How many duvet covers do you own?

CorrieALanus · 27/07/2021 16:15

Not a TAAT but obliquely inspired.

I own 3 but only use 2. None are themed in any way, quite plain.

So you have themes? Seasonal duvet covers? Where do you store them, how often do you change/rotate them and when do you get rid?

2 sets for the beds in constant use. 1 set for spare bed.

strawberrydonuts · 27/07/2021 16:28

Wow, I never knew a special Christmas duvet set was such a popular thing!

I have two for each bed and try not to buy more "just because" or "fancy a change", I think that is very wasteful. I'd use them for years before replacing.

Ohdofuckofdear · 27/07/2021 16:29

I have several, having new bedding on my bed and having a new super soft nightie on(chemise type nightie)is a real treat to me(that makes me seem super nerdy and boring I am nerdy)because I'm chronically ill and disabled.

Seasonal I have sets that are more spring/summer and sets that are more Autumn/winter.

The only theme one's I have are Christmassy one's.

I store them all in a huge storage box in my airing cupboard upstairs.

Change bedding(as in put fresh bedding on the bed)every Friday.

Change/rotate them,when ever I feel like a change.

Get rid couldn't tell you because it hasn't happened yet.

CorrieALanus · 27/07/2021 16:29

Do you use them all Starry? I seem to be overrun with linen and towels but really not so much in comparison. The kids definitely have more. Possibly 4 each?

3 per bed because we have young children who maybe ill or have accidents. The DDs have large Hermes drawers in their rooms and their bedding stands up on its side in there. This year I bought us all Christmas bedding but that stays in the loft for the rest of the year.

LittleGwyneth · 27/07/2021 16:29

I think we have six for our bed but only use three of them. I like to change the vibe of the room.

RoseZinfandel · 27/07/2021 16:30

3 cotton covers. They aren't themed but two are patterned.
1 brushed cotton cover for very cold weather - kept in a zipped bag at the top of the wardrobe with the thicker winter duvet. It has a sort of fair isle pattern.
1 lightweight cotton knitted blanket (plain, cream), used instead of a duvet in very hot weather, and in addition to duvet in very cold weather.

Dc each have 2 standard cotton duvet covers, (brightly patterned, from the children's section), 2 brushed cotton covers, (also patterned, most have pictures of animals), a fleece blanket (plain bold colours) and a cotton knitted blanket (multicoloured), but unlike us they just have one 7 tog duvet rather than different winter and summer ones.
I usually pack their fleece blankets and brushed cotton duvets away for the season with their winter clothes, in a box in the loft.

3 sets used on a Rota. They're all Matthew Williamson and feature exotic (not tropical) birds, flowers and Paisley designs. One of the designs love so much I also have shower curtains and towels in two different colour ways. Sadly discontinued😬

strawberrydonuts · 27/07/2021 16:31

@GertietheGherkin

I've got loads 😬 and I mean LOADS 😃

There's just soooo many pretty ones out there, it's just so tempting to buy yet another.

I don't have seasonal ones, but they all have a similar colourway to them.

I'm starting to wonder now of there's such thing as a duvet cover addiction 😂

Probably.

I can see the temptation, but just like fast fashion or buying too many clothes, this is very bad for the environment.

Better to buy one or two that you really love and keep them.

soapylaces · 27/07/2021 16:31

2-3 per bed. No seasonal bedding.

Quornflakegirl · 27/07/2021 16:31

I have 3 cooler summery ones, 1 seasonal Christmassy one, 1 super warm winter one. Kids have the same. So in total we own 10 sets.

StarryStarrySocks · 27/07/2021 16:32

@CorrieALanus

I tend to use the same 3 or 4 in regular rotation. But I can't bring myself to get rid of the others. Some of them are about 15 years old now but I still love the design.
Essentialironingwater · 27/07/2021 16:34

Enough for each bed plus 2 spare, so 5 for 3 doubles then a 3-4 sets for the toddler bed. We are about to get a superking delivered though, yippee.

I just buy plain white, best quality I can afford whenever I buy them, so I can hot wash them and hang them in the sun without worrying about fading. I don't really like patterned ones anyway. Most will look a bit naff once a couple of seasons of homeware fashion pass.

gogohm · 27/07/2021 16:35

Too many, 3 double (for one room)and 8+ king size (2 rooms) of which we use 2 in ours in rotation. Cleared out previous homes and couldn't justify getting rid as very expensive brands

OhGiveUp · 27/07/2021 16:35

I have several sets for my bed, we have our own duvet, mattress and sheets. I don't have seasonal ones, they're all black satin.
The spare beds have my old bedding on them.
Lots of spare used sets in the cupboard.

RandomUsernameHere · 27/07/2021 16:35

11 for a family of 4. 2 for each bed, 2 Christmas ones and 3 random ones that get used as spares or for guests.

Sapnupuas · 27/07/2021 16:35

I asked to see the autumn bedding in case I need it. I'm not really sure what it is!

Christmas covers go on in the first week of December. Alternative weekly. Taken off between Boxing Day and New Years. I don't like the Christmas decorations still being out in the new year.

Abraxan · 27/07/2021 16:36

Only a couple now.

We have 4 coverless duvets for the 4 beds we have.

We then have one spare duvet, just incase and one duvet cover for that.

Oh, and we have a Christmas themed duvet cover which DD puts over her coverless duvet in December.

megletthesecond · 27/07/2021 16:36

I have two. Neither are seasonal.

My dc's have about 3 each plus an Xmas cover.

Mintjulia · 27/07/2021 16:37

I have 3 double beds & a single.

Two single duvet sets. Four white double duvet sets, four double sets of various colours. Assorted extra pillowcases.

StarryStarrySocks · 27/07/2021 16:37

I also have an excessive amount of nighties/pyjamas now I think about it, the two obsessions must be related!
I am making a conscious effort not to buy any more of either.

Neondisco · 27/07/2021 16:38

We use two duvets for our bed. It's amazing! So need double, I change them weekly. So I have 6 in case the previously used set isn't clean to put on and nice to have choice.

No themes, but I'm more than happy for people to theme their bedding!

Fuggly · 27/07/2021 16:40

2 summer and 2 winter for our bed. 2 summer and 1 winter for spare beds.

However, nighties and PJs - absolutely loads!! I demoted some to cleaning cloths a few weeks ago and still have 2 drawers stuffed full.

seven201 · 27/07/2021 16:40

Where do people store all this extra bedding? I really thought I was being ott buying my 4 year old dd an xmas duvet!

LordOfTheThings · 27/07/2021 16:41

Two for our bed. DS has a coverless duvet so the whole thing goes in the machine once a week. DD has about three for her bed. Both DS have Christmas ones that they were given when they were young and both still have them on in December.
