To lock the jackass in (parking thread)

I live in a rural location which is very popular with walkers / bikers / horse riders etc. It's heaving today for some unknown reason as the weather is rubbish!

We have 2 driveways. One which was with the original cottage then a small bit of garden then a second which leads to the additional land we have. The second driveway the forestry commission have a ROW over as the track continues up into the forest. Next to that driveway is a footpath. Both driveways have gates at either end and both say private property/dogs running loose. (Diagram attached - not to scale!)

I have just had a straw delivery and so opened the second driveway gates to let the farmer in and trundled round the back to show him where to put them. He's unloaded and driven off and I've gone to lock the gates back up. Literally as he's driven off and I'm walking down a guy has pulled in the gates and parked up and 3 kids have jumped out and he started unloading their bikes.

I politely ask him to move as he's on private land and he says there are no signs he thought it was a parking spot. I say they are on the gate and it's clearly an enclosed piece of land that is not a parking space and he says he couldn't see them as the gates were open but he'll only be a few minutes. No problem, I say, I'll pop back and shut the gates in 5. Off I toddle.

I have returned and his car is still there and he has gone. He has left a note on the windscreen which says "had to park here no other spaces". I mean WTF?!

WIBU to shut the gates, padlock the fucker in, block the gates with my truck AND then disappear for at least 48 hours?

@BlueEyesWhiteDragon

I think he may be brazening me out

They've just been back, put the bags back and cycled off again.

I mean this is a fun game and all but is he expecting the gates to magically open?

Ooh you need to out stubborn him OP!! He’s taking absolute liberties. Imagine just dumping your car on someone’s drive and going about your day!! Twat.
giletrouge · 31/07/2021 14:42

The kids will get fed up with all that cycling OP. Wait it out.

Notaroadrunner · 31/07/2021 14:43

Even if you move the truck you still cannot unlock the gate for insurance purposes so he's still stuck there. If you wish to move the truck to its regular parking spot, assuming it's not via that gate, then do that. You can always say you needed to bring the truck into the drive where he had parked to do a job and he's blocked you and therefore has cost you an afternoons work - though he probably won't give a damn.

Yep
Raffleyourdoughnut · 31/07/2021 14:43

Enjoy your takeaway!

JackOfGentleman · 31/07/2021 14:43

Time to completely cut off their access to the car!

dapsnotplimsolls · 31/07/2021 14:43

Do.Not.Cave. 😁

KarlUrbansWife · 31/07/2021 14:43

Is his car in your way? Who would it inconvenience more if it was still there in a few days?
If he's brazening it out I'd be tempted to just carry on with life, leaving your number on his windscreen.

YoTheGinPussyOfThigh · 31/07/2021 14:43

I hope the weather is better with you OP than where I am. The storm is positively biblical, thunder, lightening, the works. Wouldn't like to be out picnicking in the woods. Oh well CF and children have got a nice dry car to return to so they can drive home for soothing baths etc.

Oh but wait, there seems to be a problem with that idea..........

SixesAndEights · 31/07/2021 14:44

Now's the moment to sent your brother for the takeaway, then leave the truck the other way around when he comes back.

They've obviously had a cycle, then had a picnic lunch, and now another cycle. They can't keep going forever.

You're at home, you can keep going for days if you want.

CircusMistress · 31/07/2021 14:44

There's no way I'd be letting him out now. I'd send your brother to the door if he knocks and feign ignorance on when the lady he spoke to will be back to tend horses and open the gate.

Probably!

Is turn your truck around now just for the fun of him noticing when he returns.

You can do it whilst your DN gets a takeout carvery - which sounds amazing!

Just imagine how his little heart must have sank when he saw the gates were still locked

Suchatiredpigeon · 31/07/2021 14:45

Loving the diagrams! What a lovely amount of space your doggos have too...so where are the pooch pics? 😉
What a CF! Def charge him for parking!

fluffedup · 31/07/2021 14:45

Let your DB take the truck and get the carvery takeaway.

When he comes back with the truck, if the CF is there, DB should deny all knowledge and say 'I only parked here because there's nowhere else to park'.

NeedNewKnees · 31/07/2021 14:45

Jesus, the CF! Call the police to tow an abandonned vehicle that's trespassing later today?

And definitely hit the sauce with DB.

SixesAndEights · 31/07/2021 14:46

And don't answer the door when he knocks/rings.

He's thinking he'll just go about his day then come and ring when it's convenient for him and you'll let him out then.

If you do that, he's had free, secure parking all day at no inconvenience to himself.

WhereYouLeftIt · 31/07/2021 14:46

Takeout carvery!

Dullardmullard · 31/07/2021 14:47

He’s hoping you’ll give in and open the gates for him but you know you can’t for insurance reason the tosser

Ooohhh I like this - that's genius!

Especially as he may think "the horse woman" may not be back until early Sunday or even Monday!

This!

What a ridiculously immature person he is. Too childish to park in the car park, too childish to back down and move his car when you asked. Now too childish to knock and apologise.

Stand your ground OP! His actions have consequences!

Something like this. Your brother can say she'll be back the same time tomorrow, as she usually comes round at the same time. Then when asked about the car/gates, brother should just say, sorry mate, can't help you, you'll have to come back tomorrow.
stonebrambleboy · 31/07/2021 14:49

I love this thread, don't cave !!

CrotchetyQuaver · 31/07/2021 14:49

Goodness he's brazenibg it out as per your update. Whatever you do, don't move the car yourself, he'll likely claim all sorts of damage has been done. Just thinking ahead to how long he might be blocking your access for. Might be worth considering how to deal with things if you need to use that gate yourself... maybe worth calling forestry commission (if it's their track)/police for advice. You might need them to organise removal of it?

Bargebill19 · 31/07/2021 14:51

I have brazenly parked my bum here. Sorry but op you are awesome.
