To feel so sorry for anyone on a British holiday right now

It’s been raining for about a week where I live. I’ve just woken up to yet more heavy rain this morning. It must be utterly miserable for anyone holidaying in the UK right now. You have my sympathies! Hope you’re managing to have a decent time despite the grim weather.

it would be my nightmare to holiday in the uk

It isn't THAT bad!

caughtinanet · 10/08/2021 17:50

@ArseInTheCoOpWindow

Where is it raining non stop? I’m really bemused.

It’s been hot and sunny here again today..,

Here too, I don't get why the OP thinks the whole country has the same weather and that it won't change for a week Confused
Bravesoul · 10/08/2021 17:54

Been speaking with my grandchildren on holiday. It nearly always rains in August when they go on holiday in the UK they make the best of it. I always go to Ireland and it rains all the time but it is so worth it. Mind you I usually go for break in the winter for some sun!

gunnersgold · 10/08/2021 17:54

I wasn't prepared to rush an abroad holiday so very much my choice to holiday here!

mbosnz · 10/08/2021 17:55

Apparently all I had to do to change the weather for the better where I am, was to cook a maccy cheese. . .

Beastieboys · 10/08/2021 17:57

We were in Turkey a couple of years ago and it lashed it down, never been so bloody wet in my life not expecting it so didn't even have a one of those little pocket brollies..... We also have a UK holiday every year and it's mostly dry and this is one bloody lovely country!

Beastieboys · 10/08/2021 17:59

We live in the borders and had rain late on Sunday but its been mostly dry but overcast.... OK by me!

Phyllis321 · 10/08/2021 17:59

I’m in the south midlands and sweltering at the moment.

Plumtree391 · 10/08/2021 17:59

The weather is nice here today and promises to be so for the rest of the week.

@Fitschkels

No pity required!! We are in North Cornwall. It poured the first day we were here. We totally relaxed, went to the big Tescos, did Lego, played Uno and Cluedo, allowed screen time, had long naps, read our books and went for dinner. Such a lovely day and really needed.

Yesterday it brightened up so we went rockpooling for 3 hours and again just relaxed and chilled with each other. Went for dinner. All really lovely.

Off to a major tourist attraction today and looking forward to it.

We were in North Cornwall (Holywell Bay)for two weeks. Came home on Saturday. Loved every minute. We had good weather and sometimes rain but same as you Fitschkels, we had a lego day, played board games, crab fishing. On the better days, we walked to Holywell Bay beach and spent all day in the sea, building sand castles, exploring the sand dunes, playing bowls. Shopped around Truro, Falmouth and a attraction. Rain didn't put us off and still wearing flip flops. Our son's Birthday was last Thursday and it rained most of the day. We played crazy golf/pitch and putt in the rain.. ice-creams on the beach in the rain and then a museum. We had a meal in the evening and our children said it was the best day ever and special memories even when it was raining. Enjoy your Holiday and attraction plus the rest of your Holiday Fitschkels. Enjoy everyone on your Hols. Wished we were back sitting on the beach. Next year!

Bloody GORGEOUS in Wales, having an absolute ball thanks!
26 degrees yesterday.. just lovely.

Jeannie88 · 10/08/2021 18:01

Uh oh, thats our hol this year! Never mind, weather is what it is, rainclothes and wet walks in the country are also lovely! X

Toomuchtrouble4me · 10/08/2021 18:02

It’s lovely down here on the Isle of Wight And loads to do indoor and out. Don’t feel sorry for us, it’s great.

ArabellaScott · 10/08/2021 18:04

YANBU. The UK and especially Scotland is miserable in the rain. And it rains here ALL THE TIME.

speakout · 10/08/2021 18:07

I feel sorry for anyone having a UK holiday and expecting it to be like the Med.
It is possible to have a great holiday in the Uk as long as sunny warm weather is not a prerequiste.
Wet woodland walks, bracing breaches, trips to local attractions, cosy pubs, pubs, site of interest.
Good weather is a bonus, but not to be expected.

DanglingMod · 10/08/2021 18:07

Boiling again today in the Midlands. I'm sure it's barely rained more than a handful of times since June.

midsomermurderess · 10/08/2021 18:09

If you holiday in Britain, for whatever reason, it's always going to be a bit of a weather lottery. We are a windy little archipelago, North Sea there, the Atlantic over that side. It's stunningly beautiful, come prepared, make the most of it.

speakout · 10/08/2021 18:09

he UK and especially Scotland is miserable in the rain. And it rains here ALL THE TIME.

Yes. I am in Scotland- have taken every opportunity to take my kids abroad in the short window when the whole family has time off.
Jumping in cold puddles has limited appeal.

speakout · 10/08/2021 18:11

And the problem is weather can't be planned for in the UK.

Yes I hear of stunning weather this summer, but equally torrential downpours.
If you are stuck in a caravan for a wet week I would rather be at home

ArabellaScott · 10/08/2021 18:12

I mean, aim for the East Coast if you want to get the best chance of dry weather. It's a bit colder, but less wet.

Abraxan · 10/08/2021 18:16

The subs come out today in Cornwall. No dry, lovely sun and been low 20s all day. It's been glorious.
Pity it was so rubbish in Bristol before but fingers crossed it stays nice this week down here. Dd is at a festival consoling nearby from tomorrow so dry is key for here!

Ifeelsuchafool · 10/08/2021 18:20

I feel sorry for people who can't seem to have fun unless they have perfect weather. [Hmm]

I haven't been abroad for more than 10 years. I want the world to still be here for my grandchildren's grandchildren.

I stay local, I eat locally produced food as much as possible. I don't want gas guzzling aeroplanes to ferry me around or ferry my dinner in. I do my best to focus on what I have, not on what I have not.
The furthest I'm going this year is around 250 miles in the UK to see my new born granddaughter.

I don't understand people who will moan one minute about climate change and the next minute board an aeroplane for no other reason than pure pleasure.
Rant over.

kvarstar · 10/08/2021 18:20

I thought the OP was going to be talking about the crowds. The weather is no worse than a normal British summer, in fact apparently according to reports on news yesterday it has actually been drier than average.

There is also a good argument for a staycation by it's proper definition, staying in your own home and doing day trips.

Iwtwab12bow · 10/08/2021 18:23

Oh dear yes. We booked to go to Cornwall in June. It normally takes us about 6 hours, the traffic was awful it took us 11 hours. Everywhere we went was traffic jams. We must have been stuck twice a day. The weather was awful too. We came home early. A nightmare.

maddiemookins16mum · 10/08/2021 18:24

I half agree, the odd wet day is okayish, a week (or 2) of wall to wall gloom and rain is miserable.
