To ask if anyone has been on come dine with me?

Mammyloveswine · 25/07/2021 14:14

Isolating and binge watching couples come dine with me!

Would love to hear from anyone who has been on about what ifs really like behind the scenes!

Also.. if you were going to go on what would your menu be?!

I think I would keep it simple with:

Starter: sweet chilli king prawns and chorizo on a bed of rocket with home made bread.

Main: mozzarella and pesto stuffed chicken wrapped in Parma ham, with tendersteam broccoli and green beans and crushed roasted baby potatoes.

Desert: chocolate torte.

I'd hate to be a researcher. I was on another programme a few years ago and the phone call with the researcher the week before was cringeworthy.

They desperately tried to get something juicy out of me. It was very much "Do you do any unusual hobbies?" "Have you ever been on a wild holiday?" "Has anything really embarrassing ever happened to you?"

Unfortunately for them I'm 1) spectacularly boring and 2) had no intention of revealing anything that could potentially be discussed on national television so they didn't get a lot out of me.

I was still on the show but not really spoken to because there were more interesting people to talk to Grin

HeyDemonsItsYaGirl · 26/07/2021 10:52

TheSlayer How about chilli okra for you? Grin
@WomanStanleyWoman just seen your comment so sorry if anyone's replied already but I saw an advert for a plant based/veggie come dine with me in my area so it looks like they're doing that now which is good!
Yes, I spotted that on the Facebook page not long after I posted! Smile Weird coincidence!

WomanStanleyWoman · 26/07/2021 11:30

I’d love to see the unedited footage of a week. Everyone who comes across badly blames the editing, and I get that there must be a huge amount of material we don’t see - but they can’t create footage that isn’t there…

TheSlayer · 26/07/2021 11:44

I've always found ocra slimey, but that might have been the way it's cooked.
I'll give it a tryGrin

SnowWhitesRestingBitchFace · 26/07/2021 11:50

My DH has always wanted to go on CDWM so this is fascinating!

I do know someone whose workplace featured on Four in a Bed and that was an utter disaster that they are still paying for years later.

Ofallthebarsinalltheworld · 26/07/2021 12:52

I love this program especially the older ones. I watched ones in lockdown with a woman who they called the lizard. My jaw was on the floor watching every episode. That week was super nasty and not very nice to watch.

I have spent hours thinking about my menu and still unsure. I think maybe,

Starter - lentil soup with melba toast
Main course - steak pie
Dessert - selection of cheese and biscuits

Or
Melted brie with bread
Stir fry
Raspberry jelly with prosecco

This thread has made me so hungry lol.

A former boss of mine was on a number of years ago.
If anyone remembers the guy with the cheese in his pocket that was him

peppermintpat · 26/07/2021 17:40

A friend of a friend was on there. Upset everyone and someone refused to appear at the final bit because of her.

Jhaigh · 26/07/2021 17:55

Yes, I’ve been on couples come dine with me. Long hours, very edited and an interesting experience!

Lucyccfc68 · 26/07/2021 18:03

My neighbours were on it. They are loud and brash and known as the clampets, but they decided to hire a butler to serve the food. What a pair of dicks.

He does all the cooking in their house and thinks he is Gordon Ramsey and she just sits there and gets pissed. Suffice to say, they didn’t win.

EmpressSuiko · 26/07/2021 18:21

I love watching the show but there’s not enough veggie or vegan meals, I’d love to see them focus on food catered for those with allergies or specific dietary requirements!
As someone who can’t eat dairy or nuts and isn’t a big meat eater I’d love to see how creative someone could be with their meal ideas, everything I eat is so boring!

SnoopyLights · 26/07/2021 18:26

I think one of the very earliest episodes must have been the woman who made raspberry coulis by pouring hot water onto jam, and she had the little dog who kept farting under the table.

I seem to remember the guests weren't loving her night, but they were all fairly normal people and houses in that episode as far as I remember.

Romney981 · 26/07/2021 18:30

I would be the annoying vegan who wouldn't cook meat for anyone. I'd probably do Indian or Thai food, get everyone drunk so they didn't miss the meat. What entertainment would anyone do though? - I would have no idea.

TheSlayer · 26/07/2021 18:37

I don't get why anyone would want a veggie to cook them meat.
As I haven't touched meat since childhood it'd be a guaranteed way to get food poisoning. I didn't even know the chicken/veg board thing beyond a vague, 'I think that might be bad' feeling.

I have a pole as pre baby I did pole fitness so if I were feeling mean I'd make people do it for the entertainment.

But in reality I'd just get them pissed instead haha!

Jakadaal · 26/07/2021 18:44

I spotted an ex boyfriend on it once and realised what a near miss I had had! He didn't win but was clearly desperate to- it was all about cringe Wink

ZZGirl · 26/07/2021 18:51

I've read this thread with a lot of thought and entertainment! I'd never go on CDWM myself but I do love watching it! In fact I have the couples version on right now!

My menu changes all the time, I really struggle with starter thoughts, right now I'd go:
Starter - Maybe like a little mix and match, mini kebabs, garlic bread, stuffed mushrooms, that kind of thing.
Main - Chicken Katsu Curry (It's one of my strongest dishes) or sausage, potato and sourdough bake.
Dessert - Peach crumble or chocolate brownie, homemade ice cream or custard.

starfishmummy · 26/07/2021 19:10

Used to love it when it started and it was much more about the cooking rather than rooting through peoples drawers and finding something embarassing or putting on some excruciating entertainment.

There were still people who couldn't cook properly and one contestant who, when she went into the kitchen to cook, was actually having dishes from the local restaurant passed through the window to her!

WomanStanleyWoman · 26/07/2021 19:26

I’m SO glad someone else has said this! I’ve heard a worrying number of people complaining about how vegetarians are somehow ‘selfish’ or ‘hypocritical’ to refuse to cook meat when they expect meat-eaters to cook vegetables for them 🙄 I always think, quite apart from the ethical issues, why would you want someone who has no idea how to cook meat to practise on you?!

LapinR0se · 26/07/2021 19:27

Ooooh I have thought about this many times. I mean it might be fun to do a themed evening?
Margaritas
Fancy nachos
Fajitas
Churros

Or

Gin & tonics
Homemade samosas
3 kinds of curry and all the sides
Kulfi

Or

Kir royales
Baked Camembert with dippy things
Côte de bœuf and frites with bearnaise sauce
Tarte tatin and vanilla ice cream

KatherineJaneway · 26/07/2021 19:30

Carpaccio of Beef with anchovy dressing, sunblush tomatoes and rocket

Couldn't be doing with raw meat.

waddlemyway · 26/07/2021 19:53

Ooooohhhh no haven’t been on but did do a lot of Come Dine style entertaining with friends over the years, based on the concept of the tv show, i.e. one person or one couple hosted a three-course meal with nibbles before and all the guests brought a bottle of wine (or two). It wasn’t always the same group of friends but more or less. It was awesome. We did one round per year, the first few years were quite practiced/standard fare, often with a theme. Some years we actually gave scores but I never liked that and normally we were to pished by the end to always remember!! 😂 The couples round took it up a notch and then the last year we did got quite serious. All friends in this group have become really good cooks, one even changed career into the food and wine industry. It grew to be an awful lot of work to host and it started getting tricky to find that many evenings that everyone could do. Plus now we have kids I wouldn’t dream of spending that much of a weekend in the kitchen. But it was so worth it then.
One friend just said the other day she had invited her two bosses and their partners for a dinner party recently and she was nervous but she knew she could pull it off because of our Come Dine group.
Can totally recommend if you have a group of friends you think would enjoy hosting and dining.

MintyCedric · 26/07/2021 20:54

Judging by some of the comments I think I need to revise my menu!
