Is it race, religion, status or lifestyle? In my experience it’s how one parents. What’s your experience?

Same here @EspressoDoubleShot

Fair enough if you are blind but otherwise it is natural to judge appearance first before you have any information about someone's character, lifestyle or morals

Tootsey11 · 24/07/2021 19:45

How sad is this world when most people judge others on how look.

AddsVsGeorgs · 24/07/2021 19:47

fraddu · 24/07/2021 19:48

Matching accessories eg bag and shoes and scarf.

I don't think this has been a positive for decades 😆

Short clean nails preferably with gel polish that matches a colour in the outfit.

I've worked in fashion for a long time & I don't think I've ever noticed what type of polish someone uses.

No tattoos or piercings

Again completely outdated

Everyone does. Some admit it, some lie to themselves about it🤷🏻 There is no way someone unconsciousness doesn't "jidge" by how other person looks
EspressoDoubleShot · 24/07/2021 19:48

It’s not necessarily sad. To make sense of life and the myriad of information we process we use stereotypes and experience to make judgements. When first meeting someone we don’t have time to take and review a personal and social history. So, we use shortcuts like clothing, demeanour, accent, appearance to make a judgement

Are you suggesting that you don’t judge appearance, that you are neutral and impervious to appearance? I simply don’t believe that. We all judge we all have foibles inc you. We all make snap and immediate judgements both consciously and unconsciously

I agree that it's a split second decision made up of a number of things including appearance but think appearance wise it's more of do they look clean & hygienic rather than how many ear piercings do they have or how in proportion their nose is to their lips.

Appearance. You might think you don't, but we all do subconsciously have preconceived ideas about people depending on how they look. That doesn't mean you treat people differently because of it.
Also, age. As a woman approaching 30 that still passes for 18 (with kids) I can't tell you how little respect I'm given from people until they find out my real age then immediately change how they act with me.

redcarbluecar · 24/07/2021 20:04

The things that are most immediately visible like weight, dress, other aspects of appearance.

stickygotstuck · 24/07/2021 20:08

Appearance. Inasmuch as it can indicate what 'class' you are and how much money you have.

Depressingly it’s only really mothers who are judged about how they parent. In my experience fathers get gushing praise for anything they do to parent their own children.
PilatesPeach · 24/07/2021 20:09

weight and race

Lndnmummy · 24/07/2021 20:10

There has been research after research done on this. It’s race first and foremost then extreme obesity.

StevieNix · 24/07/2021 20:12

Weight (especially as a woman)
I don’t judge based on weight but having been extremely obese and now only just above a normal bmi I can promise you that others do judge based on weight

Tootsey11 · 24/07/2021 20:17

No, I don't judge on appearance. Why? Because I have spent my entire life being judged by others on mine. And it made me feel shit for a long time. Now, I don't give a fuck what others think.

I developed a facial condition aged 30. Before that I looked normal, now I look different, not ugly, just different. But to see the way people react to me, some don't, most cant hide it. Why, I'm no different to anyone else.
I can't wear make up because of it, I've had people say to me, why don't you make an effort. Fuck you, you have no idea what I go through every day.

I wear joggers every day, not because I can't be arsed, it's because I'm in pain and can't wear close fitting clothing. I see the way I'm being judged for it. My card was declined in a shop, and the assistant said 'are you sure you have money in your account, looking me up and down'. I showed her my balance, that shut her up. The manager found a fault with the machine, not my card.

Me, I judge others on their actions, how they treat other people and the world around them.

Appearance, weight, accent and all that nonsense mean nothing to me.

Tresal · 24/07/2021 20:35

I think it is class. It crosses all other boundaries such as race, nationality, sex and age. It is often subtle and hidden which makes it so dangerous.

EspressoDoubleShot · 24/07/2021 20:41

Thanks for taking time to elaborate @Tootsey11. I am sorry you’ve experienced discrimination and prejudice

I genuinely don’t think anyone is impervious to making judgements based on appearance,clothing.accent. We make judgements consciously and unconsciously. It is not necessarily negative. Thinking I like Irish accents, they’re lilting is a judgement just not a negative one.

Call centres and banks located to Scotland as there was research that customers like and feel comfortable with a Scottish accent - a favourable judgement

Accent - if you have a foreign accent like me how do you decide what class you think I should belong to? This attitude is non-existent in the country I am from.

BathshebaKnickerStickers · 24/07/2021 21:11

Weight.

Appearance yes, but definitely weight over appearance. It’s a million times easier to be plain and thin than fat and pretty

Rhinothunder · 24/07/2021 21:13

Obesity.

Kljnmw3459 · 24/07/2021 21:16

Poverty. The more money you have the more you can get away with and vice versa.

Thelnebriati · 24/07/2021 21:18

Class barriers are impossible to cross. I don't think people always do it consciously, but they stick together by class and background more than anything else.
