To think Joe Biden is an even worse president than Trump?

I realise Trump was appalling in many ways so this isn't a pro-Trump post really, and I know he was the one who put things in motion for the withdrawal from Afghanistan. But to pull out in such a sudden and shambolic way will without doubt be the direct cause of many deaths and other atrocities in Afghanistan, including the deaths of those who helped the US and other forces. I think it's utterly unforgivable. Can't think of anything Trump did with quite such immediate and devastating consequences. AIBU?

We didn't have to announce a mass exodus, people had already been leaving in dribs and drabs, Australia pulled out months ago?

How dare Biden deny the right of American helper the chance to decide to go because the president, a knowingly corrupt self serving arse hole said it would cause a crisis of confidence.

There was a list supposed to be drawn up in April of those who helped Americans and apparently it wasn't done.

Passport of afghan helpers have been burned in the embassy! That smoke we saw was their hopes and lives.

Now they don't know they name of many assistants.

Biden wouldn't talk to Johnson for 36 hours I've just learned. This is the end of trust, working together... Biden smashing it. His generals at the briefings look shit scared!!

I'm struggling to take in the mess. Basically they should have kept enough troops there to immediately secure the airport in a worst case scenario and pushed evacuation and had lists done, paper work mostly done in case...

Wheretoeattweenandteen · 21/08/2021 21:05

Our soldiers, young boys in severe heat having to make life or death descion of desperate humans, civillians who want to live, struggling with containers and a poorly positioned entry point to process people causing a crush.

Justanotherlurker · 21/08/2021 21:08

And the west has managed to keep lengthy deployments going - no-ones suggesting just walking out of N/S Korea, because we've got to pull out one days are they?

For a start they are not in North Korea, it is a very different scenario. The American public do not want there Troops in Afghanistan, outside of the green zone the Afghans do not want western values. If you are going full on right wing interventionilist in the name of womens rights then there are many more countries that you will also need to instill those values in.

Cailleach1 · 21/08/2021 22:45

On Afghanistan, after listening to Rory Stewart, Biden abandoned the Afghans to their fate. Trump may have wanted to do it, but in the end didn't. Biden pressed the button and has unleashed untold misery.

CheerfulYank · 21/08/2021 22:47

YABU.

But this is a shit show for sure.

thegcatsmother · 22/08/2021 10:03

Perhaps we should have started extracting people a lot sooner, and quietly, so our ducks were in a row.

Nation building was mission creep. It is down to the Afghan people to want to effect change and be willing to do it. I am not sure that Afghanistan is a nation in the Western sense of the word. Db when he did his tour said it was so different to our mindset.

I think we need to have a long, cold, hard look at Pakistan and recalibrate our relationship there.

I don't know what the answer is. I am so sad about the future being taken from the women and girls, but I am unsure that I would want the serving members of my family to go back again to fight for their rights.

Wheretoeattweenandteen · 22/08/2021 10:09

The g cat the girls rights was mostly in towns, and its interwoven in the society to suppress the women and within their own families.

The American presence actually gave many a barrier between themselves and their own uncles.
I've read a few accounts of women living quite freely of dreading knocks on the door from repressive uncles.

But the pull out

Every aspect is horrendous even down to where they have chosen to pin point people m

Wheretoeattweenandteen · 22/08/2021 10:14

But Biden can certainly forget his image as the good guy. That's trashed.

Lweji · 22/08/2021 15:50

I strongly suggest you read a bit about Korea and the US.

Dave20 · 26/08/2021 22:56

I haven’t read all 29 pages on here. But I’m genuinely concerned for the US. Biden can barely string a sentence together. He doesn’t seem well to me. Yet he’s the most powerful man in the free world! It really isn’t funny. He looks like he’s got dementia the early stages anyway.
I honestly don’t think Biden is fit to be doing his job.

Dave20 · 26/08/2021 22:59

I was never Blair’s biggest fan but what he’s saying about Afghanistan makes sense.

Dave20 · 26/08/2021 23:10

And 12 US servicemen and a large number of Afghan civilians have been killed at Kabul airport today.

You sound like you should listen to Biden a bit more than to his critics. Then let us know.
Aspiringmatriarch · 27/08/2021 03:16

Lweji do you have to be so patronising? I suggest you read a bit about this, listen to that... You don't know what others have experience and knowledge in and seem to make the assumption that you're speaking to knuckle-dragging idiots.

Trump was the terrible architect and Biden is a dodgy builder.

He has a stammer. He sounds the way he does because he is trying to control a severe speech impediment. I admit it is hard to listen to sometimes, but lets not put someone down because of a disability of sorts.

Of course there may be issues on top of that, but I just think people should be aware of that and not rush to a diagnosis of mental decline.

Not defending him as this is an awful and possibly avoidable situation. I have no respect left for the US as a country. They have shown themselves for what they really are - racist, misogynistic and large swathes are anti science and poorly educated. It's been an eye opener that's for sure.

Teamfemale · 27/08/2021 07:58

I don't know who the worst POTUS is but this is what he will be remembered for that's for sure.

The POTUS seems very weak and its something we should all be worried about because of what that represents to the world.

Lweji · 27/08/2021 07:59

Anyone who claims that Biden can't string a sentence together or that he looks like he has dementia hasn't actually heard him speak for more than a selection provided by some pundits focused on making him look unfit.

And anyone claiming that he seems more unfit than Trump, then it's clearly blind or deaf, either physically or by their dislike of Biden.

Biden is an old man. He does not have the intelligence of Obama. But he is several notches ahead of Trump on how to construct sentences.

Quite frankly, criticise Biden all you like, but if you come here to pass on the idea that he is unfit, I cannot possibly take you seriously, and, worse than that, I'll start thinking that you are not a legit poster.

I see this claim made quite a lot but I've also seen interview footage of Biden himself denying he has a stammer. Video footage of him earlier in his career shows a man speaking clearly without hesitation, he has, until recently, been able to have unscripted engagement with the press and public. His public speaking performance is variable, sometimes better than others, which leads me to think it may be reliant on drug dosing and schedule. I watched him during the election campaign and thought his problems may be due to Parkinson's disease.

I think that's a bit disingenuous Lweji. Lots of people have talked about Biden's possible dementia and it doesn't make someone an illegitimate poster if they say it on here . Many who do comment are unaware of his stammer and many are Trump supporters. I disagree with them, but it doesn't make them ineligible to post.

For all we know he may have the early dtages if dementia. Ronald Reagan had it while in office (I think) and they allowed Trump to be president with all his many issues, so it's not like the US doesn't have a track record of ignoring deficits in their presidents.

My personal opinion is that what people are hearing is his need to cover a severe stammer. I didnt have high hopes for Biden, but even I'm stunned by how bad this all is. I hope it's ok to say that.

knittingaddict · 27/08/2021 08:14

Sorry for typos. I forgot to proof read some of that.

I do think he is unfit Lweji. Forget Trump, look at the difference between Biden and Obama. One is strong and has clear direction. One is old/frail and looks like he is tired and receiving bad advice.

There is a very big geopolitical issue brewing here and tbh I think this is the start of a very long time of troubles for the rest of the world. We need some one who is strong and has clear direction as POTUS to avoid the very real possibility of WW3 kicking off. The U.K is is a terrible position as we have been shown not to have that 'special relationship' anymore.
