus, so I made sure we booked, and paid a lot of money for, a big enough bed. Otherwise we have to sleep all curled up together, or with our feet hanging off the end.

Aibu to be annoyed that we've been given standard double?

Definitely complain. You specified a king bed which you say you didn’t get and as a customer it’s their job to give you just what you asked for. If there was some reason they couldn’t allocate you the king beds you should have been notified with an apology. Or it was a mistake so they should allocate to to a room with king beds. So either way they’re in the wrong so your right to complain.

Bridewel1 · 19/08/2021 00:02

Oops just realised you got it sorted. 🙂

Mamanyt · 19/08/2021 00:41

I'm not sure about the UK, but here in the states, there is a "king," which is the standard length, and a "California king" which is extra-long ("California" denotes extra length in all sizes). Is there a difference there, a designation of extra length? If so, that might be your problem.
@MangoBiscuit

I'm 6ft and my partner is 6'5", we've always had a UK double bed and it's been 6'6" (2m) long. We recently changed it for a UK kingsize for the extra 6" (15cm) in width but its still 6'6" (2m) long.
In which case you don't have a double, you have a Kingsize or the weird IKEA beds of years back that didn't conform to uk standard sizes

Double is 190cm in length and king is 200cm

Lulu49 · 19/08/2021 02:59

I had a queen size, it was 6ft

In the UK?

Result @MangoBiscuit! Hope you managed to get a good night's sleep last night and that you enjoy the rest of your holiday.

I think the final manager that you spoke with that did get your issue sorted should have been contacted earlier by the on-site staff that you had been dealing with. I'm really surprised that they thought their 'solution' was going to satisfy you and that the lack of communication from them wasn't something that needed to be followed up on either. Very poor PR from them in general I would say (except for the last person you dealt with).

StCharlotte · 19/08/2021 08:28

My 6'3" DH must be a freak as he has no issue sleeping in a standard double, even with a footboard.

PineappleWilson · 19/08/2021 09:29

We gave up caravan holidays when DS was 11 and announced he couldn't comfortably fit in a caravan single bed. We gave him the double as we have a toddler who was likely to be up in the morning before him so he couldn't sleep in the living room. DH and I tried out the living room sofa "double" bed and found it to be a 3/4 bed. DH slept fine, me on my 1/2 a mattress left over from him sleeping? Not so much. I ended up in the ironing board bed my son had declined. We go for cottages now.

Glad you got a sensible manager in the end OP.

IntermittentParps · 19/08/2021 10:15

Well done, OP! And well done General Manager – eventually. Sorry it took so long and so much hassle.

whynotwhatknot · 19/08/2021 10:18

Glad its sorted but funny how they claimed yours was a king size alrfeady but then managed to find a king sizre matress.........

Maybe sleeps curled up?
ancientgran · 19/08/2021 11:03

I sleep curled up, a 3ft bed would probably do me. Other people stretch out so need a longer bed. We aren't all the same.

Bodynegative · 19/08/2021 12:28
@MangoBiscuit King-size is now used in UK to describe what used to be a Queen size - 5ft wide and the standard length of 180cm/6ft?
Standard bed length isn't 180cm in the UK. I'm exactly 180 (5'11") and my standard doubles are longer than me. My late partner (6'3") and I, neither of us thin, 50s and with back issues, once shared a single bed. We survived but not something I'd like to do regularly!

DoubleTweenQueen · 19/08/2021 13:45

@Bodynegative Yes, I made a boob which I attempted to rectify a post or so later.
I was really commenting that we used to have Queen and King size, which are now called King & Superking.

LoisLane66 · 19/08/2021 18:33

I have a California King bed shipped here from Macy's in the US by a family who then found it didn't fit in their bedroom
Up on a kind of plinth, solid mahogany and 7-3 X 7-6.

DoubleTweenQueen · 19/08/2021 19:40

@LoisLane66 How on earth did you find that? eBay? I want one!

Agree with this- really surprised Donut Man let it get that far before escalating, I had assumed he was already as hugh as it could go. Thank goodness for the sensible boss. I wonder if SB will now arrange for the website to be amended?
Travis1 · 19/08/2021 20:05

Glad they resolved it for you. We’ve got a king size at home and had a couple of days in an air bnb recently. I didn’t really think about the bed size and it was a standard double. I was surprised how shit it made my sleep so now will be extra careful when booking anywhere

billy1966 · 19/08/2021 20:48

@MangoBiscuit

This is our bed for the next 3 nights...
I think the manager was wise. That photo is shocking and is surely a shocking review and PR.

A picture telling a lot.

ellyeth · 21/08/2021 21:59

It appears they have not adhered to the terms of your contract with them.

I'm short so don't know much about the various sizes of double beds but if you are sure that your bed does not match what you ordered, then I would complain.

I hope you get this sorted out and have a lovely holiday.

purplebunny2012 · 26/08/2021 15:47

@CovidCorvid

Yeah, i wouldn’t have thought that was a static caravan. Plus I’d have thought it was a normal size king size bed.
I'm sorry, it looks exactly like the static caravans I've stayed in at Parkdean Resorts
