To ask if anyone has been on come dine with me?

Isolating and binge watching couples come dine with me!

Would love to hear from anyone who has been on about what ifs really like behind the scenes!

Also.. if you were going to go on what would your menu be?!

I think I would keep it simple with:

Starter: sweet chilli king prawns and chorizo on a bed of rocket with home made bread.

Main: mozzarella and pesto stuffed chicken wrapped in Parma ham, with tendersteam broccoli and green beans and crushed roasted baby potatoes.

Desert: chocolate torte.

Ooh,
My menu would be:

Starter: Stuffed mushrooms, garlic mayonnaise and a side salad.

Main: A carbonara with chicken, a lasagne, and tomato and marscapone pasta, served alongside garlic bread and caprese salad.

Dessert: trio of desserts, tiramisu, Italian macarons and gelato.

With lots of wine, and fresh coffee to finish.

I like it when a contestant goes all tv-presenting in their kitchen like they're auditioning for having their own cookery show.

And when the woman on the couples' version criticises every move her partner makes because he's clearly never helped in the kitchen EVER in his life.

And who could forget, "Jane, take your money and get off my property"...

SirenSays · 25/07/2021 17:45

The guy who bought my old house was on it. He said that his menu was good but that he should have served straight jackets because everyone on it was bloody mental 😬

Qwerty789 · 25/07/2021 17:49

@Benjispruce5

I also hate it when guests criticise a simple menu. Good food doesn’t have to be difficult. If the ambience is good, the wine is flowing and you’re enjoying the company, I’d eat cheese on toast!
No..but it does have to be good. And cheese on toast on a dinner party tv show would be ridiculous.
FuckingFabulous · 25/07/2021 17:50

A former friend of mine has. He was a pretentious arse on it, acting like the people he was cooking for would never have tried dishes like he was preparing, then he fucked up the dessert and served them an absolutely disgusting curdled mixture

GrandTheftWalrus · 25/07/2021 17:50

I'd love someone to go on it and cook something like chicken nuggets, chips and beans

JudgeJ · 25/07/2021 17:52

My late OH was obsessed with this, when I've seen a bit of it I've been amused at how many people who are professing a good knowledge of food yet don't know some basic terms. They also expect a 'restaurant standard' meal not realising the Heston Blumenthal doesn't cook the meal and eat at the table too, he also has an army of gofers to do the dirty work.

SnoopyLights · 25/07/2021 17:52

Was there not one person who was making something in a glass bowl, and it broke, but they served the contents anyway?

I always wondered if the crew stepped in and said you can't serve broken glass. It reminds me of that episode of Friday Night Dinner, where Martin broke glass into every course.

Benjispruce5 · 25/07/2021 17:53

@Qwerty789 you get my drift though. What is dinner party food? These are amateurs. A good night is dependent on so many things, the food being just one. The food snobs often so badly because their food might be good but they’re so up their own backsides that they are poor hosts.

PiggyPlumPie · 25/07/2021 17:53

I vaguely know a couple who were on it and won. The couple's all seemed to get on well.

The guy told me that he hid bottles of wine under the table and kept everyone well topped-up. Think it confused the camera crew as he was really sneaky about it!

JudgeJ · 25/07/2021 17:53

I recall right back at the start when a woman had the local restaurant deliver the food through the kitchen window, one course after the other! In another one there was a snake crawling round the table!
Benjispruce5 · 25/07/2021 17:54

Do not so

Bridezillamaybe · 25/07/2021 17:55

@ShitPoetryClub

Tiny beetroot tarts with watermelon, feta and mint salad.

Moussaka with homemade garlic and thyme foccacia bread and a tomato and basil salad or homegrown runner or broad beans.

Lemon posset with raspberries and shortbread.

Home made blackcurrant vodka.

All veg (except for the watermelon and garlic) would be grown organically in my garden if it was filmed now.

For entertainment I'd like to send them foraging but that's where I'd lose. So probably casino night instead.

Winner for me
MumofSpud · 25/07/2021 18:06

It always makes me Hmm when they

  1. do a themed dinner / evening from a particular country as they love it but have never been (even if it's a European country that is easy to get to - pre Covid anyway !)
  2. go on about 'fine dining' then serve up something 'normal'
  3. when they don't make their own bread - they always get marked down for that
Bridezillamaybe · 25/07/2021 18:10

@Katedanielshasakitty

Name changes for this, but my uncle was on it and won.

He absolutely loved it and all the attention he got, especially locally.

He died not long after and people from his group came to the funeral. He made good friends with them.

Its very bittersweet watching it now.

Was your uncle a gorgeous gay man who died of cancer? He was talking on camera at the end about it being one of the best weeks of his life and then the credits rolled and said he died shortly afterwards.

If so I was so moved by him / that week of programmes. I can't think about it (even now) without welling up.

miltonj · 25/07/2021 18:16

Does anyone remember the guy who stuffed peppers with baked beans and Gorgonzola? Best ever episode.

GrandTheftWalrus · 25/07/2021 18:18

@JudgeJ there was also a woman who cooked everything from scratch but someone didn't believe her, even going to check her bins so he marked her down. I really hope he saw it when it was on and realised he was a dick. But probably not.

Katedanielshasakitty · 25/07/2021 18:19

@Bridezillamaybe no that wasnt him.

My uncle came across as a bit of a twat to be honest. Grin you would either of loved him or hated him.

He was the type to constantly make joke and wind people up. He meant no harm but was annoying. He had a very poor upbringing and though playing the clown would make people like him. He was a classic 'uncle knobhead' but adored by us all.

He didn't have cancer, he died quite suddenly at the end of the year.

KarmaViolet · 25/07/2021 18:21

I love the idea of CDWM but suspect we would be edited to make us look batshit (we're vegan). I mean, I say 'edited,' but.... Grin

I also suspect we'd be paired with someone who moans about protein and stirs his tea with bacon just in case he dies of vegetarianism between meals and it wouldn't be fun. So not applying but I do enjoy planning my imaginary menus.

Summer:

  • Cucumber and fennel salad with dill
  • Whole spiced roast cauliflower with tahini yoghurt sauce, flaked almonds and pomegranate seeds, served with giant couscous and roast veg skewers
  • Roast peaches, fresh figs, vegan cheeseboard from the super-posh vegan cheesemonger (and I might make one too)

Winter:

  • aubergine-stuffed mushroom
  • either tofish, chips and mushy peas, or chickpea and apricot tagine with couscous
  • baked pears and cheeseboard as above

I can't speak for everyone, but my uncles showed him exactly how he is.

An idiot with a big heart and crap jokes Grin

Katefoster · 25/07/2021 18:34

I would love to go on come dine with me. My friends American living in the UK and she went on it and they made her go OTT on the american angle. I think I'd stay away from fish because there's always reallt fussy eaters which reallt winds me up but for my main I'd do Ostrich steak and truffle and Parmesan chips with tenderstem broccoli and a lemon or strawberry cheesecake for dessert. I'm stuck on my starter tho!

AnimalCrossingNewHorizons · 25/07/2021 18:35

I have sooo many questions! Smile

@TheRealMrsGrissom Something about his face made me think of Michael McIntyre Confused

@Petrochemical What sort of food did he make?

@Bollindger How did your friend get away with the secret buffet? Grin It’s nice that they all still get together and meet up once a year.

TheSlayer · 25/07/2021 18:37

Karma, I wouldn't go on for exactly the same reason.
But I think I'd thoroughly enjoy your menu 😉

Katefoster · 25/07/2021 18:37

@WomanStanleyWoman just seen your comment so sorry if anyone's replied already but I saw an advert for a plant based/veggie come dine with me in my area so it looks like they're doing that now which is good!

AnimalCrossingNewHorizons · 25/07/2021 18:39

@Katefoster I’m assuming it’s all down to how it’s edited?

@KarmaViolet Do you have recipes? It all sounds amazing!

@SirenSays Did you get curious and watch the episode he was on? If so, was it exactly how he said it was?
