Isolating and binge watching couples come dine with me!

Would love to hear from anyone who has been on about what ifs really like behind the scenes!

Also.. if you were going to go on what would your menu be?!

I think I would keep it simple with:

Starter: sweet chilli king prawns and chorizo on a bed of rocket with home made bread.

Main: mozzarella and pesto stuffed chicken wrapped in Parma ham, with tendersteam broccoli and green beans and crushed roasted baby potatoes.

Desert: chocolate torte.

@Mammyloveswine if you get through I’d lose the stuffed chicken wrapped in ham, it’s always commented on as, nice but not dinner party food.

I know a couple who were on, totally cringe, they are quite musical and kept bringing out instruments. I think they’ve regretted it.

@TheRealMrsGrissom

Anyone remember this classic week 😁
No, what happened?
Mammyloveswine · 25/07/2021 17:01

@FAQs ooh bot sure what else I'd do!

Maybe a hassleback chicken then stuffed with mozzarella and sundried tomatoes? With the spicy tomato sauce to compliment my veggie/vegan options?

I hope Ch 4 pay for a cab home even if it is a mini cab.
I always dislike the bright light when eating. I guess it’s for filming. I always like candles and lamps when we have guests over for the ambience. I also think it’s unfair on the last couple as by then any game play has come to light and could affect scores. Same with For in a Bed. I think they should all score after all the meals/stays.

Benjispruce5 · 25/07/2021 17:07

Four

nestletoulouse · 25/07/2021 17:07

Starter: Breaded brie with homemade chutney and a small salad.
Main: Coq au vin, dauphinoise potatoes and green beans cooked in garlic.
Desert: White and dark chocolate torte.
I love come dine with me and am feeling hungry now Grin

I once saw an episode of CDWM (or maybe Dinner Date, I think?) where the guy used the free taxi ride to go across the country to see his ex girlfriend.
GrandTheftWalrus · 25/07/2021 17:10

Was coming on to correct someone about the lady with the snake and Dawn Barry.

I'm sure there was another one where a contestant got extremely pissed and ended up on someone's couch with a bucket but I've never found it again.

Also if you go onto digital spy there are a few lengthy threads about cdwm and there are lots of contestants posting.

Benjispruce5 · 25/07/2021 17:11

My menu:
A goats cheese and red onion tartlet

Pan fried cod wrapped in prosciutto with roasted baby new potatoes and a green vegetable.

Dessert would be coconut panacotta with passion fruit sauce.

You might be thinking of the one where he had a trampoline towards the end and two of his diners were VERY unwell and one had a bucket on the sofa. He went on to win!
AlexCabot · 25/07/2021 17:16

I remember watching an episode when a woman cut up raw chicken and then proceeded to prepare her vegetables on the same chopping board with the same knife.

She didn't wash the board or knife Envynot envy!

I always wondered if the production team stepped in off camera as that's a pretty good way to give your guests food poisoning.

Mammyloveswine · 25/07/2021 17:16

Ooh @Benjispruce5 I'd enjoy that!

Lunabunatuna

Was she from the North East by any chance ?
If so I felt really sorry for her and thought she was treated appallingly.

@Ladybirdbookworm

No, not from there. Was this an old one?

I think I’ll have to binge watch a few when I’ve next got a huge pile of ironing.

Mammyloveswine · 25/07/2021 17:25

Just having home made scotch eggs and they are lovely so might have to change my starter

Katedanielshasakitty · 25/07/2021 17:25

Name changes for this, but my uncle was on it and won.

He absolutely loved it and all the attention he got, especially locally.

He died not long after and people from his group came to the funeral. He made good friends with them.

Its very bittersweet watching it now.

Congressdingo · 25/07/2021 17:27

@Crockof

My favourite was when the local restaurant delivered food through the window and the lady plated it and brazened it out. She won.

I don't know what I'd cook anymore, used to have it all planned but I'm bored of food.

I loved this one. Thought that if I went on I'd do the same. But I wouldnt have the chutzpah. So my menu depending on time of year Winter Homemade Tomato flatbread with hummus or pate. Lamb shanks in red wine and rosemary gravy ( done in slow cooker) vegan lamb option too.

Mint chocolate self saucing pudding, vegan anyway.
Drinks would be mint julep. And copious amounts of red wine.

Any other time of year
Melon and Parma ham or melon with cucumber, basil and drizzle of balsamic.
Potatoes hash with chorizo, leaving out chorizo for vegans.
A fruit tart or many different fruit tarts, with options of cream, custard , ice cream.
All homemade.
Drinks , anything cold.

GrandTheftWalrus · 25/07/2021 17:29

@JustJustWhy ah maybe, I thought she was pissed lol.

Also had a few filmed near where I stay, was rather amusing when one of the contestants used the beauty salon I walk past everyday. And another guy on the same one has a waiting list every year for his steak pies. He won funnily enough.

Mammyloveswine · 25/07/2021 17:29

@Katedanielshasakitty ahhh sending ❤️

PrettyBlunt · 25/07/2021 17:33

I'd use packet/jar sauces all day long.

I wouldn't spend all day faffing round in the kitchen for people I barely know. I'd be in it to win and lots of free drinks Grin.

PrettyBlunt · 25/07/2021 17:35

Also remember the man who won it but was actually a chef? So he had to come clean Grin.

Also, “Dear Lord, what a sad little life, Jane. You ruined my night, completely, so you could have the money, but I hope now you spend it on getting some lessons in grace and decorum because you have all the grace of a reversing dump truck without any tyres on.”

Benjispruce5 · 25/07/2021 17:36

I also hate it when guests criticise a simple menu. Good food doesn’t have to be difficult. If the ambience is good, the wine is flowing and you’re enjoying the company, I’d eat cheese on toast!

Alcemeg · 25/07/2021 17:40

@LunaBunaTuna

My cousin was on it and did not come across well. She can be a bit snobby at times but we just take the mick and she realises she’s being an arse. She got dog’s abuse on social media though and it was very upsetting for her.

The episode was highly edited and she was made out to be a total cow. On her night she broke down in tears off camera and the director made her go back out to the guests so that they could keep being mean to her. She really regrets having been on it now.

This...

A friend of mine went on it and said the behind-the-scenes was incredibly manipulative, like Big Brother.

They're not really interested in showing how well someone can cook, etc. They want conflict and like to portray individuals as caricatures. Participants are prompted to talk about specific things and the conversations are edited beyond recognition. They enjoy throwing someone with borderline (or overt) mental health issues into the mix, just for laughs.

It's a bit like the Roman Games -- cruel entertainment. Enter with caution.
