Spent so much on a night out - regret.

I'm 26 and trying to save for a deposit. I have £5000 saved so far
I don't usually drink. Haven't been out in 2 years. And only really drink in meals.

Went out with friends last night and I'm not sure if it's because I haven't had drink in a while but it really went to my head and I feel so embarrassed today after realising I was speaking to random people and I even bought a random woman a shot.
I wasn't even going to drink but after someone bought me a shot , I just kept buying more alcohol.
And I bought for other people too.

I just got so happy and jolly.
Checked my bank account, and I've spent £40. £40 that I didn't want to waste on alcohol.
Doesn't help I already have bad money anxiety.

I know I'm unreasonable to regret this but I just feel so much anxiety about how much I've spent after not drinking for 2 years.
I gave up alochol after hating who I become when drunk and I just feel so much regret and like I've reverted backwards.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 £40?!!!! Bless you sweetheart, you should be so proud that you’re so good with money x

Doublestar · 16/08/2021 20:40

You got completely rat arsed, we're throwing your money around buying shots for the whole club like P Diddy and you only spent £40??

I'd say that's a result! Grin

CorianderBee · 16/08/2021 20:43

... it's only £40. I'm 26 too and spent far more than I should on booze and food 😂

That's a pretty cheap night out for most people OP. We've all done it you're probably just hanxious. It's fine, forget about it, it's done and it really doesn't matter.

Cherryana · 16/08/2021 20:51

I have often spent more than that on one glass of champagne.

@Fullodregret3728

I live in the North West but went for a night out in North Wales and drinks seemed to be £3 each haha
£3 each?!? God, why do I live in London? It's £6 a pint or £10 for a spirit and mixer at my local club 😂

I was wondring if maybe she'd left out a zero.

Apparently not.

WaterIsBest · 16/08/2021 20:57

£40 really isnt that much money for a night out

tttigress · 16/08/2021 20:59

I thought you were going to say you blew the whole deposit!!

Mindyourbusiness22 · 16/08/2021 21:02

£40?! I’d be laughing if that’s all I spent on a night out! What you feel is classic beer fear. The world will be better tomorrow.

Ukholidaysaregreat · 16/08/2021 21:03

Hsha! I clicked on the thread thinking £500 can't believe it's only £40. I used to spend that in 1996. You are fine OP. Hope it was a good night! I am enjoying thinking of you as P Diddy. Grin

userxx · 16/08/2021 21:05

@YerAWizardHarry

Christ I wish I spent only £40 on a night out. Last night out I had I spent £150 Confused

Same for me. I was trying to recollect getting robbed at some point, but no 🙄

Give yourself a break OP, you had a fun night after being very disciplined for two years, you sound like you deserved to let your hair down.

DeflatedGinDrinker · 16/08/2021 21:09

I used to always think I'd been robbed during my clubbing days when I worked out what I spent the next day 😂 miss those days

When I was a student in the days we had to go to a cash machine to check our balance and take out a wee receipt that would tell us our last 10 transactions to find out what we'd spent, every single week without fail I'd check my balance and exclaim "I've had fraud on my account!!"

Nope, never did, just bad with money

It's only 9 quid more than someone spent on two boxes of fudge in another thread!
OnTheBoardwalk · 16/08/2021 21:26

You’ve not been out for 2 years. Hope you had a good night and can get rid of the regret

SchrodingersImmigrant · 16/08/2021 21:28

I know someone out in clubs basically weekly and I have absolutely no idea how is he paying that and rent😂 I could absolutely not

userxx · 16/08/2021 21:29

Now that would be a good night!!

Gwenhwyfar · 16/08/2021 21:52

@ShimmyYay

Can you teach me how to go out get drunk buy other people drinks ALL for £40!
Just be a lightweight like me. I'm tipsy after 3 drinks, drunk after 4. 4 wines would be around 16 Euro, bus would be less than 2 euro each way so I suppose I would have the rest of the money to buy drinks for others. I wouldn't of course, I'd spend the rest on food. My average night out eating and drinking costs around 30E. I get the impression, MNers spend a whole lot more on average.
putthebinsout · 16/08/2021 22:20

£4 is very cheap per drink... I'm nit in london but a drink is at least £6 round here and a large glass of wine or a double could easily be £8 or £9.

I can get the bus out (£3.5) but they don't run late so it has to be a taxi back which is at least £15

So even on the 4 drinks and no food it would still exceed £40.

Pedalpushers · 16/08/2021 22:25

I haven't considered £40 a lot of money for a night out since I was a student 15 years ago.

hemhem · 16/08/2021 22:58

OP just a thought but if you're saving for a house you will have to be prepared for a lot of expensive things to come in future. I remember my first ever house when I was 24 and had scrimped and saved every penny to move in to a new build 2 bed flat. I went to b&q to buy curtain poles and came home £100 poorer. Curtain poles! Had to save for a few months to buy the actual curtains! You need to deal with your money anxiety or owning a house will be way too stressful for you

Durbeyfield · 16/08/2021 23:01

Sounds like a cheap night out to me.

Haha!!! Yes, this!!! No asking the landlord for stuff when you own the bloody house!! Boiler has broken, now your responsibility and cost. Roof needs fixing, now your responsibility and cost.

Have to say, there are a lot of downsides to owning your own home, name the cost and time spent on repairs, renovations and general maintenance!!

nc8765 · 16/08/2021 23:05

I thought you were going to say £2,000.

Oh OP, you poor love. £40 is nothing. Enjoy yourself from time to time.
