Is it race, religion, status or lifestyle? In my experience it’s how one parents. What’s your experience?

Class/social status (made up of so-many sub-components). Definitely.

And it’s the completely (purposely) overlooked factor in all equality legislation and social policy-making.

The problem with class is that unlike race or nationality or age, it can be hard to determine. Also as seen above. Luckily companies are doing something about addressing economical status in equality forms, but overal, even though it has the biggest impact iirc, it would be impossible to pinpoint. How do you prove you are some kind of wc instead of some kind of mc?
DammedifIdo · 28/07/2021 08:43

Class as it pervades everything
Then aggression. If I'm about to interact with someone I will make a judgement on this and it affects both sexes, all races and classes

TheVolturi · 28/07/2021 08:58

Appearance. Accent.

5128gap · 28/07/2021 09:11

Appearance. Apart from very rare exceptions we all judge this. Not necessarily negativity, just drawing some conclusions based on the person's presentation. Other things like class, job, accent, parenting styles are only judged by the people to whom such things are important.

knackeredcat · 28/07/2021 09:13

Weight, most definitely, and seemingly especially if you're apple shaped and/or carry it on your face and neck. Sad

Appearance in general. Clothing, grooming, etc.

Class or perceived class. As I'm not English people I work with, etc. aren't sure what "boxes" to put me in.

If you come across as a bit "different" - i.e. shy, quiet, introverted, neurodivergent, etc. or any combination. Anyone who isn't a talker, in groups/cliques, etc. is judged horrendously. (Speaking from bitter lifelong experiences.) Think about whenever there's been a crime, etc. and the very first thing that is honed in on is when the perpetrator is described as a loner, odd or eccentric. Hmm

MrsMillhouse · 28/07/2021 13:49

@knackeredcat oh God, yip. Remember a young woman got murdered and the papers accused her slightly eccentric landlord of it. No evidence. Poor guy

I don’t really get the class thing, as I think as a society there are too many overlaps with criteria of how anyone would define class, but totally agree with the if you come across as ‘a bit different’.

I find it all sad and makes we really wish a I could withdraw from society (I can to an extent I guess)

@pleasedonttextmyman

Then they look at the type of car you drive to see if you're wealthy enough to associate with them.

only if you mean the aspirational upper working-class or lower middle-class

no one else gives a shit

This!!!!
PolkadotSkies · 30/07/2021 23:37

@lllllllllll

Why leave your parents with an empty room and pay somebody else's mortgage?

@CatsArePeople not all parents want their adult kids living at home indefinitely.

It's also called "becoming an independent adult".
Manycupsoftea · 30/07/2021 23:55

In UK it is race and socio-economic status

Appearances, parenting, manners, political leaning etc are often linked to class, perhaps subconsciously

underneaththeash · 31/07/2021 00:05

Me =- tattoos and weight. Both are signs that people have poor judgement.

They are though.

In your opinion.

I think you're massively wrong. But there we go.

underneaththeash · 31/07/2021 00:15

Tattoos = the skin that you're putting the picture on will change and get more wrinkly and the colour of the tattoo will fade, but not enough to make it not look like a tattoo/bruise.

Weight = some people put on weight more easily than others - including me! Just do not eat so much crap and exercise more. If you put on weight easily DO NOT EAT CRAP.....

LST · 31/07/2021 00:17

Tattoos. Personal choice..who gives a shit what they're going to look like when everything else is wrinkled

Weight. Disability exists. I can't exercise. So I hardly eat because I know twats like you will judge me for my weight.

PolkadotSkies · 31/07/2021 00:36

Yes, far more judgement here of poor behaviour, poor manners. Poor morals. Low intelligence or not being able/ willing to hold an intellectual conversation. Lack of a senseof humour.

Witchcraftandhokum · 31/07/2021 02:47

For me it's not how someone parents, but IF someone parents. But I say that as a childless MN user!

PolkadotSkies · 31/07/2021 05:16

@pleasedonttextmyman by that I mean who even cares about someone else's car, or notices it? I love cars, but unless someone turned up in a classic to do a school run I wouldn'r notice. I homestly could not tell you what mind of car mosr of my friends drive. My love of cars is for me, no expectation that other people will have the same interest. Prople can be so weird🤨😆☺️

avamiah · 31/07/2021 05:33

I would say without a doubt “appearance “ and number one being your size.
It’s sad to say but unless your already a very wealthy person and famous then you will get judged about your weight and how you look.

Ewanispurple · 31/07/2021 05:55

Weight (sadly)

Privilege101 · 31/07/2021 06:35

If you live in London and other big cities

Appearance
Postcode
Job
Car
School you send your kids

As soon as you step outside to predominantly “Caucasian” areas

Privilege101 · 31/07/2021 06:35

Sorry I should say not ethnically diverse areas

It’s race every time, every day

Zombielandand · 31/07/2021 07:25

I would say that many people like to compare where you are on the timeline of life vs societal norms and expectations. For example, judging people for their living arrangements, relationship status, financial status etc against their age.
