To lock the jackass in (parking thread)

I live in a rural location which is very popular with walkers / bikers / horse riders etc. It's heaving today for some unknown reason as the weather is rubbish!

We have 2 driveways. One which was with the original cottage then a small bit of garden then a second which leads to the additional land we have. The second driveway the forestry commission have a ROW over as the track continues up into the forest. Next to that driveway is a footpath. Both driveways have gates at either end and both say private property/dogs running loose. (Diagram attached - not to scale!)

I have just had a straw delivery and so opened the second driveway gates to let the farmer in and trundled round the back to show him where to put them. He's unloaded and driven off and I've gone to lock the gates back up. Literally as he's driven off and I'm walking down a guy has pulled in the gates and parked up and 3 kids have jumped out and he started unloading their bikes.

I politely ask him to move as he's on private land and he says there are no signs he thought it was a parking spot. I say they are on the gate and it's clearly an enclosed piece of land that is not a parking space and he says he couldn't see them as the gates were open but he'll only be a few minutes. No problem, I say, I'll pop back and shut the gates in 5. Off I toddle.

I have returned and his car is still there and he has gone. He has left a note on the windscreen which says "had to park here no other spaces". I mean WTF?!

WIBU to shut the gates, padlock the fucker in, block the gates with my truck AND then disappear for at least 48 hours?

[Blinky21] Are you his wife? Don't make excuses for him. He is a mega CF.

EKGEMS · 31/07/2021 17:31

@yeOldeTrout That's a pretty intolerant post you've written

Nanny0gg · 31/07/2021 17:32

@BlueEyesWhiteDragon

DB has just sent me a pic of what is waiting for me in the kitchen! Toby carvery I love you. Hes perhaps not put enough potatoes on there but I might be some time!

Hope you all sufficiently jealous!

Do all Tobys do takeaways??
BlueEyesWhiteDragon · 31/07/2021 17:32

Sorry am in an absolute food coma!

Nothing to report. Hes not been back. I can't imagine they still out biking so am at a complete loss.

When you are thinking about how to behave - remember that he got to park for free all day AND that he deliberately lied to you about the '5 mins'.

I'd say - get on with your weekend.
Agree - if you want to let him go, do tell him you will be out there with the key in '5 mins'... 5 mins clearly means something different to his family. Fit in with his culture.

lastcall · 31/07/2021 17:33

I'd put the truck back and then have a couple glasses of wine if you haven't already.

Fuck him

kitkatsky · 31/07/2021 17:34

@BlueEyesWhiteDragon please promise that if this thread gets full up that you'll post an update?

bluebeck · 31/07/2021 17:35

I reckon they decided to cycle home - might not have been from far away.

He will be back at some point though - and you won't be in will you OP? Grin

Twitchynose · 31/07/2021 17:35

OP have you left his note on his car? If so them would be worth getting a photo of it as it demonstrates that he knew he shouldn’t be parking there, but chose to anyway.

MaMelon · 31/07/2021 17:35

My money is on him phoning his wife to come and get him and the kids, and then he’ll be back with her sometime later this evening to tell you how unreasonable you’ve been before driving his truck off in a huff.
I’d not open the door if I were you, but then I’m very stubborn.

Sitchervice · 31/07/2021 17:36

It's half 5 and they are still not back. Could they have called a cab or called for help and just left the car there for tomorrow/abandoned it for good out of embarrassment.

tintodeverano2 · 31/07/2021 17:36

You should've written on the note: Sorry I did ask you to move, gone on holiday. See you in a fortnight!

QueenStromba · 31/07/2021 17:36

Definitely put the truck back and start drinking. I bet his wife will knock on your door in the morning and apologise for her husband being an arse.

KarlUrbansWife · 31/07/2021 17:37

@BlueEyesWhiteDragon we're probably going to run out of thread space before he gets back 😫
You must update on a second thread if it comes to it. I don't think I've ever been so invested in a thread!

caughtinanet · 31/07/2021 17:37

Maybe they're gone to the cavery Grin

JudgeJ · 31/07/2021 17:38

@Blinky21

Leave him be if it's a one off and he's not blocking you in or harming anyone, life's too short, he's just out with his kids and it's been a tough year
Of course, let's all play the 'be nice' card, maybe the OP should have ordered enough from the carvery to feed him and the sprogs, after they've had a lovely hot shower using the OP's favourite shower gel and wetting all the towels. Now that would be being nce.
ZenNudist · 31/07/2021 17:38

How bizarre. Can you levy a fine to recover his car 😃

SixesAndEights · 31/07/2021 17:38

Perhaps they've cycled home and, to play you at your own game, he's just going to leave it there for a couple of days. I'd leave him to it. He'll need it for Monday I expect.

bluebeck · 31/07/2021 17:38

Oh yes! Do this!
Opalfeet · 31/07/2021 17:39

Placemarking

Thewinterofdiscontent · 31/07/2021 17:40

I’d be mortified if I parked in someone’s private drive. The “it’s a tough year” is covered by the Op letting it go and giving him a few minutes to repack and leave instead of giving him a hard time.

Love that you have dogs. Maybe the penny has dropped now that’s it’s someone’s private space.

ragged · 31/07/2021 17:40

When will you need to use your Drive2 again, OP?

JudgeJ · 31/07/2021 17:40

@Sitchervice

It's half 5 and they are still not back. Could they have called a cab or called for help and just left the car there for tomorrow/abandoned it for good out of embarrassment.
Or maybe it's a stolen car, he pinched it to take the children cycling and they're now gone home in a different stolen vehicle, now parked blocking a neighbour's drive.
RandomMess · 31/07/2021 17:41

They've cycled to the carvery and having dinner.

NoSquirrels · 31/07/2021 17:42

He’s called his wife, who’s refused to pick him up and told him to cycle home with the kids so she can show him the thread on MN about him bring a knobhead parking twat… they’re currently having a row about her refusing to give him a lift back up the hill to get his car…
