To think people saying "stop moaning about the weather" need to fuck off?

I'm heavily pregnant, pale, ginger and really suffering. I'm sure there are people struggling more than I am though. I'm in London where it's expected to reach 32(?) today.

Not everybody can cope well with this heat and humidity. The met office has issued extreme weather warnings yet some people think we're supposed to be grateful for it.

AIBU to think those people need to fuck off?

@Veros
I was pregnant throughout a very hot summer. One thing I found that helped in the house both at night and during the day was wearing t shirts or nighties soaked in cold water. Gives respite for a while anyway.

Drivingmeupthewall · 21/07/2021 14:00

@NeedingAGoodNap

32 isn’t really that hot. I guess people don’t want to hear constant complaining? If you keep going on about it maybe they are just annoyed!
It bloody well is in a country that isn’t used to it and so isn’t geared up for it with air conditioning and fans in residential buildings. Don’t be such an arse to a pregnant woman who’s miserable in the heat @NeedingAGoodNap
pleasedonttextmyman · 21/07/2021 14:01

I am south east london, and I find my kids wrapped up in their duvet every morning because they get chilly at some point in the night. Grin

We do have windows opened, obviously.

So no, I don't find the summer weather that hot.

NeonDreams · 21/07/2021 14:01

32 degrees c is very comfortable, it's not hot at all, it can get to 37 or 39 where I am. It's currently winter here, and has been getting down to 19 during the day and -2 overnight. We've got the heaters on and bed socks. It's soooo fucking cold not even the heating is keeping us warm.

-2 isn't cold at all Wink
NeonDreams · 21/07/2021 14:03

-2 is a seventh circle of the antarctic. If that isn't cold, then I don't know what is. - anything is freezing level.

Whilst the warmer than average temperature is not good for some people and especially given the humidity and poor air quality, I do wish we would stop using terms such as 'extreme heat'. It may get up to 32C here, and people should be able to plan for it, but it is not the 47C in Las Vegas last week or in western Canada.

This week's temperatures occur almost every year. The lack of much cooler nights is in any case the real issue, if the research conducted into excess summer deaths in central Europe is a guide.

coogee · 21/07/2021 14:08

32 is objectively hot.

It's pretty clear from the responses to this thread that 32 is definitely subjectively hot.

They've got ac in Vegas though, contributing nicely to the climate crisis. Vegas has always been hot.

It's bloody hot here, and I grew up in the ME. But different when you don't have access to a pool, beach or ac and have to get in the ibs to go to work.

Respect is needed from both sides we are all different they shouldn't knock us for hating and we shouldn't knock them for liking it.

Well, 32 degrees isn't cold is it

@VladmirsPoutine

How did such an innocuous thread descend into this Confused
Because @CrouchEndTiger12 appeared, he/she seems to have that effect on quite a few threads I've noticed
pleasedonttextmyman · 21/07/2021 14:14

in fairness, no one is asking you to stand in the full sun at midday at Heathrow airport either.

DdraigGoch · 21/07/2021 14:16

@VladmirsPoutine

I do think finding things to complain about is a distinctly British characteristic. If it were mid January, cold winter nights etc someone somewhere would still be moaning. If the local Tesco didn't have anymore Brie in stock someone will complain.

That said, I know it can't be easy for you as you're pregnant which isn't much fun even in the best of times!

Last winter I had no heating downstairs so my house was genuinely bitterly cold. This year I have installed a wood burner. So I am looking forward for those cold, stormy nights. Just as long as I'm not cycling to/from work in it.

I agree, sometimes it's best to just agree to differ. I will be glad when this hot spell subsides though, I've really struggled with sleeping at night.
coogee · 21/07/2021 14:19

Well, 32 degrees isn't cold is it

If my coffee was 32 degrees, it would be cold.

DdraigGoch · 21/07/2021 14:24

@pinkcircustop

I think you just need to stop moaning about the weather to be honest.

Moaning won’t change anything and it’ll just keep you miserable.

Rubbish, moaning is such good fun.
AuntMargo · 21/07/2021 14:26

@coogee

It is for England if you don't have air con or a pool...

I have neither. To me, it’s warm, not hot. When it starts getting towards 40, then it’s hot.

silly !!
EastWestWhosBest · 21/07/2021 14:26

I don’t like it so hot. It annoys me and I can’t sleep.
However moaning and complaining won’t make it any cooler and will only serve to make me grumpy. So what is the point in moaning.

DH however can’t seem to help himself. It’s been non stop bitching and pissing since the thermometer went over 20. What good so saying ‘I don’t like this’ and ‘it’s too hot’ do? It’s not like anyone can change it or that everyone else is lovely a cool.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 21/07/2021 14:27

It’s such a divisive subject people are going to wind others up if they profess a strong opinion either way.

Those who love it and say it’s glorious will never see eye-to-eye with the “I’m meeeeeelting” brigade.

Best we don’t have those debates I reckon (although in this country, the “it’s glorious” side don’t get their way very often!)

EastWestWhosBest · 21/07/2021 14:28

@coogee

If my coffee was 32 degrees, it would be cold.

And if my Aunty had balls she’d be my uncle.
GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 21/07/2021 14:28

BUT I do think you get a special pass OP for being pregnant which makes heat more uncomfortable.

coogee · 21/07/2021 14:30

And if my Aunty had balls she’d be my uncle.

These days even that would be subjective.

DdraigGoch · 21/07/2021 14:32

@CrouchEndTiger12

You're angry because people like weather you don't. Jesus christ.
No, she's annoyed because people are telling her that she can't complain about the weather. Complaining about the weather should be enshrined in the British Bill of Rights, it's such an important entitlement.
