AIBU that our holiday lodge isn't what we booked?

Nicer problems to have and all. I know we're lucky to be able to have a break at all.

Both DP and I are tall, both 6 foot plus, so I made sure we booked, and paid a lot of money for, a big enough bed. Otherwise we have to sleep all curled up together, or with our feet hanging off the end.

Aibu to be annoyed that we've been given standard double?

@fruitbrewhaha

Hmm it's one of those temporary buildings which come in two parts and are put together on site. they move them on the back of a lorry.

So they have changed the website to say double beds now OP

How do you know? OP has been careful not to reveal the name or location.

It's still saying king size on the one I'm looking at.

"How have you seen the website?"

I was also wondering that!

Are you paying £500 a night????

It doesn't feel "caravanny", it's far too big and sturdy. Mains electric, proper plumbing, good water pressure, central heating, and the hob, fridge freezer, and dishwasher are all bigger that we have at home. If it is,I don't really mind. There's plenty of space for a kingsize bed. There's a walk in closet and ensuite taking up a third of the width, and there's STILL room for a kingsize. There just isn't a kingsize, which sadly impacts the rest of the holiday.

Jaxhog · 17/08/2021 19:09

That would annoy me too. We like a kingsize for the width but have had this happen so often, that we now specify a twin room unless we KNOW the kingsize is real. We can always push 2 beds together.

Even specifying it in the 'notes' doesn't guarantee anything.

OchonAgusOchonOh · 17/08/2021 19:10

@karenfisher

The picture of the bed on their website doesn't look like a king- more like a double looking at the width of the cushions and pillows behind it
I would agree. But photos can be very deceptive and you should be able to trust the actual words on the screen to be true.
DoubleTweenQueen · 17/08/2021 19:11

They're definitely describing it as a luxury pad - designer kitchen, integrated appliances, Master bedroom with King-size bed & ensuite.
I would expect something very comfortable and distinct from a normal static. I would also expect a King-size bed!!

Puzzledandpissedoff · 17/08/2021 19:13

How have you seen the website?

Google the title the owner uses, with brackets or speech marks round the whole thing ... takes you straight to it

That doesn't mean that "holiday home" always means "static caravan" though!

Agree with all this. I'd insist on a very healthy refund. If they squirm, remind them that you can go to Trading Standards and any holiday body they may be registered with. Not to mention of course leaving an honest review.

knittingaddict · 17/08/2021 19:16

Is it! That explains why the king size bed in the air B and b at the weekend was tiny!

That person was wrong Bryonyshcmyony. A kingsize is 5ft wide, but it is longer at 6 ft 6 inches.

TatianaBis · 17/08/2021 19:17

@TatianaBis

Just demand a refund, film the TV thing and Google for somewhere local that has decent beds. Life is just too short - or rather the bed.
Alternatively threaten to record the complaint in TV as the crew asked and you will get a refund pdq.
knittingaddict · 17/08/2021 19:18

@Horst

It’s partly the layout and the style of the fittings that to me says caravan but it could just be that one photo of the unit being deceptive.
It says static caravan to me too. The fittings and construction are extra lightweight in static caravans and I recognise the construction style.

All the grabby bastards have come out to play. Greedy fuckers.

Heckythump1 · 17/08/2021 19:23

I new it was that site from your description... they're quite obviously just fancy double wide caravans that they're describing as 'lodges'!

Bryonyshcmyony · 17/08/2021 19:26

I thought a double was 4 6, a queen was 5 and a king bigger.

Whatever, our bed was much narrower than the bed we have at home which is a king size

Maybe in some countries. Not in the UK.
knittingaddict · 17/08/2021 19:32

It goes:

Small single - 2ft 6 inches x 6 ft 3 inches
Standard single - 3 ft x 6 ft 3 inches
Small double (Queen) - 4 ft x 6 ft 3 inches
Double - 4 ft 6 incehes x 6 ft 3 inches
Kingsize - 5 ft x 6 ft 6 inches
Super King - 6 ft x 6 ft 6 inches.

Bryonyshcmyony · 17/08/2021 19:33

Aha. I see we have a Super king.

And have just discovered there's an Emperor width which would be amazing

Vaselike · 17/08/2021 19:38

I have stayed in several of those posh caravan lodge type things and had a king sized bed. I know - I don’t want to go on holiday to have less space.

(The kids have to suck it up and sleep in 2’6” beds for my privilege though ;))

bellabasset · 17/08/2021 19:40

I live near Par Beach, where Par Sands, have lodges as well as supersize caravans. Have a quick look on their website and do a comparison. I often pop to the beach so I know the lodges are a lot bigger. Some of these large units are built as two halves and taken as wide loads.
