AIBU that our holiday lodge isn't what we booked?

Nicer problems to have and all. I know we're lucky to be able to have a break at all.

Both DP and I are tall, both 6 foot plus, so I made sure we booked, and paid a lot of money for, a big enough bed. Otherwise we have to sleep all curled up together, or with our feet hanging off the end.

Aibu to be annoyed that we've been given standard double?

After waiting hours for a call back, we gave up and headed out for a bit. During which time they came in an replaced the mattress with a kingsize, so we have a bed we can sleep in. Very relieved about that.

However, no phone call, so I went straight back to chase up. I think the worst part of this has been having to chase, and wasting time waiting for calls, or anyone to head over. I was offered a £50 voucher to spend in the resort, which I declined. Considering how much we've spent, £50 is a bit of an insult, but also, we can't eat anywhere here as they've changed the only previously coeliac friendly place onsite.

So I was told the General Manager would get back to me. Sure enough, his PA called to arrange a time, and he's just been over to talk to us. He was really understanding, actually apologised and didn't try to fob us off, and offered a good sized refund. I had worked out how much I thought we'd missed out on, he rounded it up and added a bit extra.

So it is resolved. And we've had an apology for the delay in getting things sorted. Also, the wine is nice.

Oh I am very pleased to hear that!
Good result
I hope you can just enjoy the rest of your stay now

I suppose the lesson to learn from this is to ring up and check in advance if you really want to be sure it’s a king size. You wouldn’t think you’d have to but apparently some places think it’s ok to miss-sell.
Hopefully they will consider updating their wording on their website. Next time you see the person in charge suggest that you suggest this so that it doesn’t happen to another unsuspecting mnetter!

longtompot · 18/08/2021 19:25

I'm glad it's finally been resolved, but it's your holiday. You shouldn't be spending time going to and from the managers office to try and get them to sort it out.
Hope you get a good nights sleep tonight and enjoy the rest of your stay.

IHateCoronavirus · 18/08/2021 19:26

Fantastic result op! WineWine we’ll done to you for not giving up.

PineappleTart · 18/08/2021 19:43

I'm glad you've had a resolution but it's not been much of a holiday has it? Sad

Muchtoomuchtodo · 18/08/2021 19:48

Well done. Hope you can enjoy what’s left of you holiday op

MangoBiscuit · 18/08/2021 19:54

Thank you, so relieved that it's been sorted and we can just relax now. My 2 DDs have both had a lovely time so far, just DP and I that have struggled. But the refund is more than half the cost of the affected time, so DP and I have technically been here for free so far.

Thank you all for bolstering my resolve to push for a resolution. Looking forward to a good night's sleep tonight, and a fun, busy day tomorrow.

You've spent your entire holiday this far waiting around for manager and refunds.

TootTootTootToot · 18/08/2021 21:05

That’s a great result. A proper apology and some CASH makes everything ok.

mussymummy · 18/08/2021 21:07

You are not being unreasonable, DP is 6ft 4in and we always look for king-size, one holiday we were given a double and sleep was hard. Hope you get it resolved x

DoubleTweenQueen · 18/08/2021 21:09

@MangoBiscuit I think that's great, and actually by getting the general manager involved, you will hopefully have ensured that future holiday makers actually get what is advertised and don't have their holidays interrupted in a similar way.
Communication, feedback and acknowledgment of an issue is beneficial to the business and customers if it.

Good on you WineFlowers

Standrewsschool · 18/08/2021 21:12

Glad you had a satisfactory conclusion. I wonder if someone has been reading mumsnet!

Kylereese · 18/08/2021 21:18

I don’t blame you OP if it says it has a king size it should have it.

I had a similar issue with a hotel years ago. I paid for an en suite room and there was no hot water. They suggested going to use the gym/swimming pool showers which I tried and was still freezing. I think the hotel must have ran off one tank and everyone was getting ready at the same time.

When I said I paid for an en-suite room and didn’t technically get one they were most surprised when I said I wanted a partial refund!

Harmonypuss · 18/08/2021 21:38

I couldn't be bothered to read EVERY post so apologies if this has already been said but the length of a double bed is exactly the same as that of a kingsize (6'6"), it's the width that's different (double 4'6", king-size 5'0"). So it shouldn't make any difference based on the height of the bed users.

That's not true and you really should read the whole thread. This point has been discussed at length

@Harmonypuss it has been discussed up thread, but it's not. There's 10cm difference in length between a UK double and a UK kingsize. Unfortunately it's enough to make a very real difference for us.

@MangoBiscuit

I'm 6ft and my partner is 6'5", we've always had a UK double bed and it's been 6'6" (2m) long. We recently changed it for a UK kingsize for the extra 6" (15cm) in width but its still 6'6" (2m) long.

A kingsize is definitely longer than a double. We upgraded from a double to a kingsize last year and the end of the bed is now closer to our wardrobe.

ElephantOfRisk · 18/08/2021 22:13

A standar UK double and Kingsize are not the same length as has been stated by OP and any others.

Where the confusion MAY be is that IKEA used to have a bed size that was almost exactly the same width as a UK double but the length of a KIng (I think 140 x 200). We bought those for my tall DSs where there was not quite enough room for a king widthwise.

I don't really think they sell them anymore, leastwise it's a struggle to get the sheets, but a standard king is pretty much ok.

starfishmummy · 18/08/2021 22:18

@BoredmotherofoneAll of the sofas in premier inn turn into beds? I know it's not great but better than clinging on for dear life???

The one we stayed in didn't have a sofa. The extra put-u-up bed for ds was shoehorned in, and actually touched one side of the double bed on one side and the wall the other. Both DS and DH (as I made him have that side!) had to enter their respective bed from the bottom upwards. I had a small amount of room to get out of the side.

Our first ever P.Inn stay. And probably the last.

starfishmummy · 18/08/2021 22:24

@JenniferAllisonPhillipaSue

I, too, would like to know the measurements of a 'caravan king size' bed (and a caravan double bed, for that matter). Has anybody found anything other that the previous link that suggests no difference? I've often thought that the doubles in Haven caravans seem a little short ...
I googled and they appear to be the same size as regular king sized beds
Nocutenamesleft · 18/08/2021 22:39

@MangoBiscuit

This is the description, with branding, locations etc, removed. There's enough room in the living area that I could have put down my huge airbed and had a bloody good night's sleep.

I will be pushing for a reasonable refund, but I wanted to try to salvage some of the holiday first. I paid by credit card too, and have screenshots of the booking, and the website, and all the photos. Even a smallish refund would pay for a weeks camping trip. Should have just done that, but we decided to treat ourselves and splash out this time...Hmm

I know exactly the resort. Is it near the south of England? If it’s close. I’ve got a king size inflatable mattress I could pop over.
MazDazzle · 18/08/2021 23:11

Great update Mango. Well done for your persistent complaining. Hopefully you can now enjoy the rest of your holiday!

I never used to complain, but nowadays weekends away/holidays are a rare treat and bloody expensive, so I’m much more inclined to kick up a fuss.
