Is it because your an anti vaxxer? Concerned about long term side effects?

OK, seeing as the only reply that has been picked apart had other people zero on one of several reasons that person gave (Xenia did not say queues were the only reason)...

Potential queues is a ridiculous reason for not getting the vaccine. That’s why it’s been zeroed in on.

I understand needle phobia. I disagree that the vaccine have been rushed but I can see how some people think that might be the case. Queues is a ridiculous thing to mention as a factor. Utterly ridiculous.

Xenia mentioned it as one reason... and she might have extreme anxiety about being in a queue. A lot of people do!
Twilight7777 · 07/08/2021 23:10

I can’t actually have the vaccine, due to medical complications and severe allergies, but I do resent the assumption that I’m an anti Vaxxer 😒

CityCommuter · 07/08/2021 23:11

@MyMabel I understand your anxiety but as you're pregnant you really need to get vaccinated once you're past 14 weeks gestation. The reason being is pregnant women have reduced lung capacity as it is and the last thing you want to catch is Covid. For safety reasons (for Mum and baby) medical staff wouldn't be allowed to roll you onto your stomach (prone position) to increase oxygen circulation to help aid breathing. If there is sufficient concern then doctors will choose to deliver baby early as has happened in Northern Ireland this week for 6 babies who are now in special care.

I was always a worrier about taking anything while pregnant but if I was pregnant now I wouldn't hesitate about getting vaccinated in this instance as you're protecting the both of you,

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 07/08/2021 23:11

Waiting until I’m finished breastfeeding

SupermanWithTheGreyHair · 07/08/2021 23:12

I don’t agree with it being tested on animals so haven’t had it. When they create a vaccine that’s cruelty free, I’ll be first in the queue.

shuz1980 · 07/08/2021 23:14

Ive not had the vaccine myself, my main reasons are: im pregnant and don't want it during pregnancy and i feel it was rushed and we don't know about any possible long term side effects. Majority of the adults around me have been vaccinated and was just interested to see if others shared my opinion/thoughts on not wanting the vaccine. Does anyone who's not had it feel the pressure to have the vaccine? I do! Midwifes and dr's are really trying to push it on me.

Byheckythump · 07/08/2021 23:16

When I was pregnant, I wouldn't even take an aspirin

Tinpotspectator · 07/08/2021 23:16

PollyPepper, your sisters opinion is an odd view for a nurse, isn't it?

SupermanWithTheGreyHair · 07/08/2021 23:17

No, I don’t feel any pressure, I’m comfortable with my decision.
Are you thinking you’ll have it when you’ve had your baby? When are you due?

danadas · 07/08/2021 23:19

My 18 year old isn't having it she says. She is similar to a previous poster and sees it as effort and a waste of time. Her friends dont seem to be interested in getting it either (all similar age). I suspect she will if they end up doing them closer to home.

Sorry for my snarky first comment. Am used to people asking what you did as a way to berate them for not having the vaccine.

Yes, I am feeling pressure too. A good friend has cut off contact with me over it (after much verbal abuse too), and that is despite knowing my reasons why. My own dad has also tried emotional blackmail (initially refusing to see me if I don't get it, but he is over that now).

TCMcK · 07/08/2021 23:23

Because I simply don’t want it & no I don’t feel pressured into having it either. My body, my choice.

OhWhyNot · 07/08/2021 23:24

Well at least we have moved on from wanting an explanation as to why posters voted Brexit then demands for an explanation

It was getting very boring

CityCommuter · 07/08/2021 23:26

@shuz1980 midwives and doctors are encouraging you to do the right thing for you and your baby as they know the reality of what can happen sadly... any chest infection while pregnant can potentially be serious let alone Covid because of the reduced lung capacity.

You say you're worried the vaccine has been rushed out. Look at it this way instead - never before have so many top scientists from all around the world worked tirelessly on inventing a vaccine all at the same time in order to save people's lives. I read people were sceptical about the polio vaccine and other childhood ones when they first came out - now they're standard without a second thought!

Jupiterscallisto · 07/08/2021 23:27

The only people I know who have chosen to not be vaccinated is for pregnancy related reasons. I've had it - hoping I mutate into a superhero.

JesusIsAnyNameFree · 07/08/2021 23:27

@Dreamstate

Erm its a personal choice, you have no riut to know why someone doesn't want to inject something into their body.

Do you go round asking smokers why they still smoke? Or why people eat junk food when its not good for their bodies?

Oh yeah its none of your business thats why!

Biscuit

She isn't demanding answers, she's asking a question and you're free to respond or walk away.

Your reaction to the question quite clearly shows you know your decision is a shit one, by the way. Anyone sure of their choice would not react like this 😂

SupermanWithTheGreyHair · 07/08/2021 23:29

I've had it - hoping I mutate into a superhero.

🤣 Any encouraging signs yet?

Cheerfulcharlie · 07/08/2021 23:30

I don’t class myself as anti vax - I’ve had lots of other vaccines, as have my children. I don’t believe that there’s any conspiracy to control or harm us. I may well still get the covid jab, still undecided.

I work from home, don’t tend to go to many crowded places in my day to day life. I’m not particularly at risk and have had two of my household have it (one in 2020, and the other a couple of months ago) and not caught it.

I just can’t get past the worry of the unknown long term side effects. They say they have rigorously tested this vaccine as they have done the stages in parallel whereas usually they would have to wait for each stage to be approved before moving on to the next. But they just can’t possibly know the long term effects can they? Or the effects on pregnancy and long term effect on the babies or fertility (not that this aspect is personally relevant to me as I’m in my early 40s.. ) Or any aspect of our health for that matter. They just can’t be sure. And that is why I’m so hesitant. I'm not sure what information I could look for to reassure me, other than waiting it out, even then if there was an issue, there would potentially be a cover up .

I would never try to influence anyone either way to get the vaccine. It’s such a personal choice and I accept I’m more hesitant than most generally with medication. I do have respect to those who have had it, especially those that had it in the early days and in some ways I wish I could be more heroic /altruistic about it.

shuz1980 · 07/08/2021 23:32

I won't give into the pressure. I have my reasons and they should be respected but I don't feel they are. Just today alone I've had a call AND a text from my dr's informing me of walk in sessions for the vaccine. Today i have heard people are being bribed with things to get the vaccine. @SupermanWithTheGreyHair im due Dec. Im breastfeeding baby so still won't be having vaccine. @XenoBitch, it's ok. My brother 'can't believe' I don't want the vaccine and thinks im just an 'anti vaxxer'. It sad that you've lost a friend over it. I just don't understand why people can't respect other's decisions not to have it.

OhWhyNot · 07/08/2021 23:34

If MN was open to have discussions about people’s choices people wouldn’t be so defensive about their decision.

But MN isn’t like all social media it becomes polarised and the name calling or insults start

Op knows this

DinkyDiggies · 07/08/2021 23:36

Ok, I’ve had a glass of wine, so I’ll give it a bite too. I think this is really nuanced and many people will have different reasons; but I don’t like the push, the mandates, the shaming for anyone who says they don’t want it. I’m an awkward old cuss, the coercion around this is almost enough to not take it all.

My main reason is around 50 per cent of people I know have had really bad side effects from it, 24-36 hours of feeling totally wiped out. For many people this is all that covid is, so I’ll take a 1:300 plus chance of catching it and being ill for a few days, against a 50/50 of being ill for a few days.
Plus no one knows the long term effects, not even the scientists. Call me ‘the control group’
And, before anyone parps up with oh you might die, you might be really sick the covid calculator estimates about 1:5000 of me being hospitalised, and about 1:83,000 of dying. www.bhf.org.uk/informationsupport/heart-matters-magazine/news/coronavirus-and-your-health/how-to-find-out-your-risk-when-it-comes-to-coronavirus
To put that in context, I’m about 3 times more likely to kill myself than die of covid.
Also, the folks who are going to say ‘this isn’t just about you’, please don’t bother. This is about me. My body my choice.. my health mine, and I’m old enough and difficult enough to absolutely not ‘take one for team’.
Selfish? No, I wasn’t the one who was doing gain of function tests in Wuhan because they’d been made illegal in my country . You want selfish... Point your fingers at the proper culprits.

TheCanyon · 07/08/2021 23:37

I only got it only incase of holiday requirements, otherwise I wouldn't have bothered. Dh is on the shielding list too.

Sil and bil had to travel between USE, balearics and UK, bil only got 2 days to see his sons in the uk. Both double vaccinated by February but the chinapharm vaccine is not recognised...

Jupiterscallisto · 07/08/2021 23:38

@SupermanWithTheGreyHair Not even an improved tolerance to alcohol.

SupermanWithTheGreyHair · 07/08/2021 23:41

shuz1980

Your decision should be respected. I keep getting texts about booking the vaccine too, just ignore them, I do. You have to do what you’re comfortable with.
Some of my family and friends have had the vaccine, some haven’t. Lots I just don’t have a clue, it’s their business.
