Housemate who secretly recorded us has been made a lecturer at UK university

I cannot be unreasonable here. I wrote on here about two yrs ago about my housemate who hid a camera in our kitchen. He is now a lecturer at a London uni.

The police were not interested neither was landlady- I didn’t contact university and am now wondering should I?

OP posts:
LunaAndHerMoonDragons · 13/08/2021 12:42

This is OPs factual report from the other thread He is working on a project sequencing film scenes through machine learning. I presume he will say he wanted to track motion in front of a lense, etc, etc. When I found the camera I said no recording bt then found he had moved camera to front room and started recorded front of house. Then set up a different thing (not sure what it is) to automate watering plants that works from his computer It doesn't have a camera on it (that I can see) or recording device..
I'd be struggling to see what there is to report. He was a dick, what he did was unethical, but how is it a safeguarding concern and where were those concerns two years ago?

Bluntness100 · 13/08/2021 12:51
@bluntness

I specifically said A FACTUAL account of what happened. That is the exact opposite of making things up. There is no purpose or need to make anything up. Report the facts only.

If you think filming women without consent in their home is OK and totally not creepy, them you and he have nothing to worry about, do you?
For goodness sake, fhen reporting the facts should include the full facts not just a limited sub set to make him look like a pervert.

What’s wrong with you you’d suggest such a thing, do know these people?

Confused
SionnachRua · 13/08/2021 12:57

Oh fgs OP, let it go - it sounds like he's living rent free in your head. Man sets up camera in communal house space, man moves camera when asked to by housemates...Stop the presses, what a horror. He may not be an overly nice guy but you are twisting the facts and refusing to believe anyone could disagree with you. I know who I'd rather live with.

disco123 · 13/08/2021 13:03

If telling the truth " makes him look like a pervert" then that's his problem, not OPs.

I recall your Thread 🌸

QueenBee52 · 13/08/2021 13:10

He was Shady as fook

and I would have pursued it much further

It's more that selective reporting, and leaving out crucial bits of the truth makes her look "unusual" - see the progress of this thread!
disco123 · 13/08/2021 13:33

To some? I've read it all and still think it's creepy and wrong and worth reporting.

Hekatestorch · 13/08/2021 14:02

Except that's not true. Because op could find herself on the receiving end of harassment claims.

disco123 · 13/08/2021 14:11

Giving a factual report of someone's actions is not harassment. And truth is an absolute defence against a charge of libel.

Whyo · 13/08/2021 14:24

@disco123 Are you the OP under another username?

NotableTree · 13/08/2021 14:27

But to whom, if the police weren’t interested at the time?

Except what she has led people to believe here, is different to her last thread.

So which is factual? Her telling her new 'truth' to make him look like a pervert, 2 years later could infact get her done for harassment.

Especially, if this isn't the first time she has tried to do something to him. Op seems fairly obsessed, but can't quite a story straight

QueenBee52 · 13/08/2021 15:00

Report him OP 🌸

SailYourShips · 13/08/2021 15:43

What was he doing before he got this job at the university and why didn't you report him at any time during this period?

Is it because you are jealous that he has got a better job than you as you work in the same field?

From what you've written here-and on your earlier thread-you sound as if you just want to make trouble for someone that you don't like and who is doing better than you?

Are you the lone ranger in your vendetta against him or are the other housemates on board with you?

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 13/08/2021 15:58

Report him OP

Yes, I'm sure his employer will be desperate to hear all about how an employee might have been in breach of their tenancy agreement, two years ago

particularly one that was secretly recording all his housemates without their permission..

is he still doing it? in the class rooms?

I wouldn't want a creep like that teaching anyone..

MajesticWhine · 13/08/2021 16:06

If it was me, I would let this go. Yes it's worrying and creepy behaviour but you did what you could at the time reporting to police who were not interested. But I think OP you do not really want differing opinions. In which case you don't need anyone's permission, report if you want to.

Lweji · 13/08/2021 16:09

Being a lecturer is not very different from any other job.

I would worry more if he was a police officer, for example. Or worked with vulnerable people.

A lecturer, teaching adults, not so much.
The university might be interested if it was something done at work, or in the university while a student.

Hekatestorch · 13/08/2021 16:10

I wouldn't want a creep like that teaching anyone

Op didn't think there were 'creepy' reasons behind it at the time.

Only now, is she saying that. Why is it now a safe guarding concern? Is it because that's how she can damage his reputation best?

Personally ...

I don't want any random with a 'secret filming' fetish around people .. particularly teaching ..

He likes doing it... he won't have stopped the secret recordings ..

How far are the boundaries ?

Report him OP.. tell them your experience.. let them decide if this is someone they want teaching in their Uni.. let them make an informed decision.. 🌸

Lweji · 13/08/2021 16:15

What are you worried about, OP?
That he films his students in class? Worse than that... during Zoom lectures?
That he sets up hidden cameras in the labs or offices?

PurpleDaisies · 13/08/2021 16:16

Report him OP.. tell them your experience.. let them decide if this is someone they want teaching in their Uni.. let them make an informed decision.

An informed decision based on what? The op’s say so? How are the uni supposed to establish what exactly happened?

Lweji · 13/08/2021 16:17

OTOH, maybe Scotland Yard or MI5 would be interested. For recruiting purposes. Or not so much, as he was so easily caught. Grin
