It’s been raining for about a week where I live. I’ve just woken up to yet more heavy rain this morning. It must be utterly miserable for anyone holidaying in the UK right now. You have my sympathies! Hope you’re managing to have a decent time despite the grim weather.

Have definitely had far more dry and sunny UK holidays over the years than the opposite. Can only ever remember it raining in West Coast Scotland and one time in London. It's been dry every single time I've holidayed in Yorkshire (inland and coastal), Norfolk, Suffolk, Northumberland, East Coast Scotland, Warwickshire... stick mostly to the east side of the country, you'll be reet.

In Pembrokeshire. Was stunning today!

TheDukeissoHot1 · 10/08/2021 21:19

On a UK break in North Yorkshire this week, Sunday was a bit showery, yesterday was windy but warm and it’s been glorious sunshine for virtually all of today with just one short rain shower at tea time. Keeping everything crossed the rest of the week stays warm & dry Smile

Applecross 9pm tonight. Looking over to Rassay and Skye. Could not be more beautiful

Our best holidays with the kids were in U.K. and Ireland. We made the unpredictability of the weather part of the joy. Our activities would change depending on the weather. Don’t stick your nose up at the “ it’s not bad weather just bad clothing” expression. It symbolises resourcefulness and resilience. These are good lessons for the next generation, especially with the potential changes facing us due to climate and pandemic influences.

Ahh brings back happy memories when my 3 boys were small. Wet suits on and swimming/surfing in the sea in the rain beach to ourselves. Hot chocolate and toast in the camper after. Sleet in Cumbria in August watching buzzards from a tent. My list is endless.
Never took mine anywhere hot and sunny until they were teens and we all have such happy memories of our Cornish family holidays.
Depends what floats your boat and the type of person you are. Each to their own I say.

That's stunning 🤩

We usually holiday in the UK so we're used to rain! It doesn't stop us enjoying our holiday Smile

runthatbymeagain · 10/08/2021 22:18

It is breathtakingly beautiful tonight. So quiet and peaceful. Midges are the work of the actual devil however…

WingBingo · 10/08/2021 22:20

The Gower today. Warmest sea I have ever been in, in the UK.

We have been very lucky up in Scotland. We have missed the major downpour and just had occasional showers. Yesterday and today were sunny and lovely. Tomorrow looks very grim but we shall just wrap up in waterproofs!

lynsey91 · 10/08/2021 22:55

@Boredmotherofone

It's been glorious here in North Yorkshire for months! I think we've had ONE day of rain in about 3 months and even that day it brightened up later on and the skies turned blue again. I'm looking at the sky now and there's not a cloud to be seen. Builders over the rod are topless which is as good a sign as any!
You have been lucky then. I live in the East Midlands and we have probably only had a couple of days without rain (and usually wind too) in the last 2 or so months.
Claudia2021 · 10/08/2021 22:57

Well that’s a waste as it’s been glorious up here, hopefully you’ve managed to find an alternative to do x

lynsey91 · 10/08/2021 22:59

@TalkSomeSense20

Oh give over....people who bang on about the weather in the UK during the summer drive me bonkers! It's raining. It's sunny. It's raining again. It's what we do. You'd think that, after the last 18 months of pretty much all small & local businesses taking a massive hit, people would want to get out and support them just a smidge. Change your plans...do indoor stuff when its raining. Do outdoor stuff when it's not.
"do indoor stuff". Would that be the indoor stuff that now has to be booked in advance? No just turning up at museums, castles, stately homes etc now.

Some areas there is little in the way of "indoor stuff" especially if you don't have a car

samwitwicky · 10/08/2021 23:04

In Bournemouth for the week. A bit windy yesterday but today has been glorious, spent all day on the beach!

AppleKatie · 10/08/2021 23:05

Both English heritage and national trust are accepting walk ins now.

Last week in U.K. on two seperate days we booked into museums/attractions on the day before or morning of and had a great time on a light railway that couldn’t be booked in advance.

starlight13 · 10/08/2021 23:17

I don't know where everyone is getting the weather reports from but we are heading to Wales tomorrow, then Lake District and on to Scotland. Just over 2 weeks away and the weather looks great.

Hesma · 10/08/2021 23:34

Nope! We are having a fab time, a bit of rain won’t stop us! It’s all about being prepared, having waterproofs and a good attitude!

bridgetreilly · 11/08/2021 00:00

In Lake District last week, mostly lovely, with a couple of grey days with showers.

In Scotland since the weekend: one late afternoon rain shower, admittedly heavy, on Sunday. Sunny all day yesterday and today.

Very glad we didn’t decide not to come! The weather forecasts are not always right.

Wineat5isfine · 11/08/2021 00:11

I’d take a weeks holiday in the UK right now, come rain or shine. We’ve had to canx 2 x holidays this year.

A change of scenery is heavenly, whether it’s sun or raining!

nonotmenotI · 11/08/2021 00:27

I was in England last week and apart from a couple of showers it was sunny and warm.

THEDEACON · 11/08/2021 01:36

I live in Scotland there have been a couple of thunderstorms in last few days where I am but still warm and sunny

Blueink · 11/08/2021 05:12

Had a week in a caravan with young child and it rained constantly but didn’t spoil the holiday whatsoever, still a getaway and can get out and about with umbrella, waterproofs, wellies. It can be miserable to have a leak in a tent and all your stuff gets wet and hard to dry it, would feel sorry for anyone in that circumstance (being cold and unable to get warm due to damp bedding etc), otherwise a holiday is a holiday and many people can’t afford one.

Ddot · 11/08/2021 05:51

(Bad clothing choice)
it's a saying. A very old one at that.
Supposed to be light hearted.
