How many duvet covers do you own?

CorrieALanus · 27/07/2021 16:15

Not a TAAT but obliquely inspired.

I own 3 but only use 2. None are themed in any way, quite plain.

So you have themes? Seasonal duvet covers? Where do you store them, how often do you change/rotate them and when do you get rid?

  1. The themed bedding thing seems to be a thing in You Tube lifestyle & decor channels. I always assumed it was a desperate for content thing. You prob run out of things to talk about if you don't change up stuff like that a lot.
TheGoogleMum · 28/07/2021 19:28

DD has 3 sets. Not seasonal. We have about 4 I think? Also not seasonal. Realistically we only need 2 (one on the bed, one in the wash/ready to put on) but we've gathered a few extras

MrsClatterbuck · 28/07/2021 19:54

5 including two brushed cotton ones for winter. These are for two beds one of which is the spare bed. But I have discovered patterned duvets which do not need covers. Brilliant. I have one still in it's package and will use it when some of the others are done. When I see lovely duvet covers in shops I really have to exercise my willpower.

PaperMonster · 28/07/2021 20:00

Four. Two I only use when it’s colder as one’s brushed cotton and the other one’s a teddy bear one (which is a bugger to store!)

casualnamechange · 28/07/2021 20:06

I’d say maybe 8? 10?
I have some seasonal ones in that I have very light ones I use in summer but I don’t not use them other times. I have a nice red one I use at Christmas, and then a lovely autumn brushed cotton one with squirrels and foxes. Plus another grey floral brushed cotton… and some teddy fleece ones… so basically quite a few I only use in the cooler months. Most of them are second hand from my mum and really nice quality. I can’t afford the kind of quality I like brand new!

Onlyherefortheconspiracies · 29/07/2021 07:36

4 for my 1 double bed that I sleep in (mostly) alone. Single and childfree.

2 I think of as summer as they're pale and a grey one for Autumn. Also have a Christmas one that goes on in Dec 1st and I wash, dry and put back on for the month. Love bedding and buy lots and get rid fairly regularly as I buy cheap and replace. Not a popu lar view on here but it always looks gorgeous. Wash weekly and store in my big cupboard.

Lanique · 29/07/2021 07:41

Hmm let me think.

Four sets of superking
Six sets of King (between two beds)
Three sets of double

Plus others that are no longer in action. Blush

I have a weakness for gorgeous bedding.

HelloChompy · 29/07/2021 08:24

We have three, we rotate between two for most of the year. Our third one is a seasonal one but it is more wintery than Christmas so gets used between November - February. When that one is on I try and time it for a day when we can wash / dry and get that set back on the bed the same day. Change the bedding once a week. Store in the airing cupboard. Get rid when it is getting tatty.

Youdiditanyway · 29/07/2021 08:32

About 6 I think. Have a plain white one which is my favourite, three different leaf print ones, a Dalmatian spot style one and we have a Christmas one (it isn’t a tacky one, it’s plain white with small green trees all over it).

househousehousefox · 29/07/2021 21:49

2 double beds 1 single.
I have 3 doubles and 2 single sets.
We had a horrible case of family diarrhea and vomiting and we didn't have enough sheets or covers for all of the vomit and more. in the end I got all the new sleeping bags out and they were promptly christened. Blush

lljkk · 30/07/2021 09:58

I am just clocking fact that most people seem to only have one duvet per bed. In winter I can have up to 3 per bed. I need layers to get the temps right.

PattyPan · 30/07/2021 11:06

We have a winter duvet and a summer duvet. Too hot for summer duvet = flat sheet. Too cold for winter duvet = blanket on top but that’s very rare. We’d be more likely to wear extra clothes than put more than one extra blanket due to temperature disparity between me and DP.

I have a summer 4 tog and winter 7 tog but also a weighted blanket that was put away in May.
kowari · 30/07/2021 15:29

On hot summer nights I have my arms and legs out of the quilt, I can't sleep uncovered. I struggle with just a sheet as it isn't heavy enough, though I've had to resort to that overseas when it hasn't dropped below the twenties overnight.

purplesequins · 30/07/2021 15:31

about 3 sets per bed,

luckylavender · 30/07/2021 15:33

Quite a lot. No seasonal ones.

HaroldTheHare · 30/07/2021 15:35

We have loads, non seasonal & we keep in a glass doored armoir in our bedroom
We have 2 double beds & a super king sized bed & at least 5 or 6 sets for each bed.
I really must do a cull (so I can justify new ones! )

FlyingPandas · 30/07/2021 15:38

12 in total (for a household of 5)

2 kingsize sets for us - both identical, just need one spare for when the other set is in the wash. I like our room to look the same so different patterned sets of bedding would stress me right out. I realise that sounds odd.

6 regularly used single sets (two each of the DC).

Two double sets for spare room bed.

Plus two random old single bed duvet covers kept in case of emergency/sleepovers etc.

Most of our bedding is old, DC3 for example has the original Lego and Pokemon duvets sets bought for DS1 15 years ago. I bought new bedding for us when we ‘upgraded’ to a kingsize bed but that was 5 years ago and it’ll easily do us another 5. I don’t really understand the passion some people have for changing bed sets all the time. But my DM would happily buy new bedding every year!

Rolothecat · 02/08/2021 23:10

5 sets for me as I get sick of the same and like to switch around, 3 sets each for the kids, 1 of those are a bit young for them now but handy if I’m not on top of the washing😊

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 02/08/2021 23:13

4 sets for our bed, and about 8 single duvets for the spare beds. I like a well stocked linen cupboardGrin

Fros · 03/08/2021 00:10

Too many to admit to, however at least half of them are inherited from my mother or grandmother - both

No holiday themed ones like Xmas/Hallowe'en, but I have found I tend to reach for the thin light coloured fabric with flowers in summer, and the dark thick and heavy ones in winter

FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop · 03/08/2021 00:13

3, but they were expensive so I limit how many I hve

Inertia · 03/08/2021 00:14

3 sets for our bed, and the kids have 2 each. We also have some for spare beds/ sofa beds , and kids old sets from before their rooms were redecorated and bed sizes changed. I also found a vacuum pack at the back of DC1’s wardrobe, containing the long-forgotten kids duvet covers from when they were little (I’d meant to pass them on or include them in a car boot sale, but just forgot about them).

Just tallied up in my head, reckon it’s 33 altogether. Apart from the 8 rediscovered ones, the rest do get used for visitors , kids sleepovers etc.

Nat6999 · 03/08/2021 00:32

I have probably 7 or 8 for my bed, ds has 6 but 3 need throwing away as they are either Bob the Builder or Diggers, I kept them for emergencies but as he is getting a double bed shortly they will either be binned or cut up in to dusters.

Confusedandshaken · 03/08/2021 10:53

2 for each bed. Not seasonal. When I buy a new one I recycle or otherwise dispose of the old one. My mum is a hoarder and I am desperate not to repeat her behaviour.

One very bright patterned pure cotton set was used by a friend to make hundreds of face masks that she distributed throughout our neighbourhood. I subsequently sat on a train opposite a complete stranger wearing a face mask made of my old duvet cover. That was odd. Another set made of very soft ivory Egyptian cotton has been used by another friend for lining beautiful smocked dresses she makes for her GC and charities.
