Spent so much on a night out - regret.

I'm 26 and trying to save for a deposit. I have £5000 saved so far
I don't usually drink. Haven't been out in 2 years. And only really drink in meals.

Went out with friends last night and I'm not sure if it's because I haven't had drink in a while but it really went to my head and I feel so embarrassed today after realising I was speaking to random people and I even bought a random woman a shot.
I wasn't even going to drink but after someone bought me a shot , I just kept buying more alcohol.
And I bought for other people too.

I just got so happy and jolly.
Checked my bank account, and I've spent £40. £40 that I didn't want to waste on alcohol.
Doesn't help I already have bad money anxiety.

I know I'm unreasonable to regret this but I just feel so much anxiety about how much I've spent after not drinking for 2 years.
I gave up alochol after hating who I become when drunk and I just feel so much regret and like I've reverted backwards.

That feeling after a night out where you have clearly been robbed because it feels like someone has hit you over the head and taken all your money Smile

I was expecting a story on you spending your deposit.

Crikey that would have been my student budget in the 90s. I thought you were going to say at least £100

Prosperhigh · 16/08/2021 23:20

I call this THE FEAR! When you wake up and you are like what the fuck did I do last night.

I really was not expecting you to say £40 more like £600, jeez iv spent £200 before iv even left the house for a night out by the time iv got my outfit, tan, nails ect

Relax and stop worrying you’ll feel better once the hangover is over

"£4 is very cheap per drink... "

At the Spoons in Cardiff a small white wine was around £2. Suburban Spoons were cheaper than city centre ones and Lloyd bar ones a bit more expensive.
I'm on the continent now and a glass of wine (usually small or medium, they don't have the same measures) are between 2.5E and 6E.

I need to move!

If it would make you feel better you could pick up £40 pretty easily doing online surveys, cashback on Quidco etc. Look at the money saving board for tips if you are interested.

£40 on a night out is nothing though!

userhuman · 17/08/2021 13:17

What do you earn in a year? Are you struggling to cover expenses?

Agree! You could do some Deliveroo/ Uber eats to make up the £40 if it's that big of a problem.
ConstanceGracy · 17/08/2021 14:29

It was £40 and if you know you have money anxiety and you’re likely to be overreacting then why ask others?
Shit happens and if it affects you that much then just don’t so it again.

Crowtooyo · 17/08/2021 14:34

I went to a wedding a few weeks ago and spent over £40 on just 1 round. Don't beat yourself up about it. £40 isn't a lot in the grand scheme. Did you have fun? Thats the main thing!

Gwenhwyfar · 17/08/2021 17:18

"I need to move!"

Also, no need for a taxi if you live in Cardiff and go out either in the city centre or the areas within a mile around.

I think my nights out wouldn't make the average MNer happy though. I don't go to clubs or gigs, just food and drink. Keep it simple.
And no rounds, just get your own unless you're with the same friends all the time and you all drink the same thing.
