To lock the jackass in (parking thread)

I live in a rural location which is very popular with walkers / bikers / horse riders etc. It's heaving today for some unknown reason as the weather is rubbish!

We have 2 driveways. One which was with the original cottage then a small bit of garden then a second which leads to the additional land we have. The second driveway the forestry commission have a ROW over as the track continues up into the forest. Next to that driveway is a footpath. Both driveways have gates at either end and both say private property/dogs running loose. (Diagram attached - not to scale!)

I have just had a straw delivery and so opened the second driveway gates to let the farmer in and trundled round the back to show him where to put them. He's unloaded and driven off and I've gone to lock the gates back up. Literally as he's driven off and I'm walking down a guy has pulled in the gates and parked up and 3 kids have jumped out and he started unloading their bikes.

I politely ask him to move as he's on private land and he says there are no signs he thought it was a parking spot. I say they are on the gate and it's clearly an enclosed piece of land that is not a parking space and he says he couldn't see them as the gates were open but he'll only be a few minutes. No problem, I say, I'll pop back and shut the gates in 5. Off I toddle.

I have returned and his car is still there and he has gone. He has left a note on the windscreen which says "had to park here no other spaces". I mean WTF?!

WIBU to shut the gates, padlock the fucker in, block the gates with my truck AND then disappear for at least 48 hours?

This is a cracking CF parking thread, and this is a shameless placemark. Do whatever means CF will be locked in and inconvenienced for the longest time! I'd be tempted to cave if the kids started to get upset though

SemiFeralDalek · 31/07/2021 14:19

Put the dogs away, leave a note on the windscreen with your number and go out.

When he phones, say "I'll only be 5 minutes" and then turn up, what are we up to now, two and a half hours later?

What's good for the gander is sauce for the attack goose or whatever the saying is Grin

StarCourt · 31/07/2021 14:19

This entitled man needs to be shown he can't just do what he wants when he wants. And so do his kids

DepressedDD · 31/07/2021 14:22

@BlueEyesWhiteDragon

I don't know if this is a victory. They have cycled off again into the woods the other side. They went up the back gate and obviously realised the dogs can't get out the garden. A child has gone over the front gate got a couple of bags out the boot and they have taken those with them.
Maybe they’ve cycled home and have just abandoned the car?
bravotango · 31/07/2021 14:22

Shameless placemark here! Stay strong OP, you are fast becoming a MN legend

Notebooksarefabulous · 31/07/2021 14:23

Place marking. This is excellent work op. Well done.

nauticant · 31/07/2021 14:24

What's this with leaving notes for the twat?

It's about the moral high ground. That's more important than doing stuff to create the most entertaining drama for this thread. If the twat calls the Police and they turn up (look at the other thread where they did) the OP wants to look like the reasonable person.

BlueEyesWhiteDragon · 31/07/2021 14:24

Ha I do really really want a carvery now. It will be out first one since this time last year!! But.... we are booked in to go tomorrow (birthday celebration hence why DB is down from Scotland) and I can't change that so I suppose the new AIBU is

AIBU to have a carvery 2 days in row? Now for advance warning anyone who say I am I am going to disagree with you. This is a clearly a post where I am right and anyone who disagrees is an idiot lol.

I think I'm going to send DB to get one as a takeout. Saturdays are my lazy day and I don't really want to drag myself up and out. I might let him take my truck and park it the other way when he gets back though 😆

Are there signs on the gate saying private property etc? Definitely think you should go out but thinking he will call the police so wonder what they will say to him (hearing only his version of events)

Howdidigetsoold · 31/07/2021 14:26

Don’t move the truck but do all have a good drink with your takeaway!

GoldBar · 31/07/2021 14:26

I'd go have a long bath. Take a glass of wine and a book.

kensington09 · 31/07/2021 14:28

I think you should go with C.

You told him it was private land so he was fully aware at that point even if it was a genuine mistake beforehand (although I doubt that!)

A normal person, at that point, would have loaded everyone back into the car & kept driving around until they did find a parking space. Instead he lied to you & left his car on your land obviously thinking he could do as he pleased.

By going with option C, and actually making him see there are consequences to his ridiculous behaviour maybe he'll think twice next time & not inconvenience others to make his own life easier

LakieLady · 31/07/2021 14:29

Maybe they’ve cycled home and have just abandoned the car?

If they abandon their car when it's blocking someone's drive, preventing the landowner from moving animals and equipment, then that car needs the birdseed treatment.

Staffholidayclubrep · 31/07/2021 14:29

The CF has bloody trespassed on your land - think he needs to understand that. You are not running a car park.

Let him sweat it out. He can pay a release fee (take away / charity contribution) as you will have to move truck and open the gate.

DingDongThongs · 31/07/2021 14:29

any updates OP?

MargosKaftan · 31/07/2021 14:31

Right its been 2.5hours since he had 5 minutes.

Go out.

Leave a note on the car:
"Gates have to be locked for insurance purposes. We waited over 2 hours but have had to go to another appointment. Please call xxxxxx when you are ready to move your car."

Nice and civil so you have the higher ground and take photos.

Then go off to the carvery or just for a nice long trip out yourself. When he calls, be sure to say its going to be over half an hour for you to return.

Not rude, not petty.

kensington09 · 31/07/2021 14:32

But takeaway carvery sounds good too 😋

You don't have to actually be out to not jump at this CF's entitled behaviour as soon as he asks.

Just because he's ready to be able to get out doesn't mean you have to let him out as soon as he wants. He wasn't so ready to move his car as soon as you asked. Return the favour!

memberofthewedding · 31/07/2021 14:33

Fuck 'being the bigger person'. Fuck 'the moral high ground' and double fuck with bells on 'be kind

Love revenge threads.

MotionActivatedDog · 31/07/2021 14:35

“Gates have to be locked for insurance purposes. We waited over 2 hours but have had to go to another appointment. Please call xxxxxx when you are ready to move your car.”

This. With the addition of “release fee: £250”

dapsnotplimsolls · 31/07/2021 14:36

I really hope his wife/ex-wife turns up to rescue the kids and gives him an absolute earful!

No, it's about women being trained to be nice no matter what.

There's no need for a note. No need to tell him anything. The police, should they be involved, aren't going to give a toss about notes.

HeReWeGoAgAiN1112 · 31/07/2021 14:39

LOVE this thread! It’s actually stopped me doing the food shop as I don’t want to miss anything 😂

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 31/07/2021 14:39

Golly - when I saw what time the first post on this thread was, @BlueEyesWhiteDragon, I was sure it would be all over by now - I see I was wrong!

Btw - I vote C - I do love a carvery.

MeridianB · 31/07/2021 14:39

YADNBU OP. And I totally agree that if you were a man he would have moved straight away. I cannot get over the shameless behaviour of these people!

I vote for C! 🍗

BlueEyesWhiteDragon · 31/07/2021 14:40

I think he may be brazening me out

They've just been back, put the bags back and cycled off again.

I mean this is a fun game and all but is he expecting the gates to magically open?
